Ground Loop in System, DVR has Ground, where to connect?
coreyman posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
I'm using an 8 channel LTS dvr and there is a stob on it for a ground, where should I connect this ground? Will it help with my ground loop issue? All cameras on the system have a ground loop problem with lines going through them. I used a single cat5e for every camera, ran power on green and green white, ran video on orange and orangewhite with passive baluns. All the cameras are connected to a single 12V 5A power supply. -
The LTS units are really good, and if you are in the united states its easier to send them stuff for warranty (not that I've ever had to send a dvr in for warranty), because they have USA offices, and they ship from USA so you spend less on freight. Remote viewing and pricing are pretty good. which dvr model are you using ? I found an LTS dealer near me. I use all the models.

Thanks guys my supplier sells all of these mounts that are at these sites.... just making sure that is what you would use as well ' (Pana-vise does have some more specialized mounts that my supplier does not though.)

I am thinking about putting 4 box cameras indoors, I have seen them in banks on a mount and NOT an enclosure. http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/360534790-Case-For-CCTV-DVR-Camera-Waterproof-Enclosure-Housing-wholesalers.html They don't need to be in the weatherproof enclosure like this when I use them indoors. (At least I don't think.) What mount do you suggest for box cameras?

That's what I'm asking the community to suggest is a simple mount that they would use.

I'm not understanding you? I'm going to get some good baluns, I never said I wasnt.. (Actually I've already bought the baluns from my supplier and I'm going to install them tomorrow.) Don't have a need to swap out the 12VDC 5AMP Power Supply, so I don't know why it's being suggested all of the sudden? -

Using only two wires on a Cat5e cable would also be a problem; every balun I have seen that pases 12V power over Cat5 cable uses 2 pairs (4 wires) for the power. If power was the problem it wouldn't turn on. -

It also says they should be good for 50 meters. None of the runs are over 60-80ft probably. -
12V PTZ no power over 200ft siamese, but will 2 ft away.
coreyman replied to paulnye's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
That's exactly what I needed to know Thank you! Where is the link to that calculator? 3.6Amps is a rather large amount of power consumption! -

What if it was cat5 being used. Could you use more than one pair ? And how would that affect the AWG ? -
The quality is not 580 it doesn't look like...does it have lower htvl for black/white? There may be a cabling issue.

Thank you... Why do we need a fast shutter speed for this application? -

Yes that is the prOblem I did not realize cat5 had a higher resistance. -

So. You can capture clear images of license plates using a "regular" camera, but it needs to be a pretty good regular camera. The following features are essential: * Fast shutter speed. 1/1000th of a second works well. * The camera must allow you to set this shutter speed as the slowest under any lighting conditions. * Progressive scan helps a lot, especially at larger capture angles. * For night-time capture, a good source of light is absolutely critical. * You also need a way to filter out the glare from car headlights. Commercial cameras typically use an IR-pass filter and an IR illuminator to solve the latter two problems. As you have probably realized by now, there's no way in hell you're going to get all that for $150. I have one of these cameras. http://www.directron.com/cmb160wtd.html With an IR illuminator couldn't it capture a clear image of a plate? The only thing that confused me is this first you say fast then you say slow, which is it? -

DVR > Balun > Cat5 To Wall > Ebay Connection > BNC F/F Keystone < Ebay Connection < Cat5 To Camera < Balun < Camera well see you in a few days when you WILL still have a PROBLEM 6 connections on each camera I've done this the same way with regular BNC cable in the past and didn't have any problems out of it. I really do appreciate you helping me. -

Ok well I'm going to try it how I posted in my previous post because it does look good, and if I have problems I will go straight through like you suggested. Thank you so much for the valuable information. -

coreyman replied to coreyman's topic in Digital Video Recorders
So there is more resistance on the cat5 than on the bnc? So these connectors are useless? Or can I still use the connectors like this, DVR > Balun > Cat5 To Wall > Ebay Connection > BNC F/F Keystone < Ebay Connection < Cat5 To Camera < Balun < Camera -

Here they are, http://www.ebay.com/itm/220817752614?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1908wt_1163 they are inside the wall on the other side of the bnc keystone connected to the cable. They also do not appear to be 'actual baluns'. Hi. there is your problem you must run baluns at each end you dont have a ground problem you cameras are out of balance. sorry i dont understand why you have gone though so many connections on each camera (which can also give you problems) so you have (from wall) BNC then Keystone then cat5 to camera then the ebay connection ???? Well the keystone is a F/F BNC so it goes like this DVR < Premade BNC Cable < BNC Keystone > Ebay Connection > Cat 5 Orange Orange/White > Ebay Connection > Camera What do you mean the cameras are out of balance, what are these connections good for if I can't use them for less than 150ft connections ? -

it will be down to a bad fitted hard drive. you get this with cheap dvrs or fitted by someone who has not used the H/D fixing kit. I put the hard drive in it, where do I get this 'HD Fixing Kit' that you speak of? It's not rocket science to install the hard drive, 4 screws and you are done. The installation was much like all the computer towers that I've put together. I know some servers have a tray that the hard drive sits in, but I also have some models of servers that the hard drive screws directly to the chasis(usually in these models there is no room for a HD tray).

WOW, 'sorry we don't support USA'... that's LOW.

is this all you have at the dvr end ????? What else should I have? Inside the wall is 8 cables for power but they are all connected to a screw in terminal that has one cable that comes out the wall to connect to the power supply.
