Difference in these two cameras
bass1176 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Wondering if theres a huge difference between these two that the Exir is a greater benefit in a restaurant environment and its parking lot. HIKVISION DS-2CD2332-I 3MP EXIR HIKVISION DS-2CD2032 3mp Thanks for your feedback. -
Immediately this came to mind. Its your house you can do anything you like inside and no one should expect any privacy, as per the below case. Audio is always a sensitive issue, might be more of an issue then video. I dont think the below case had audio, but the judge ruled in the owners favor on portions of the claims. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/12/23/lawsuit-real-estate-agents-used-n-j-couples-home-to-have-sex-in/ Look up the Mobius action cam, it has a great motion detection feature, and not much work is involved and very discrete. Size of a match box car. All you need is a power outlet, I feel this is a better solution then an all out system on a house your selling. Just be creative on placement. Two of them would cover a good area, both also have audio which works from a distance. Cost about $65 each without an SD card. Camera by itself without power, has a 3.5 hour standby span. which was recently upgraded.

Suggestion for a DVR Surveillance System with 4 cams
bass1176 replied to conamor's topic in General Digital Discussion
I have used the LHV-1000 DVR by Lorex which comes with 8 720p digital cameras, Installed both indoors and outdoors, Picture is not bad at all, better then their best analog they had installed. It was 499 at costco with 8 cameras. There are a few sellers online selling them for slightly higher. Reducing the frame rate to 20 FPS from 30, gives about 6 days of recording at 720p on its 1tb HDD. With 4 cameras you will get double. Seems theyre still selling it, here it is http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-HD-720p-Security-System-with-1TB-HDD-and-8-720p-Cameras.product.100121251.html Heres a better upgrade at 1080p for slightly more http://www.costco.com/Q-See-8-Channel-HD-1080p-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-6-1080p-Cameras.product.100153934.html?catalogId=10701&keyword=973199&langId=-1&storeId=10301&refine= -
23awg vs 24awg cat6
bass1176 replied to bass1176's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I was very close to getting ebay's. I will go with a 23awg roll from monoprice and deal with terminating them, little bit more time but can be tailored better, also the cat6 modules seem to be easier with the inserts. Cheers and thank you again for your priceless input. -
Trying to future proof as per recent posts, I will go with cat6 for the upcoming project. Reading ebay feedback from a potential seller, it seems the sold-cable did not meet the customers specs after certain lengths. so I come to you for another advise on a reliable source. I cant imagine doing cabling twice nor will I chance this. So does anyone recommend a reliable source and would you go with 23awg or 24awg, monoprice which where I was going to, does not offer 23awg ( in ready made), and only 24awg slightly thinner.

A few folks advised to go with a none POE NVR and to get a switch. One benefit is putting the POE switch near the cameras and running one cable to the NVR. I have this switch, but would like to ask if you prefer an NVR with or without POE. FS728TP Thanks again
-
So it's possible to make the cameras ip static. Is this through the cameras menu? Or will they automatically get the same ip even after a power cycle/outage and don't have to do anything.
-
To think this equipment can constantly remain up and running for several years is impressive. I will use the above mentioned switch. I had my fair share configuring DVR but not NVRs. Here thinking, if the router is providing IP addresses via DHCP to the cameras on the switch, and these IP addresses have to be entered into the NVR. What happens if the router power cycles and assigns new IP addresses to the camera? We got around this on the DVR by disabling DHCP once we got an IP. Is there something similar for NVR type setups?

Your advise has been very helpful, many thanks. Cheers.

Difference in these two cameras
bass1176 replied to bass1176's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks a lot for the reply, any chance either of these cams can do more then 15fps at 3mp? the spec sheet says 15 at 3mp but some are advertising 30fps at 3mp. Thanks again -
Planning on getting the system below, any limitations I should be looking out for? Is this is an entirely Hikvision set? If so would someone have the model number so that I can view its night performance? Much appreciated!!
-
That system looks like an 8ch NVR with an add on of another 8. Ive been eying this one here for a while. Hope someone can give feedback. The few reviews I read are promising. http://www.costco.com/Swann-16-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD-and-8-3MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100144944.html http://www.costco.com/Swann-3MP-HD-IP-Add-on-Bullet-Camera-2-pk.product.100146709.html I believe the bullets that come up in this search result for hikvision 3mp are the same as the above cameras. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xhikvision+3mp.TRS0&_nkw=hikvision+3mp&_sacat=0

