Happy Memorial Day all. I came across one of these units that continuously makes a clicking noise then shuts down after trying to boot (grid w/o video displays for a second or so, then unit shuts down). Clicks coming from the i/o panel at rear of device, not psu or drives. Any ideas as to what caused failure? Can the i/o panel (which appears to be slotted into mainboard) be replaced at reasonable costs? TIA

Not on site right now, but what am I looking for? From my time with the DVR, there was no change booting with or w/o drive connected.

Tx for the response. Did open unit and disco'd all drives and tested psu. There are some LEDs on mainboard that light up then go out on boot. Also found what I took to be a reset switch. I have no docs or schematics for the dvr, and am at a lost.

Came across an old monitor and a box of cameras. Monitor and cameras have RJ modular jacks on 'em. The connectors on the cabling looks larger than RJ11, but smaller and RJ45. I'm assuming these are referred to as UTP systems? Can the pre-existing wiring be reused for IP cams or data connectivity?

Thanks for the response. Not an old post, just old system I encountered. An extender would be cost prohibitive; new cable run will be done.

Anyone know where I can find info on these units? Model # as stated directly on the unit is "4 channel standalone DVR" Owner has a few of these units from a PD auction, but they are passwd protected and we can't get into setup. TIA.

I'll get pic next time @ location. Tried blank pw; no joy. Don't know if guy will allow me to pop any open, but I'll ask. Can't believe there are no designated model #s on 'em.

Greetings all. Having a problem servicing an Nuvico EV-16000N. In '12 I was called to service this unit which had a corrupted drive. It was an easy fix. This week got called back to site supposedly for same issue. I tested drive on PC (never powered up the DVR) and heard nasty click and grinding. Drive was never recognized; advised user to replace. Upon installation of new drive, found that PSU was bad. It would not boot with optical and/or HD connected and chassis fan intermittent. With no drives connected, it would turn on, fan works, but no video output (VGA monitor detects, then loses signal). While it was powered, unit unresponsive to front panel buttons and remote control. Installed standard Flex ATX PSU today and unit boots, displays "loading programs" then shows camera grid on screen (no cameras connected at this point). However, still unresponsive to remote and front panel buttons. Also, hard drive light never stays on, even when "loading programs". Original drive was SATA verson1 or 2; new drive is v3. I tried system with an older v1 drive; same issue. Tried both FAT and NTFS file systems (NTFS worked in the past). Still no joy. Can't find any support docs on Nuvico's site; and no end user support. Anyone have any ideas? The original PSU appears to have voltage regulator issue. Maybe the mainboard (PowerPC based) is mucked due to this?

A second reset of the mainboard cured all ills. DVR now operational

Hope all have enjoyed this holiday weekend. Anyone familiar with this company and it's offerings? Newegg Shell Shocker today had one of their cameras up which prompted me to look up this company. But haven't found anything from users, just sale offerings.

Hi all. A few times a year I get service calls from SOHO users/owners of various CCTV systems. Issues are mostly net connectivity problems and the occasional drive failures. I've also installed a few over the years; all were China-sourced systems fitting the tiny budgets I had to work with. I've also built some PC-based systems based on Kodicom cards. With the exception of PC-based systems, I found issues with all of the units I've encountered (eg: IE only browser support; crappy GUIs; badly placed OSDs that can't be removed; no vendor or OEM names on units to help track down support, etc) Now, keeping the above in mind, I am seeking advice for a standalone 16ch DVR with at least the following specs: -Full D1 recording across ALL 16 channels -Must be able to SIMULTANEOUSLY display to HDMI & VGA or BNC displays -Support at least 2TB storage (client doesn't care about an optical device but it would be nice if unit can accommodate one) -Good client software -IOS and Android support -Ideally muilti-OS support, but MUST support MS XP AND higher -Preferably not IE-only browser support, but if IE only, then at least IE7 to IE9 -US-based for any support or return issues Any unit recommendations with pricing and reputable vendors will be greatly appreciated. I am located in NYC. TIA

Well, installed unit today; can't recommend product. Power supply doesn't fit flush to unit and easily slips, . For remote viewing, quicktime plug-in loads but no video display, just the QT logo. Currently trying to find solution. -

It's supports full d1; can feed two display simultaneously and fits' the budget since cameras are going to eat up most of it. This thread (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26873) further my decision. -

Well, awaiting delivery of a 2TB QVIS Shangri-La; going to use a Westinghouse 19" LCD. Need some input on cameras though. Considering using all SV368ZE (2.8-12mm manual varifocal, 700TVL). Anyone has any experience with these units? -

Thanks all for the responses. Right now I cannot use/respond via PM. Unit will have to be standalone, not PC-based system. From some reading here, looks like Dahua (Qvis, et al) seems to be preferred choice. Any specific model recommendations? Budget $1200 (inc. cameras!!!) Right now I cannot use/respond via PM, who is OEM for Dahua ESDV-FULLD1-16? Any comments on this unit? -
System reformatted drive and it's up.

Greetings all. Anyone here works with these units? Is drive upgrade a simple matter of just installing a new one and having system format it accordingly? Encountered an EV-16000N on a call to a new site today. Site suffered a few days of intermittent power losses, and drive appears corrupt. Upon boot, system halts @ 98% when "verifying recorded data" (or words to that affect). Live views still good, but system is unresponsive to any user input. I disco'ed drive and got good boot, then reconnected drive while system still live with the hope that I could then have system do a re-format. However, drive wasn't detected until a system restart, where it locked up again and displayed above-mentioned message. With data recovery not being an issue, I thought I'd just connect it to PC and format drive to FAT32, then reinstall in DVR. But, no joy; with drive connected via SATA/USB adapter to a desktop, it's not recognized at all. UPDATE: Now see the drive on PC, file system is ext3. I want to repartition and format drive, but am concerned about this since according to Nuvico FAQ, they want end-users to "contact ... distributor to upgrade the storage capacity of ... DVR unit". End user @ this site has no idea who is distributor, just that original tech that did install is traveling and unreachable.
