I see that iVMS 4200 has 3 parts, Client, Strorage Server, and Stream Media Server. I installed the Client and attached first three cameras. How do I view from a remote location from a simple web browser and also from a smart phone? Meaning what ports do I need to open on the PC running iVMS? Do I need additional software? Do I need to also do port forwarding to each individual camera? What is the best app to use for smart phone Thanks

I bought a Hikvision NVR that has a 16 port PoE switch and also a single LAN port. It seems devices connected to any of the PoE switch ports cannot be reached from the network that connects to the single LAN port. Instead its a separate independent network. It means that I cannot manage individual cameras that are connected to the PoE ports from my computer on the main network. Is this intentional in the design? and is there a work around? Is there a big downside to just buying NVR without PoE ports and buy a separate PoE switch. http://www.hikvision.com/us/Products_1_10649_i8679.html

I am searching 'Hikvision CSX' and not coming up with much. Could you post a link to what you are referring?

abdelm01, Thanks for the additional info. So I now have a powerful i7 with 12GB ram. I installed the PCNVR that you suggested and it installed fine and I added the first 3 cameras. Then I opened the 3 ports on my firewall, and went home and installed iVMS4200 client and imported the PCNVR and I was now viewing the 3 cameras. So far so good. I havent yet explored the 'storage server' or 'streaming server' modules. What is CSX that you referred to?

I am planning to attach up to 60 cameras to an NVR for viewing at ... 1. The NVR itself with 4 attached screens. 2. Remotely from another location on a desktop PC 3. From a smart phone. I dont mind where Recorded video is stored, it can be on the local HDD or on a separate Storage Server. So I guess I need their PCNVR installed on a dedicated PC (no problem) On Hikvision website they dont offer the PCNVR, only 'iVMS4200 Client' http://www.hikvision.com/en/us/download.asp I did find PCNVR at another site .. http://www.nellyssecurity.com/customer-service/software/hikvision-cameras (seems the word gets automatically block that sounds like 'smellys' security but starts with 'n') Is that the version I should be using? After that what port(s) will I need to forward on my router to the PC running PCNVR? Will I be able to view the NVR remotely from just a web browser, or will I need to also install ivms4200 client? I have wavy lines on the DVR screen, but when I plug the cameras 13, 14, 16 into a regular CRT TV the pictures are 100% clear and perfect. It cant be a bad signal on all 3 cameras because the picture is perfect on the TV It cant be that ports 13,14,16 on the DVR are bad because other cameras are 100% fine when plugged in to the same ports/channels These 3 cameras are all running from one locally powered 12vdc power supply, and the video runs 1000ft over cat5e with baluns. Channel 15 is an example of a good camera signal. The DVR is a 16Ch Q-See QT-528 What could be the problem?

Actually, one camera at a time into the DVR has wavy lines. However, I will see what happens when I power each camera separately

1. If caused by the common grounds on the cameras, would the baluns still be at fault? 2. Could you explain why the picture is crystal clear on the regular TV, but wavy only when connected to the DVR

I also bought the QT526 with 16 of those cameras included for $760. It comes tomorrow and I will test and compare it with the other system I just got (Revo R16D4B4SYS-1000) the Revo only has 8 cameras and doesn't do D1 at 30fps on all channels. I have a suspicion that the q-see is a better DVR, with better remote software and iOS support, and that the q-see cameras are a little bit better than the Revo. I will see, and post some pictures for those also curious about considering low end low cost systems

I need approx 16 analog outdoor cameras and my budget is $150-200 each (just for the cam) 1. Low light but not night vision (don't like picture quality during the day on IR cams, plus we have lights in the parking lot) 2. Varifocal - need adjustable zoom from wide to medium (maybe 2.8 to 8mm ish) a couple of them I might need superwide if it available. 3. They will mount to a poles so they won't be under cover so do I need waterproof or weatherproof? 4. Prefer discreet look and not the large enclosures. It's a church and trying to avoid it looking like an airport. I was looking at the VCM-24VFH from CNB but prefer the look of a bullet. Does anyone have a recommendation?

The installation costs will not impact us as we have some skilled regular maintenance staff who will do most of it, and IT who will install and setup. There won't be any need for trenching as we will attach the cabling to the current steel wire that spans from the roof to the top of the poles. It's working well for the first PTZ mounted. I would like to know more about IP cameras. Will they provide better live surveillance like I have described? Is it just a clearer picture when zoomed on playback? Are they good in low light? What software benefits will there be? - maybe I am interested in that part as I want iPad live viewing.

The objective is to give greater live visibility of vunerable areas to our one mobile security gaurd by adding cameras and viewing on an iPad with a fast WiFi connection. This would give him awareness if a stranger enters the property where he is not located at that time. There are 3 vehicle entrances, and the property has no perimeter fence an the size is on the picture (approx 1000ft). The front of the buliding(s) have 20 entrances all unlocked by a buzzer. The parking lot is large and less important than the entrances where people come and go. The rear of the building has 2 fenced playgounds, and 7 locked entrances. The picture I posted shows my rough idea of postions and anticipated coverage angles of 16 varifocals (mounted to light poles), 5 PTZ, and 3 License plate cameras. The key/legend is on the picture. You have to zoom the image I posted to see detail. My thought is the gaurd might see something suspicious either from his office, or from the iPad, and then either use one of the 5 PTZs to get closer, or more likely he would go to the location in question to investigate. During busy events, there will a couple more guards and one stationed by the DVR to be constantly viewing the cameras and using the PTZs if needed. When the PTZs are not being controlled I would have them be on a useful swing pattern to cover the parking lot. Hope it doesnt look like an airport, or like big brother is watching but at the same time kepping it professional looking and with the security of the guests in mind. Not sure about IP cameras, they might cost too much. So far I am considering the CNB domes that were mentioned here at about $160/ea, CNB PTZs at $600/ea, and the LPRs at about $600/ea. With cabling, accessories, and some additional labor its looking like costing around $10,000 before the DVR. The DVR will be some research for me, and another post. We do need iPad viewing that is good quality for sure. So this is the thoughts so far. Hope this explains more of what we want and could provoke some additional comments and advice. Thanks for the heads up, I thought you only needed a joystick that runs compatible protocol and baud rate. So far I can control the CNB PTZ, but next I need to see if I can navigate the menu, setup some presets and cruise paths, and maybe make the picture look a bit better than the default setting.

How are you going to control it? With a joystick. I have it working on the bench right now.

The CNB came today. Just by handling it I am impressed with the build quality and attention to detail concerning weatherproofing. Can you post a link to the Revo?

hi. the specs will be seen by many sellers some may be ture some not. its all down to build quality and standing by there product. many people go on about the CNB being an expensive name it is infact the opposite. yes you can buy the same spec for a few $$ less and have 1 year warranty or just a few more $$$ have a good 5 years warranty Tom, Unless I would purchase a few different ones and check them out fully, how would I know about the build quality? Do you have a recommendation for the one for a few more dollars, has 5 yrs, and has good quality build?

Seems like CNB is a reputable brand, and I found the SDN-22Z27F to be a current model boasting good specs. I found it for $588, and cant wait to test it.
