I had a 1TB hd installed, and at Full D1 with 4 cameras at 7.5 fps I got a week of full 24/7 recording before it would start to overright itself... I'll be installing a 2TB when I get my NVR. Problem is, the higher the TB the higher percentage of Hard drives fail statistically.

^^ x2. Sorry, Hate to be the bearer of bad news but in the CCTV industry, you get exactly what you pay for. You could get 12 cameras and a dvr for that budget, But you wouldn't be able to see much since the cameras would have to be so so cheaply made and performance would be crap. Trust me, I started out with two Cheap builds thinking It was going to be enough. I learned my lesson, and have done tons of research. You have two general options for your budget. Neither will be getting you 12 cameras and a DVR for under 1,000. - Analog. You can prabbaly pick up a good 16ch DVR for $400. That's what I paid for mine, Then the 1TB Hard Drive, $100. Maybe a 8ch DVR for 200? ish? Maybe? Half of your budget is gone right there.... Cameras, A Member on here has some Gadspot cameras that for what they are would be good, I think their like $80 too. So you could pack on more of those than you could with the nest option (ip mp) So you could get a 16ch dvr, 5 cameras for about the cost, Or a 8ch dvr, and 6-8 cameras for the budget. Or, Other option is IP MP I'm suggesting a Dahua NVR because of Value. 8CH NVR supporting 1080P and 120fps across all ch at 1080P giving you 15FPS per camera, About $250 for a new one. Cameras, Of course it depends, but you can pick up some good 2MP Bullet Dahua Cameras for about $260. So, 3 cams and a nvr for about your budget. You'll need wire and stuff like anything. Just a general Idea. You'll be better off buying a good NVR, and two cameras. Than a dvr, and 8 cheap cameras. I'm about to pull the trigger on my 3rd system and finally going IP MP. 8Ch NVR, and 2 1080P 2MP IP cameras. As time goes on, I'll add more. I was told to do this both times I posted on here how I was on a budget and couldn't do that, and would rather have 10 ****ty cams over 2 good ones. Well, Here I am doing what everyone told me to... One day, When I have many hours to burn I'm going to write up a Intro/Noobs post for all to read. Of course with the help of other members.

I have a hatred for humans who steal hard working peoples stuff. So that is why I have cctv.... I also am a techy nerd a lil bit and it's somewhat of a fun toy.... My system is just for residential use.

I would go and check a specific time frame if something happened. I found my system most useful for real time monitoring from my Home office (On a dedicated monitor) to just know what what going on outside. It's come in handy 3 times. One time resulted in a man charged with two felonies. Another was a Neighbor staking out my house and looking in my basement windows, and the last was a neighbord ladder was stolen. After a few months though the "New toy" feeling went away

While enhancing it to look better then the orignal image He provided the original photo? There was no enhancing done. I'm going to jump out of this disussion as you have your mind set in a way that if Photoshop is involved, its full blast and the image is being altered. Sorry, But you need to get over that; sometimes, Many times it's used as a simple file converter and not some super tuner of photos. I am a photographer, so I have the program. Why would I use another program to convert files. It does the best job, with no loss of detail. And without "Enhancing" I'm not trying to back buelwinkle for any reason other than It makes no sense the stance you have on this matter. Would it be ok if he used another program to convert the files? If you say yes, then thats exactly what I'm talking about. WHy? Its a program like the rest. Hell, you can add brightness/contrast with Microsoft image editer. Continue on.

:Shrugs: I find it the easiest program to take any file, and convert to any file and with the best results.

Not to jump in the middle or on a side, But looking at both files Very closely I could not see absolutely any difference in Picture Quality to the original and the jpeg converted by photoshop... And I own a large Apple Cinema Series Monitor specifically for editing Professional Photos and HD videos....

I'm assuming your talking to shockwave, But if not I can't install in the State I live in, Tennessee because State Law is that I have to work under another security company for 5 Complete years before allowing to do any cctv work by myself. Crazy....

Personally for a home system seems a bit much, It has a 45day trial. Try it. Don't have to buy it. If it's for your cctv business seems cheap for a good business tool.

