  1. My only ideas after research is a newer GoPro camera... The targeting laser on them is powerful enough to see in the daytime.... is there a possibility this hit that one IR cam for that frame, causing a flux of signal which jacked up that part of the HD? Only thing I can come up with,.....
  2. SO! My question is what device can scramble a DVR harddrive (wired analog system)??? Details of scramble... Caused several time gaps 4minutes before & after the truck flash. DVR is on rack in basement, metal siding & roof... After pulling what was left of the 264 files, I found 2 screen shots of the truck, one normal on that cam & one of the "flash". Both are attached... I know this is a flash, as this dvr's output records to another dvr 700' away. On this 2nd dvr, (frame by frame) there is no "flash" that knocks out the screen completely, it's HD is just fine, shows just a regular camera flash, from the looks anyways. Home owner noticed same truck in town 2hours earlier that was Clearly taking a few pictures of her... Yes they have road cams & what not, but this was the only shot of the flash. The primary dvr WD hard drive got scrambled, and the back-up DVR was fine. WHAT THE HECK CAN DO THIS!?!?!?!?! Not an EMP wave as only that camera showed this flash, the other primary files are damaged, but not "flash". I can only imagine a high end camera where the frequency of the flash matched that of the cctv camera? Thanks In advance! *** cannot load screen shots as they are 770kb, limit is 25

    Recommendation for Custom Camera Setup?

Zmodo has a new NVR system I set up a few months back. I'm more of an installer vs networker. This was not fun to set up. Cost me a 5hour learning curve, but 2hours of that was due to the customers router being a pos. The picture is nice & sharp, but IP cams are to bulky for my likings. I still prefer installing the good old analog Zmodos. Never have a problem (unless it is figuring out a custom run.) Although I've installed about 20 Zmodo's in 2012, I must say I do have beef with the grey-colored residential units. After the last one I set-up, the have made the circuit board 1/2 the size, removed half the options.... heck they dont put an alarm out on those units anymore! (edit: they also removed the cooling fans from this unit!!!!) not one, but the commercial units have 2! So, for now, yes I still recommend Zmodo $ for $, but I will only install the black commercial dvrs in the future, as they are still good quality. GL OP
  4. I really want to get a system in my SUV... For under $150 I found.... A 2ch, Automotive DVR, 2 video ins & i audio in, 32GB SD or HCSD<? DVR lock boxes

I would find something that is close to what you need, then take it to a local machine shop, you'd be shocked at what the locals can get done

    CCTV Newbie looking for guidance

My IP Cam viewer works fine for out zmodo while on the LAN. My problem was IP conflicts on the other zmodo, 2 on one LAN gets interesting w/ the port forwards and what not.... If you have a dynamic IP, and it changes on you, you might want to use noip.org to link your ip cam app to...
  7. So, in the end, here's what got it! Passive baluns on both ends but no active needed, just a good ground loop isolator! It all works! Joy!
  8. Here's the set-up.... We have 2 CCTV DVR's, 600 feet apart.... With a connection right in the middle... W/out redigging, I have 2 pairs open, 300' UTP, 300' STP.... So, we want to sync the DVR's by putting the video out of each to an open channel on each... Also, want both to feed monitors at the midway point... I have only 2 pairs open on these lines to connect.... Here's what I have, it's crap, but kinda works.... -In Order- DVR1 BNC Video out - BNC to RCA - 6' RCA cord - RCA to BNC - BNC coupler - BNC to cat5 balun - 300' UTP - cat5 to BNC - >BNC coupler< MIDPOINT - BCN to cat5 balun - 300' SUTP - Cat5 to BNC balun - to BNC channel 13 on DVR2 The line coming back has the exact same set-up as well... *Both DVR's pick each other up, but both say video loss and the picture is that of some 1950's horror flick that was repaired after a truck ran over the film reel.... * Disconnecting at the midpoint to plug into tv inputs show nothing at all.... SO, anyone want to tackle this??? *The baluns are the black/green ones that are not passive or active off amazon, but there cheap Thanks in advance, if I get this right, it will be a system to be quite proud of
  9. Congrats on starting to install, I find it a great hobby. Not to mention there is a TON of HONEST charged money to be made in this day-n-age! Numb-nuts was right, ever system & every camera will be different! Conduit does look good in some installs, but in some not so much... Like you dont want conduit running up siding, I tuck it in nice & neat, never see it

    saving recorded files

I'm sorry but I'm lost??? If you have the network or 3g on, you can send images automatically to your email or phone in live time... As for sending a whole day of video, you can email it out in sections automatically, but never done it. Always easier to just plug in the flash drive.... More details would be handy...

    Android QQEye

I use "IP CamViewer" on my droid, works great, get the pro for 3$ and even better....
  12. Wow! Quite a rant... I've installed several zmodo systems now, never having any issues outside of troubleshooting issues on custom installs... I also only use bullet cameras, I never saw a need for PTZ as, for the $$$, you can have 8 cameras & another 8ch DVR for 300$, the same if not cheaper than having 1 PTZ alone..... So, nothing helpful, but good luck
  13. I can say, for the pro look, you all have nice poles! Mine was on a grave budget by the end, but will share anyways... They are 4" PVC Conduit, 5' base piece 3' in concrete w/ conduit ran up inside, and a 10' stick stuck on top. Some have a $15 lockbox for several connections. Are they weak? Ever try to snap a 4" section of conduit? Rather rugged for the money I take pride that for $25 installed & painted, they are very nice.... Other pro's, they are very easy to work with & have held up to all extreme weather so far. Yes in high winds the sway some, but not that much, barely notice and well worth the shots they give.... One could always use 6 or 12 inch for going higher or sturdier.... What's an aluminum pole cost, 250 to 2000 bucks?!

