I am thinking of buying parts to make my own DVR, and I had a couple of questions. The GV1480 card - Does it come with any software other than the drivers? Will I need the DVR software also? Can I put two cards in a system for 32 cameras? Thanks
-
Is there a way? Tech support talks about having two different listen ports, but that means you have to change the .dat file each time you want to change which DVR you're connected to. Does anyone (read: Rory) know of a better solution? Thanks
-
Ok, then how are they accessed remotely? the internal IP can't be accessed from the internet

Storesafe Pro II, both of them. Did you have to forward different ports to them? How does the router know which DVR to send the incoming connection to? What router did you use?

Take static Images and send to external system

Does this need to happen at a certain time, or just ten images over an x day period? Microsoft has a Power Toy called Timershot that takes a picture from an ordinary webcam every so many hours, minutes, seconds, or days from whatever webcam is plugged into that computer. There might be some solution on that regard that might suit your needs. Most of the DVR capture cards I know of require their software to be of any use. Just a thought -
Wavereader+Wavebrowser not working for StoreSafe Pro II

Do you have any firewall software on your computer? Ran into a problem with an Nvidia firewall on a computer. It would connect for a few seconds, sometimes even pull up a camera or two, then the connection would drop. Just a thought. Another thought: Are any of the cameras set to covert in the DVR? Does your user in wavereader have permission to view covert cameras -
I'm wanting to pitch a system for a local company. They have a lot of small building spread out throughout the county, all network accessable. The might need one camera (MAYBE two) per location. I thought it would be lest costly overall to put IP cameras in each building, with a centralized recorder. I'm thinking of close to 100 remote sights at least. Is there any recommendations for a solution like that? I'd rather avoid a single DVR in each building (they are unmanned) just to avoid the extra cost (and potential service nightmare) or all those DVR's. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. I am also having a hard time finding the equipment. Of all the makes I've seen (after a search on the internet of our normal vendors), I've only seen recorders that support 32 channels of anything, and those are only saying 4 IP cameras. Any recommendations?

For security we've always used an Altronix 6062 timer relay module. This one can't stop 240, but could be used to activate a relay that can. There may be others, but that's the one we have used in the past Installation Instructions shows wiring, settings, and lists all specs

Excellent video.... that's my congressman, BTW

The video is just a composite signal, so any switch should work. You may have to get an adapter for the cable, but those are at Radio Shack. I found this, which might work (you won't need the audio, but still)

Is there a way that anyone knows to convert the .20d or .60d files from GE's Wavereader into a standalone video file like .avi or the like? GE doesn't have anything, so I was wondering if there was a way. Thanks

Can only connect to DVR from LAN and not WAN
Sir Flannel replied to qasim's topic in Computers/Networking
I had a similar problem recently. I couldn't browse to my external ip address from my ip address. Not sure if it's an ISP (that happened on DSL, I just did my web server on cable and it works fine) or a router issue (2wire router). But, if you can access it from a remote sight going through the ip, but not locally going through the outside ip...? -
Cause that's not an actual image file name? That one works for me try getting the actual url of the actual picture?

I've used those units before, and I've always had trouble when I left it at the default port 60000. I change it to 6000 it works fine. just a thought -

Just can't seem to find....

I'm looking for one of those little devices that monitors the IP traffic (usually connected to an IP camera), and cycles power to whatever it's plugged into when the traffic stops (ie the devices locks up) I just can't seem to find any reference to it. I know they exist, I've seen them referenced before, but I am just not typing the exact combination of words into the search engines to spit out what I'm after. Please, help an old man out kiddies! -
Small world... one of those idiots is from my area. (Not a Big Brother fan BTW)

PM me if you want the link to the pdf file or I can email it to you but I cannot direct link on these forums yet. That's one, but I apologize as I've never used one of these devices before so I cannot recommend any specific types or models. Tho this unit (after reading) will in fact restart ANY IP device connected to it if the device stops sending/receiving network packets to the installed device. Good luck tho, Thanks, John That will work! I have had to reset a router twice a couple of times already. That would save a service call. -
Go to the command promt in your computer, and ping your smtp server. It should resolve it to the IP address for you.

I have a client who has a GV-650 system. The 4 portcard is in a dell computer, and I gather all is working well. He has 4 cameras already, and would like to add more. Will the software support another card as is, or would I need to upgrade the software? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
