How To Make Camera Adjustment Where Installed?
galen replied to Oxide.Blu's topic in Security Cameras
Rory, who carries the focus meters? I have the small LCD and was not aware that I'm not adjusting the picture correctly. -
Got a nice view tonight from a remote view. 6" tp 8" total.

OK you can rub it in. LOL I've had about enough of it myself. Three more years and I'm outa here. Got a nice villa down your way?

I might add that my DVR has a setting in the configuration settings for cameras. In the settings for cameras you have several choices for the camera that you are connecting to the DVR. Examples are: b/w, color, on/off. If you have settings like this be sure that they are enabled. And don't forget to click apply or the settings won't take effect. But if your getting a color image then it shouldn't effect the b/w image. Also after thinking about this, check the power requirements for the camera. The IR leds need more power when on. So if you are barely supplying enough power it could be an issue. Darn I wish I could spell better.

Yep MSM, I have seen amazing results of before and after video's that were run through these special programs. Which NASA or companies have a use for. We on the bottom of the food chain so to speak, can't afford these programs. Got to go... football playoffs are about to start.

I believe jisaacmagee is correct. This is a type of software that's not found it's way into everyday security. From what I gather from my reading is that its a software or integrated software engine that analyzes a narrow range of information that it was designed to analise. This would be most often utilized in industry specific applications. An example would be: looking at the surface of critical jet engine parts, to detect imperfections at high resolution for metal fatigue. This can be applied to almost anything.

Is there a more user friendly DVR than others? I have a customer that wants a easy to use one but I think its hard to find a stand alone that is. I know the geo cards are easier to use but she doesn't want to but a computer just for the security sustem. Thanks.

When setting up a customers DVR for the first time, and he wants to use the motion detection feature, How many seconds is a standard setting for pre-motion and post detection? Thanks G

Steevo, since you have a light that does turn on and it washes out the ir camera that is there now, just go with a low lux b/w camera with no ir.

Yep, the manufacters have their own name for it. Jpeg, Mpeg4, H264, Wavelet. Mpeg2000, take your pick, each one has its pro's and con's. Digital recorders compress and store images to a computer hard drive using various compression techniques. These techniques include JPEG, MPEG, Wavelet and a host of other proprietary methods. Images can be stored at a rate of 20 frames per second (fps) to as many as 480fps depending on the software features offered by the manufacturer. MPEG is a video compression method commonly used in digital recording. MPEG-1 is a standard for CD-ROM video and audio. MPEG-2 is a standard for full-screen, broadcast quality video. MPEG-4 is a standard for video telephony.

Some DVR's have a feature that you can set how many seconds before and how many after the end of motion to record. Default on mine is 5 seconds on both. I changed it to 5 pre and 30 seconds post. I'm pretty much covered and save a whole lot of disk space.

As I thought, I wasn't even close.

I'm probably wrong on this but I think a mechanical cut filter is when the photocell switches from day to night. It does it mechanically and instantly. Not like some that linger and you have a degrading in the image while the other way of switching is done which can take some time. Just a better grade of camera.

How can I upload *existing* video feed to the web
galen replied to imagehog's topic in General Digital Discussion
imagehog, yes and no. You need a video server. But to view from a handheld device the data stream would probably not be what you would like. You would just have to try. This is my live feed of my cam looking at my bird feeders and hottub on channel 1 and office on channel 2 You will be prompted to load the activex plugin to view the video. http://72.129.165.146/login.ml -
Looked at a clients house today. He has an entry door under a deck. If I mount a camera under the deck. It could be disabled by an intruder. Only 8 feet high. So I mentioned a camera on the inside of the finished basement room. Client likes that idea, but wants no drilling in the finished room. He wants an IR wireless camera and resolution is not a big factor. Total distance from camera to DVR is around 35 feet through floor. I have limited experience with wireless cameras. What would you suggest? Thanks. G

Dam! Thats great advice! Hell its right next to it. But its no big deal to run from the dvr. When I get closer to the install, I know I will need help with this monitor. I'm going to have to install it in the wall like a shadowbox or on a small shelf. ???? This guy wants it nice and neat no matter what the cost. He's a retired doctor, and friend. I want to do a first class job. And you are so right about them telling you where to put the cameras. I actually stayed up thinking about this install. I when back over and said "this is how its got to be done". I don't know what the word "can't" means. Thanks again Monster!

Met with my client yesterday. Talked him out of wireless. Found a way to run coax up through a wall. Will take a little more time but it will be better for Larry. He signed the contract. He wanted a monitor by the front door so I may need some help with that. Thanks. G

Is it preferred to run cat 5 cable verses RG59? Or is it only better to run cat 5 on long runs? Thanks
-
I know, I told him that. I only have myself to blame for bringing it up. I'm going to try and switch him back outside with a small covert, that will not be so noticeable. I don't want to lose this bid because of one camera! Its got a lot of goodies. Two monitors, DVR, 5 cams. He's got 1/2 mil in cars in his garage. And rich friends. That need systems like he has. You know, he's got it, I got to have it, kind of thing.

Its a Nuvico, 8 channel, 160 gig. Customer couldn't afford bigger hhd, so I set up the MD to give him more time. One cam is in an equipment room with very little movement. 6 channels active.
