Now how the hell did you do that CollinR? Is this a function of the dvr, or the camera? Does it matter if its low light? I thought that if its low light conditions that the negative feature would make the license easier to read.

OK I guess I'll tuck my tail between my legs and not complain.

Webgate is also a good unit. They have a 6 channel model that does all you want. They use wavelet commpression. Retail is over a grand but you can find it cheaper. Somewhere around seven and a half.

Now that was funny with all the falls. You could tell he wasn't all there.

While out at the ISC show this last month, I went to all the booths that were giving demos on crimping. Know one was demoing twist-on's. Two of the booths after they when through the whole process, the BNC connector pulled right off. They were two and three piece connectors. They had all kinds of reasons why they failed. Then I found this one connector that was almost idiot proof. One step, so easy I could even do it. After my first crimp, I pulled as hard as I could. I was very impressed. I now use them. I believe crimps are the only way to go outside. With all the expansion and contraction. Inside I guess you can get by with twist-ons. Or be an expert like Rory. I'm sorry, I meant to say compression, not crimp.

I would have to agree with Tony, that you can insulate from an indirect lighting strike. Obviously if its a direct hit nothing will stop the damage. I've seen lighting travel across the ground on wet grass. Lighting is Very unpredictable. Lighting hit outside my house and turned on my battery powered toothbrush in my bathroom. So you never know. Getting back to the focusing of the camera, I had a brand new camera that had moisture in the lens glass. I would take the camera down and hook it up on a known controlled verified good connection. All cameras should be check on a bench first anyway. This will narrow down what the problem is. If the cam checks out OK then move to the cable. Then the DVR. You should get to the source of the problem by the process of elimination.

Man this thing is a real mother to program. Would it be easier to use a controller? Its my first one.

Don't be shy, jump right in. There are a bunch of guys that know a whole lot about CCTV and everything associated with it.

Yep, I should have gave more information. Its an ICRealtime 3600 PTZ. Current draw is 12v~2.5A or 24v~1.5A I wish I could find cabling that has all the lines needed. But I guess power is close to the mounted camera so no need to run all the way back to the recorder.

Help on Marketing !
galen replied to zonetech's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What I have seen in my area is they just go door to door. If there is no solicitation on the door then they move on. Mailings is good. Local news papers in the business section. And of coarse word of mouth. Like it was said before, don't be shy. -
Thanks CollinR I thought so, but wasn't sure.

Need to get mjpeg video off Nuvico DVR....
galen replied to megavolt512's topic in General Digital Discussion
Some dvr manufacturer make a program that will do what you want. File Converter is an application software to convert image files (.eye, .rec, .re3) created by network camera, video server or DVR into standard files for playback on media players (avi, etc.) Check your dvr makers website to see if they offer this. Some do. As I said before, I'm not familiar with Nuvico, but I would assume they would. That would save you buying software that would otherwise be free for you to use. -
Need to get mjpeg video off Nuvico DVR....
galen replied to megavolt512's topic in General Digital Discussion
I'm not familiar with Nuvico but most dvr's have a usb port that you can plug in a stick into to download your file to. The dvr will download the client viewer software automatically, so you can view it. -
using two different dvr manufacturers together??
galen replied to sf1964's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You will need an A~B switch to go into one monitor on site. Unless you have a monitor that supports two different sources. Which you may have. You will need to plug the second dvr into a router and close the other icr software out before opening the other. The router will take care of sending you to the right dvr. The dvr will respond to the software. You may be able to open both at the same time but your bandwidth would suffer. -
Sparks check your mail.

One thing that may be an issue is that the 964 and the new 974 have auto tracking which may not be utilized if you don't have the Pana controller. In other words, you may lose some features. The new 974 has improved features with the auto tracking. The pana controller is pricey. The generic controller may work but don't count on it. I will be testing this in the near future.

Sparks, check out the ICrealtime cams. I know the 150 is everything you want but is a little short on the 20 meters. More like 10 meters but they have others. It has a mic built in. Just trying to point you in the right direction. Some of GE's domes can be mounted on the wall. As a general rule if it doesn't say wall mountable then you can't mount it there. I just beta tested a GE dome that is wall mountable and if you have light from another source then I think you open up more possible options. If you want all these features in a small camera, you will pay dearly, if you can find it. I will check for you Monday to see if IC Realtime has an outlet in the UK for you. With so many companies that sell in the UK, I'm surprised you can't find what you want there. If you PM me I'll give you a link to a forum much like this one right in your own country that are very friendly and will be glad to help you.

Expect to pay 400 for one. You can find no name for below 300. I have a 6 channel that ran 700+

I just buried some RG59. It cost 35 cents a foot. No power tho. There was power at the camera site. Plugged in a wall wart.

I have to agree with collinR that cameras operating or not will deter. I know this first hand. Not 100% of the time but it defiantly helps. I don't suggest dummy cams at all, because sooner or later they find out that its not real. I like a monitor right where the customers can see themselves.

How To Make Camera Adjustment Where Installed?
galen replied to Oxide.Blu's topic in Security Cameras
I'd like to have a tool like that on installs but I'm not in that league yet. I try to be as professional as I can be but I'm still using my teeth to strip so to speak. -