No problem, we all start somewhere and I'm still new in my opinion too. Before you start building your system, it's important to figure out which route you want to take. Analog, IP MP. Of course, there is HD-SDI ( A Form of HD Analog ) However, Personally It's either Analog or IP MP. As many here, Once you put up one camera it's a bug that bites us all and it turns into a hobby. However IMHO it's a hobby that's actually good. Security is important, Even in low crime areas. It only takes one time for you to wish you had cameras. Anyway, Lots of reading and researching will be your best friend. I'll help a little bit from what I've learned. Personally, IP MP is the only way to go. I've had two Analog Systems and am now investing in IP MP because the Picture is just So much better. I laugh at general Analog system When Comparing to IP MP. I've found a NVR, (Network Video Recorder) DVRs are for Analog Systems. I've found a Dahua NVR that is 8Chan, Records 1080P at 120 FPS Meaning all 8Ch will record 15 FPS each, at the same time. But, At first when I only have up to 4 cameras, I can use 30FPS until I add more. It has many other features. Priced under $300. They also include POE 48V. (Power Over Ethernet, Meaning the NVR will be able to power the cameras up to 48V) With the NVR out of the way, It's time to look at cameras. Cameras depend on your needs. With an NVR, though; the downside is you are maxed out at 1080P resolution, about 2MP. Mind you, a 600 TVL Analog Camera is about the same resolution as a 0.3 MP IP camera. So, a 2MP IP is so much better... So, if you are ok with 1080P resolution, and 2MP, with 30fps on 4 cams or 15fps on all 8 which 15fps is pretty good. Should be plenty good.... Unless you find yourself really needing 30fps for some reason.... So, with the nvr having those restrictions/features, you need to look at cameras. Budget, features, needs etc... You have to ask yourself those questions. Sometimes it's hard because it's not clear what questions need to be asked... What size of an area do you need to cover? Entire Yard, Front door step, Street, How big is the area? Whats the purpose for that camera, Overall Area coverage? Detailed Face/person recognition, Seeing when the UPS guy delivers a package? Watching the kids jumping on the trampoline in the back yard... What are the lighting conditions like in the area the camera will be used? Street light, House lights, etc.... Many questions.... Many options camera wise. Some cameras have built in IR, Seems like Bullet cams sometimes perform better since the lens/ir can be divided within the housing. Tho, if close enough to the ground someone can move the camera and then do something bad... Personally myself I don't want to spend more than $300 per camera. I don't know your budget, But I learned quickly to have anything worth anything, you get what you pay for in the cctv game. While there are cameras that cost thousands, It's stupid for ME to pay that because I don't NEED those cameras, Or can afford it. For my price range of course it means hunting, hunting for the best value.... Performance to Price value.... It's important when working with a low budget. So, Once you figure out your budget you can begin looking at cameras. OR, you can see what you want and then learn you budget if you need certain features. For me personally, I've found that the Dahua Dahua IPC-HFW3200C 2MP IP camera is my best Value... at about $250 a pop.... I'm also looking at the 3300cn, it's 3MP so I'll be limited to 1080P and won't be able to take full advantage of the extra 1MP but it seems to be a tid bit sharper, larger sensor....... It's still under $300 from my source..... PM me if you need the info, I'm no dealer or anything so i'm not making a penny. I'm just trying to help a new guy out like I am. Of course there are thousands of options. But, let's take what we have talked about and go from there.....

If you can run solid wire do that. You'll have a better solid established line with no chance of severe inteference. When it comes to CCTV.... It's a 100% true -"You get what you pay for" Of course, if you're careful you can get good deals on good equipment on ebay. But the average system imho is junk on ebay. There are members here who can help you find exactly what you're looking for after you do some research. Basic info like Budget, Needs/wants, what your expectation is, etc.... Answers to these questions can help members assist you in giving you the best possible answer.

If I'm not mistaken Q-see, Qvis etc are rebranded Dahua DVRs. You have to do a lil bit of research on the exact model you're buying to know what you're getting. It all depends on your needs/wants. I always thought "Something is better than nothing, analog will be fine" And here I am after upgrading through two analog systems I sold mine and am going IP MP like everyone told me to do in the first place. If it is a newer Dahua dvr rebranded It's great for the average homeowner. I had a 16ch system with 5 cameras hooked up and I installed a 1TB HD I bought from Bestbuy. I bought my dvr from nellys. Best price I found for Analog dvr's. Most Dvrs will have a max of 7.5 fps on all chan. What is your Budget for the dvr, cameras or total..... I'm newer but willing to try and help until the experts chime in.

