  1. Here is hoping this post is in the right sub-forum. I did a search and saw a previous post in the section mention code-compliance, so I think I'm fine. I'm starting the next and final round of my home security system. My system is split across three DVR units, but all can be viewed from a central program (PSS v4.05). I'm installing the third unit to monitor a handful of in-door cameras plus the final two wide-angle exterior cameras. My question is this; is there an industry 'best practice' for mounting the indoor cameras so that they are code compliant? Right now I am planning to take low-voltage 1-gang boxes and mount directly to the ceiling, then use a $.50 cent blank metal wall plate to cap that and then put self-tapping screws to this wall plate to mount the camera. The attic wiring is typical BNC/audio/power run back to the equipment closet. I just don't know if this is the preferred method. The only other method I can think of is to mount the low-voltage box to the top of the wall in the same fashion I was planning to mount to the ceiling. In that case I do know I would have to cap the newly drilled hole with fire-proof caulking. I'm in the US/MD if that helps narrow down what might or might not be required for my region.
