Hi. 9 times out of 10 you cant just connect a siren to the output. i know you see it in pictures of dvrs. but you dont have power at the alarm output. so you will have to buy or make something for that. Depends on the unit, if it's a 2 wire powered or a 4 wire powered/triggered. I plan to make a relay all the same for any 2wire, my dvr has open or closed alarm, not powered, which i prefer..... Got cant decide/find the right unit -

Have to remember homes are built differently all over. Ive come across homes with brick all the way to the roof, making access to the eaves with a snake next to impossible. Then there is all the AC duct which stops you in your path, and in smaller attics the fiberglass insulation alone will prevent any access there in person or with a snake. In addition there are the add ons where they blocked off an entire section of the house from another. Fair enough, but "most" homes to code have least 2 vents per side yes? I understand the insulation blocking access, we have r72, its near 3' tall. But we also have vents ever other truss crossing. Not sure how to go about a home that would have brick w/ no vents, never seen a build like that.... -

Note, if not for our system covering 3 properties & 9 structures together & spans up to near 400' wire runs, I would have never gone away from the main structure! A lot more work, plus depending where you are, the local codes for such can be a real #^#. -

Ok, here's some pics of our conduit pole make-ups w/ pro looking lockable junction boxes. Keep in mind it's cold up here, to cold to paint so for a few months that are primer only. *** Very pro, but when 30 outside & the sun hits, the 3" conduit will curve up to 1.5" at the top of 12'. note only when the sun warms one side & I'm the only one that's seen it tnk God. Suggest maybe 4" conduit as 3" is tough, but 4" is more so..... As to the eaves! Just remember that there is no reason to have to go face down in the insulation! whenever working in eves, somewhere, sometimes sadly only 2, vents will cross the wall plate for attic intake venting.... Always run your wires from the ends of the eves to these vents & use a stick of 1/2" conduit to guide all the wires there up into the center of attic where you can reach them..... doing this, the vents are normally 24" wide above the wall allowing for 1/2 conduit to go in at up to 35degree angle.... so the right methods make no attic to bad.... As for wiring... If leaving the home to far, consider taking 120v outside w/ it. I used 14/2burial alongside the conduit. Makes for nice options down the road as a powered gate & you dont have to run cords out for the shop-vac when sucking the pull rope "kit string" through... -
Two Cameras with using baluns on cat5e
PaulsonLaw replied to daniel11's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
What he should expect tom? I'm a noob here compared to some of you, but if that is the best picture he can get w/ that camera, the company would go belly up overnight!? 199$!!!! WOW *** If the cams is designed for 82' w/ the IR.... is whatever on the cam way to close? Have you tried the same cam on something at 85'? Just thinking.... -
Cooked a linksys router! Was 3yrs old anyways.. Upgrade?
PaulsonLaw posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
What is the best, or better routers for streaming w a DVR? Our was old already & had 12 things running almost all day, then the DVR must have overkilled & in the trash it went.... In the mean time I picked up a new linksys 2500 & just got done connecting all the crap to it... D S R - 5 0 0 N Wi re l e s s S er v i ce s R o u te r is what a local network company recommended for it, as I'll be putting a 2nd dvr system at the other gateway router.... They also said as I have to forwards ports, I need a "SonicWall", an inline firewall device to protect the DVR's.... SO! & thanks for reading this... 1. What router do you point to for this application? 2. Can a worm, malware, virus corrupt your DVR?!?!?! -

Great info Soundy & SectorSecurity, conflicting but good info lol... As for an update, I went to use the old power adapter off the cooked router & whenever a small load was applied, poof.... So yes, the power adapter may have caused the crash.... I'm glad I had to upgrade, the linksys e2500 has a noted change from the old linksys! -