Which Hikvision NVR comes with this Swann setup
bass1176 posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
Can someone identify this NVR and if it can handle 5mp cameras for future upgrades? http://www.costco.com/Swann-16-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD-and-8-3MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100144938.html -
MegaPixel Cameras - Images and Demos
bass1176 replied to rory's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Not in the same league but here's a sample shot from the cheap lorex lhv1000 720p cameras. They are much more useful indoors but overall the owner is very pleased. This is was an 8 camera system for $399. Had to crop the image to make it upload. -
Is the public viewing your "private" cameras right now?
bass1176 replied to Kawboy12R's topic in General Digital Discussion
Site has been all over the news including CNN, authorities have since taken the site down (thankfully), ironically the owner of the site is now putting up his skills for sale on the same site. -
MP in relation to video output
bass1176 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I notice cameras are being advertised as 5mp with 1080p recording, just as a 3mp with also 1080p video playback. If both have video playback/recording of 1080p whats the benefit of having higher Megapixels? Also if they can record at 5mp why not advertise that res instead of the 1080p? Appreciate any clarification on this. -

I cant imagine silencing this would benefit anyone, thanks for sharing. Curious if this is legal here? some of the videos are not in public view and are private. I would think this will get shut down. -
Went with another Costco deal
bass1176 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I was very impressed with the image quality of this set and decided to make the purchase for someone else, I think its excellent for short range surveillance and the price is well below market value. 1TB drive, 8 720p outdoor cameras, was hard to resist. sale ends Monday for those who may be interested. http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-720p-HD-Security-System-with-1TB-HDD-and-8-720p-Cameras.product.100121251.html?catalogId=10701&keyword=979818&langId=-1&storeId=10301&refine I am wondering what your take is on the FLIR Cloud? should I bother or just do normal port forwarding and IP configurations. The setup is a Modem to a HP procurve Access point, and wondering if I need to throw a router in between or can I connect the DVR to the AP. TY for your input. -
SO Im in the market to purchase two of these machine, I had great results with swann in the past and I see it can only be betterwith this upgrade Here is the system. http://www.costco.com/Swann-16-Channel-3MP-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD-and-10-1080p-IP-Cameras.product.100101588.html My questions are and many thanks for your input and shared experience. 1- Whats the max range for POE and how can I increase this range? It comes with 100' cable but how will it perform with a 200' cable. 2- Can I add one ACTI PTZ to this system? Would you prefer another system over this at this price? The price is hard to beat and one reason Im going with it. Im assuming their 5mp cameras are coming out soon and is why for this price drop. Thanks for all your input, cheers.

Advise on a systen and tech questions
bass1176 replied to bass1176's topic in General Digital Discussion
Costco took the item down, I would think many vendors who purchased plenty of These Hikvision cameras were not too happy. They still have the 8 camera system up till tomorrow. If anyone would know which Hikvision NVR model this would be please advise. I browsed through all their NVR and couldnt make a match. -

Will test the cam below out in the near future and report back, price is attractive for a 5mp. Costco rep advised any Pelco D IP cam would suffice. Reading thru the specs, the hard drive is expandable to up to 32TB, not sure if they all or most NVR' can do this but thats something to appreciate here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CCTV-AOTE-5MP-2592-1920-3MP-1080P-Network-IP-Camera-Varifocal-2-8-12mm-POE-Smart-/111285150404?pt=US_Security_Cameras&hash=item19e91ca2c4 -

Thanks for this helpful information guys, I called Costco before the replies and they werent sure and I got off after a long wait. 100 meters it is. I saw good performance from an ACTI b97 I believe, and was pondering with the idea of adding this model to the NVR in the future. Probably wont have the need for it, but was curious of the NVRs flexibility. MBG and Boggie, many thanks for sharing your input on this topic. -
Search for Swann NVR the set comes with either 4 or 8 IP cameras with a resolution of 3MP. Thats as cheap and best as you can get in my own opinion. I have some and resolution is welcoming. The 4 camera set is harder to find now not sure why. Theres a 1080P set on ebay for 999. "Search Swann NVR 1080p". I haven't been up to date so someone else might lead you in a better direction. But this set works great for me for indoors and outdoors, pretty crisp and much cheaper then other brands in the same class.

Thanks a lot for your reply I just found the manual myself, it appears the monitor can only be turned on with a remote. Which I probably wont be able to find. Iam better off getting an entire replacement unless someone has experience with these to get them going. The ac adapter and remote, seem to be what Im missing. I plugged in the power into the OUT, cant imagine why they would make the power in, into a 4 prongs plug. Its the first link in this search if anyone is interested. Any recommended replacements? Then again dont want to make a new purchase over the right adapter and a remote, probably much cheaper then a new unit. https://www.google.com/#q=m201sb

I have this Monitor with a built in cam that I would like to turn on, I purchased an adapter for it which was 12v 5A, but noticed I was plugging it into an out rather then an in, and the in, had a four prong plug. It didnt turn on but was wondering whats the power out for and the same for the 4 prong plug which also is a power plug. Should I be connecting power to the 4 prong plug instead and is there an adapter from the normal looking DC v ( which is the one labeled out that I connected power to) to the four prong ( which says power in). Model number is m201sb which looks like an ADT product. Many thanks for any help on this.