I'll throw in my .02 cents until a real expert does. But having a business like this where cctv is such a serious investment you should consult a local cctv expert in your area. Throw traditional analog out the window. IP MP cameras only. On the corners you should be running High Quality PTZ's.... And for the rest of the cameras Depending on what size area their covering 2mp, 3mp, 5mp.... Cat5, Maybe even cat6 for future use down the road. You should expect to spend $5,000 per HQ IP MP PTZ. And a grand on each fixed camera. If you find a quality installer, they will be able to create a map and plan for your system before install etc.... But, I thought I'd chime in until some one else does.

So Maybe I posted in the wrong forum. But I'll post it here since it's directly related to nvr software on a computer or a nvr standalone unit... Alright so I have a few questions and please bare with me as I figure out and learn exactly what it is that I need. Should have listened to you guys 6 months ago but oh well, I am now. lol I had another thread but that was for the analog system and is old etc... So, I have a few different options here. I want Live view, and motion recording so it won't be recording 24/7.... I have a solid custom tower I built but it was meant for my Photography/Video editing. Not to use as an nvr. It's a Windows 7 64bit I7 intel comp with plenty of graphics ( 1GB radeon 8500 card ) and a 1tb hd and a 2tb hd and I have room for 3 or 4 more hard drives. Anyway, I COULD use this as an nvr I suppose. I just don't know if It's something I want to do. My other option is to purchase a dahaua nvr. I plan to have probably a total of 12 cameras down the road.... so a 16ch system if I bought a nvr. I'm ok with recording at 7.5 fps (that's what I'm use to) Though I would prefer 15fps.... Cameras: I want 1.3MP, 2MP and even some 3MP cameras. The 1.3 with be for close door front shots. Even 2mp could be used here. I want 3mp for wider area coverage. ie. Front yard, Driveway, Side yard, Back yard etc.... From my understanding, a Dahauanvr won't take full advantage of a 2MP IP cam correct? Much less a 3MP or 5MP.... If this is true, Then My only option really is to have a dedicated pc with software.... correct? Of course I have a lot of research to do with wich cameras I want to go with. But, I really liked the Reviews, Specs and price of the Dahua IPC-HFW3300C 3MP http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/ipc-hfw3300c--15.html Only issue is 3.3 lens and 0.2 lux, was really hoping for a slightly better lux IPC-HFW3200C 2MP http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/ipc-hfw3200c--6.html right off the bat those are my top choices. I just can't spend any more on a single camera.... so the 3MP at about $350 is my top dollar I can spend on a single camera.... I'd only have a couple cameras and would Slowly add over time.... Yeah I don't know either. Im not okay with 7.5 fps for recording. I would really like to see 15fps. Since itll be recording on motion i think i have a better chance at this Still No one has Chimed in on if its worth the extra mp or even a 5

Hey guys, Selling my Analog system so I can go IP MP. I have a Apollo HD 16Ch Full D1 on all 16 Ch at 7FPS DVR. It's a Dahua DVR so it's really great quality. I have loved it thus far. Installed 1TB Hard Drive From BestBuy. (Cost me $160) I'll sell DVR with Installed HD for $400. It's a awesome deal. I also have a Qvis 700TVL Box Camera with 3 lenses. 2.8, 4mm, 5-100mm with power plug to the box cam) I'll also throw in the Power Converter for it. Also have the Mount, AND a Heated/Faned Enclosure.... I'll let it all go for about $160.... Cam was $160, Mount $10 or 15, Enclosure was 30 and converter was 16? It's a deal! I also have 4 CHEAP 600tvl Domes with IR.... I'll throw these in for free.... They actually have a decent picture. Though the color is messed up a lil bit. 3 axis domes btw.... x2. At minimum get the 720P system from costco. Don't have much free time, Make the time. If it's important enough to do something about your problem, you'll make the time. Get an hour less sleep each night for a few nights to set everything up/together.