Using 940nm "bulb" as illuminator ?

How hard was the connections? Do they come w/ a pigtail?
  15. I saw these & thought for installs they would be a GREAT time & back saver!, not to mention getting the perfect height under any eve... Anyone have/had one? If so, how is it, what brand is it? Here's a link.. http://www.google.com/search?q=inspection+latter&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=qHe&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&biw=1280&bih=610&tbm=shop&sclient=psy-ab&q=+telescoping+ladder&oq=+telescoping+ladder&aq=f&aqi=g3g-m1&aql=&gs_l=serp.3..0l3j0i5.10000.10000.7.10779.1.1.0.0.0.0.107.107.0j1.1.0...0.0.HptuHxb5UY4&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=c2e4b4b9f354a49f They claim 300lb... hmmm
  16. Well, after not being able to figure out getting the video outs to go over 600' of cat5 to get to each others channel in, I've decided to go wireless...... Both Zmodo DVR's are 400' line of sight, but both mounted in basements... Goal is to have both dvr's bnc video out feed into each others channel 1 input.... I can run power/antenna lines up and mount under eve for line of sight... I also wish to have 2 receivers in a 3rd structure to pick up both wireless feeds, 300' from both DVR's.... This way we can see both dvr's on the TV or monitor in 3rd structure rather than on this 10" netbook.... Also, this will give both houses access to a split screen of the others cams & will give a back up recording of each others split screen.... Tired of trying wired w/ different baluns, active/passive, rca amps... nothing wired works..... Or would it be better to just run 2 cat5UTP between the two, but this would make for a LOT of work.... Thanks in advance! Tight budget btw
  17. That's correct! The metal siding & and roof! The only thing we can think is leakage off the very nearby 69,000 power lines. 750mv when putting a good meter from the siding hex screw to a copper wire stuck in the ground, opposite side meter/breaker box. Forgot to list how we resolved this... So starters we bonded the roof to siding w/ small tucked away ground wire. The bonded siding near ground to 3' ground rod. The dismounted the cameras & used a piece of composite decking cut down to mount cams to, then mount small composite to soffit. Just to be safe, I'm going to pull the cams back down & shrink tape the BNC connecters so they don't touch the shell while laying up in the soffit.... Glad to see we were not the only ones Sadly, even after that, the DVR got a little jacked, HD is recording real bad & bad "fabric" like interference when the IR's kick in on all channels, not just the 4 on the metal garage....
  18. (UPDATE) Got another unit in for another gig, swapped DVR's, same nighttime fabric interference. Play around with power packs, nothing, put on one of the new cams for the other unit, perfect.... SO, watch out on energized metal siding/soffit buildings! ............................. So this last job I had posted about a few times... Turns out... The steel siding/roofed 1500sqft pole building that 4 cams were ran out to did not have a bonding ground to the shell... Ran cat5 from house for 4 cams and a panel bonded ground as for 2 different meters.... Problem is, directly behind the garage are some low transmission 69,000v power lines, about 15' away maybe, along with regular lines for pole drops.... Problem was, only after metering metal shell to ground, was that the leakage from these lines was absorbed in the shell & when checked to ground, 750mvAC. This power was sent through the camera mount, down the coax ground shielding, down the cat5, right into the DVR.... This damaged whatever part of the DVR reads the IR Frequency so at night when the IR's came on, the screen was layered with fabric like interference.... So, before ever installing on a large metal building, always check the shell to ground to make sure it's not energized.

I saw those replacement rings for WAY less as well! Let me know how that works!
  20. Unplug each end and check ohms....

Your thoughts on Zmodo D1 DVR

I've installed 5 now over the last 6 months, no problems at all honestly. Sure gotta solve a few interference issues like any analog CCTV, but hey.... Yes there are more out there that are better, but if you are trying to stay below 1000 to 1500, a 400 Zmodo is the same as the other lower cost units.... Not sure on the D1 recording streaming question though...
  22. Well, hooked up the active balun to the DVR video out, with a passive at the other end 600' away to channel in on other DVR, got major crap. Honestly no difference than w/out the active balun...... So... I read the the DVR out works on a BaseBand like all composite video outs.... So, active baluns don't work on that frequency??? Or DVR channel inputs do not except Baseband??? Here's the active baluns I used... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010ENQ3I/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01 Here's what I'm going to try next I guess..... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GNU7MC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A1YQ5F33WHDUT9 Not sure what to do.....
  23. Ok, so I'm gonna order and run 2 Active Baluns and 6 Passive baluns? Is this right? Thanks for the help soundy Here's what I ordered... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007D5Y6F0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010ENQ3I/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01
  24. Tnks! So, I would run this... DVR2 Video Out - bcn cable 1' - active balun - SUTP 300' - passive balun - BNC "T" - passive balun - UTP 300' - passive balun - bnc cable 6' - channel in on DVR2 So one line would have 1 active and 3 passives? Thanks, what's a good name brand for baluns? Do the passive & active all have to be of same brand? Thanks again! Crap, also the DVR's are on different meters / buckets and transformers at the sub station..... So not sure if I have to toss in a ground loop .... thing....?
  25. I am looking to ad 1 inside dome camera 3.6mm < or close also 2 to 3 outdoor bullet cams, 3.6mm < or close all would have to have IR and for less than they sell online... These are going to a Zmodo cctv dvr... Tnks