Lighting advice for analog camc, outside? CFL's dont show??
PaulsonLaw posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
So, as the IR only does so much, I put a dusk to dawn on the back of the garage.... Used 2 14w CFL... Then last night, you could see the light, and about 10' around the light & that was it???? Even thought to the human eye it was rather bright! I am changing to a motion flood & using 2 100w floods tonight to try it out..... Any advice? Yes I checked into the IR illuminaters but rather costly.... -
Can you advise a balun? Baluns, Connectors or the Cold
PaulsonLaw replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I dont think that is the case. Have you inserted that flash drive into the laptop to see what the video looks like. If it looks good, then what is happening is you are recording on your main stream but you are probably viewing on your sub-stream over the network which is a lesser video quality than your main stream. Perhaps your main stream is at D1 and your substream is at CIF. ...and/or higher compression. Will look into that today.... -

Ok, heres a pic of what I have installed on up to 385' runs. Someone told me these were connectors, not baluns?>?>?>? So what's the deal? Is this why my cams are a lil blurred at times, or could that be the cold? Topic open! http://www.amazon.com/Pairs-Passive-Video-Power-Transceiver/dp/B005PJ5WJK/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1326983712&sr=8-10 -
Can you advise a balun? Baluns, Connectors or the Cold
PaulsonLaw replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Nah, all is ok w/ the feed in, like I posted the pic is crystal when viewed on a macbook screen from a flash drive... This proves my issue w/ the lines on the tv is the tv or cables going to it... This proves my HP netbook is crap for streaming video.... -

PaulsonLaw replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Ok, I just went up to the shop & about broke my hand to cut one of these connecters up & here's a pic, but after many cuts, there are simply wires going end to end. SO yes they are connecters, but in some cases they do work.... -
Can you advise a balun? Baluns, Connectors or the Cold
PaulsonLaw replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
A reply for the last 3 relies.... Yes, it is shielded, as stated.... but below are the pics of specs of the TC-L2 wire.... As to the baluns, I have eliminated this problem! These " adapters" are fine. I found this out by downloading all 8 cams so far onto a flash & playing them on my mac. *** SO, with whatever set-up of wire & connecters, it is crystal.**** Thank you for the thread link!!! I went back to the thread & thought it was deleted! That's why I was asking for a link, thought the OP thought that thread got jacked by all of us & cleared it... I was looking in the wrong area.... Thank you for the offer to try a pair! But this is not the problem anymore, have ruled it out via the flash drive... So, The TV I'm using is crap for watching on & I need a better PC to watch on as well.... *** I am not an installer! Well, not for hire anyway... I have only installed another Zmodo at a local Kwik-Stop for the owner, needed the side work. Now, with the city coming out to rob the hill blind, I am just trying to take action.... Grounding..... I already grounded the cat5 & DVR this afternoon... Will this be a problem? The 120v is 14/2UG & runs alongside the conduit running the cat5, that with the very low load causes no problems..... -

These are cameras from a zmodo kit. They are basically sony bullet ir indoor/outdoor analog for a dvr. * I replaced the dusk till dawn w/ a motion flood light & have 2 90w Halogen "screw in" bulbs... Waiting for the darkness to come to see..... Update... This is much better!!!! Those halogens get it going very bright & the cam picks it up very nice! Not sure why it didn't pick up the light from the CFL??? -
Can you advise a balun? Baluns, Connectors or the Cold
PaulsonLaw replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I've been searching about grounding the system for this as well.... The poles are PVC/Fiber w/ a pvc hood, so no lightning issues.... I need to ground the ground wire on the cat5 & there is no ground for the DVR, so I'll crimp an eye w/ ground I toss it on a screw on the dvr..... *** The blur that I'm having...... On the TV, non HD using RCA over cat5, I have a slight ghost running across w/ some slight rainbow lines..... Everything else is fine, not pixelled... On the laptop, via LAN, it's an HP netbook, 1.6mhz atom, I have no lines, no ghost, but pixelled to hell.... Haven't tried on any other devices..... No power over cat5... I have 120 & every pole & the risers up the pole have 12v running opposite the video feed.... I have 4 more cams coming, in a few days to finish phase 2. These will be running the factory BNC/Power coax so then I will have a better idea.... Thanks you guys! -
