Any harm in the long run to the HD? In this app I think it will be MUCH easier to set-up... Thanks in advance! -
Can you mount DVR sideways as long as the fans blow up?

The zmodo has intake fans side by side, 16ch btw. It's in the basement of the structure and always cool, so no problems there. Was asking mainly for the harddrive.... Thanks for the replies! -

I had 1" in the first link for a reason! I have to fit 4 cat6 in a 3/4" conduit! Dont think it can be done! Lines... 1st, 4 west bound cameras... 2nd, 4 east bound cameras... 3rd, A/V/IR over cat5 4TH, internet!!! Shat! My only thoughts is to remove the A/V/IR over cat5 & get a magnovox "smart box" for the TV & operate it over the net.... ... The DVR is being placed more secure in a building separate from the building w/ the router.... Any better ideas to solve besides this? -

Lay more conduit... I dont think I can put down 1 more stick for least 3months, plus I'd have to bust up concrete around the pole & try not to cut the dog fence line & ... ... .. . On the other hand, I did get the power hooked up today, the wire should arrive in the morning... I bought a liter of pull lube & 500' of 500lb pull rope, 1/4"... I just have to plug in the shop vac & suck the string thru & then we will find out as to the forth.... *** How much pull can tough cat6 handle if I hit a snare? Thanks All! btw, most of you will lol, I could not find a nice hood for my 4 poles to keep bords & snow off the cams, so I ended up buying some 18" heavy plastic flower pot bottoms & painting them to match, flip upside down & they look quite nice... I will have to upload pics of the whole thing on here when it's done, hopefully in a few days... -

Not to argue of course.. My Network instructor last fall is the network head for 1/2 state sized bank. He told us to always mount w/ fans blowing up if mounting anything sideways. Having the heat naturally rise increases the fans effectiveness 10% higher where the other, fans pulling the heat down, adds up to 10% loss.... Makes sense the way he explained it.. -

Many option to check into, thanks all... I'm running a zmodo 16ch dvr. The 3/4" line running out from the DVR location was going to carry the internet, 8 cams & the a/v/ir, but I read up I can access the dvr right off the network so not a problem.... more reason to buy a new smart tv lol -

My cat5 issues solved! Least I hope, check it, Ubiquiti

No 90 turns except the risers. the 14/2 is right outside 50% of the conduit, but I spoke w/ wires tech & they assure no issues there for the watts I'll be pulling... -

http://ubnt.com/toughcable From the site, we ordered 2 boxes of TC-L2. I didn't mention in other post we are also crossing right on top of an in-ground dog fence 3x, let alone the other issues w/ the cat 5, & distance. This company assured great performance so we shall see.... * ESD Drain Wire Both TOUGHCable models have an integrated ESD Drain wire to prevent ESD attacks & damage. * Anti-Crosstalk Divider Divider inside the inner core separates the wire pairs to reduce cross talk (NEXT). [Level 2 only] * Multi-Layered Shielding Multi-layered design enables TOUGHCables to withstand harsh weather and heavy use. * ToughCable Connectors Use ToughCable with Ubiquiti ToughCable Connectors (sold separately) -
^^^ That's a good tip, 5*

No, using the 2 post bnc baluns<? The price wasn't that much more than stp cat5. I paid 373 for 2 boxes tax & ship. I only hope I can get 3 lines into a 3/4" conduit! Geez what a day, dug, buried & laid 750' of conduit & 14/2 w/ a friend and a shovel! -
Here's what would work... http://www.google.com/imgres?start=36&num=10&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=rUN&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1280&bih=551&tbm=isch&tbnid=aWjDZZuE3QzthM:&imgrefurl=http://www.aquaguardinjection.com/sources%2520and%2520evidence%2520of%2520basement%2520leaks.shtml&docid=DpL5WBBnp6ZBCM&imgurl=http://www.aquaguardinjection.com/images/Elec%252520conduit%252520entry%252520%252520-%252520above%252520grade.jpg&w=1600&h=1200&ei=1rMHT_7fIarL0QHgmvClAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=597&vpy=189&dur=2636&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=169&ty=83&sig=100015088544292073863&sqi=2&page=3&tbnh=151&tbnw=193&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:36 I would use the tube mortar that comes in caulk like tube. As for mounting it, make a tight fit & use a tapcon screw through the unit to the stucco....

Ummm... 14/2 outside conduit causing EMI?
PaulsonLaw posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
So, "they" say that running 120v 14/2UG along side the conduit which carries 1 cat5 STP for 4 cameras @ 300' will cause EMI & jack the picture???? I really cannot see this from what I researched, laying conduit & 14/2 in the morning if anyone knows..... -
First attempt - questions
PaulsonLaw replied to mogolman's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I'm not so new to the game, but new to long hauls. As for the 12v loss at 100', I know they carry up to 165' BNC w 12v coaxial cable, consider that? You could always run 18/2 along for the power? Do a test run before install? Good Luck? -
Need advice going from DVR BNC Out to HDTV 100 ft away
PaulsonLaw replied to kkevin2004's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Right, things looks awesome! On our hill we are running 3 16ch set-ups. Our being the first. We are in the cabin, but as it will be a rental someday we want the DVR in the Main House. This was a great way to control it from the cabin. Note I have not installed yet, but have it sitting here... The unit claims up to 342' of cat5. I will be running right at 400' so I think I might run cat6 SSTP just for this use, while running the cams at 300 to 400' on cat5 in conduit... Will repost how this unit works for remote control at 400' in a few weeks when its in... -
cat5? cat6? utp? stp? sstp? AGH!!!! PLZ Help!
PaulsonLaw posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I know a good bit about this stuff but.... I'm installing a Zmodo.... I have 4 cameras 300' out w/ conduit & 14/2UG, all on same pole... 4 other in one run of poles, 100' 250' & 385' out w/ conduit & 14/2UG I want clear pics, but the cost is racking up... So, What should I get to run in the conduit? All 4 on 1 cable? Using passive balons... Thanks! -

cat5? cat6? utp? stp? sstp? AGH!!!! PLZ Help!
PaulsonLaw replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Doesn't matter. Ideally you'd run solid core in the conduit and terminate it to something permanent on each side then use stranded patch cables to make the connections to your equipment. If you're only looking to buy one though, get stranded. It's more flexible so you'll have less problems wiring. Could I run solid in conduit & put balins to BNC & use the included 60' BCN cable to cameras? The poles are only 12' but can use the 60' coax if they dont drop the signal to much before the 300' cat5 run... -

cat5? cat6? utp? stp? sstp? AGH!!!! PLZ Help!
PaulsonLaw replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Ok, spoke w/ Zmodo tech support. They said running up to 400' cat5UTP, I should see no problem running 4 video feeds down it. SO long as power is not right next to it. I told them I am running 14/2 along side the cams for 120ac to the poles, they said use shielded conduit??? I said I already have regular conduit, they said bury the 14/2 6inches away??? So... sound juvenile but can I wrap the conduit in foil, then put the 14/2 alongside? That would be better than 2 trenches.... -

The 120v 14/2 is running alongside the conduit & runs up inside the pole, separate from the conduit completely. This is only for the cameras now, a 12v charger for an electric gate maybe someday... So I can run 4 cams up to 385' on UTP cat5 in conduit w/ a 14/2 running alongside said conduit?
