So there are 5 ips for this business and today I called optimum and they opened port 80. On the DVR side, I entered one of the 5 ips, ( was told I can use any) and ensured to use port 80 that was opened, the given default gateway, primary and alternate DNS. Needless to say the setup isn't working. I have an Arris cable modem, then a netgear switch, which branches off to the DVR and then to a router. After the router we have internet with no problems. SO the switch is giving the router connectivity, but not working to the DVR. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Some refining. Can post to dropbox if needed. And heres AZ notorious tire slasher . Are you near Scottsdale? Must be some idiotic trend there, Phily had its share with the same a few years back. http://arizona.newszap.com/northvalley/118575-114/scottsdale-bar-patron-goes-on-tire-slashing-rampage -
Is IP camera technology slowly progressing?
bass1176 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Are you guys noticing the same thing Iam noticing? Manufacturers price gouging for 1mp cameras. I feel 1mp cameras shouldnt even be on the market with the arrival of 2mp and 3mp cams. And the 3mp cam shouldn't cost no where near where theyre going now. A 3mp personnel digital camera would cost no more then $40 bucks, and many wont even consider buying it as we reach 24mp DSLR cameras readily available in the market, a switch or a small router costs also in the same range. Combining the technology is extremely expensive and I feel manufacturers are taking advantage. Tired of seeing junk cameras that are less then 1mp for selling close to $200, Panasonic is one company, and I wont support it. The technology isnt new and feel prices should ease up a bit but theyre not and thats pretty bad when its for good security. I hope prices do come down and technology improves for IP cameras. -
2 1080P IR Bullets at Costco for 349
bass1176 replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
yes we have been down this road. I was replying to your post as you linked to a 2mp camera by hisckvision, while the swanns were supposedly 3mp capable with hicks firmware. So the swanns are not what you linked in your question since hicks are 3mp. You linked to a 2mp camera. -

Thought Hickvisions version is 3mp? Anyone tried to record offsite using hickvisions firmware? -
IP camera and PC No router near.
bass1176 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Wondering if theres a solution to this. We need 1 IP camera to send footage offsite, problem is the router is too far and all we have is wireless internet to that room. So wondering if theres a none wireless solution to connect an Ethernet IP camera to the PC directly without a router, and allow for NAS and remote viewing. Not sure if creating an Adhoc from the machine would make this possible. -
IP camera and PC No router near.
bass1176 replied to bass1176's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yes cheet, using crossover cables rather then straight cable. Just was hopping someoen tried this in the past using cameras, to give feedback on the ip given and how to access it externally if even possible. Thewireguy- That pc in that room is connected wireless, no ethernet cable coming in. Hope someone played with such setup. I just basically want to plug the cam to the machines Ethernet port and have external access. Pc has internet 24/7. -
Car video recorders? any recommendation?
bass1176 replied to gencom's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I picked this up not long ago, produces great images and does its job well for capturing the road. You have the option to making 3, 5 or 10 min clips, motion detection, 1080p or 720, was much better then expected. Over 600 happy campers. Arrived in 12 days to the states. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251157303645?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 -
Recording IP cameras via NVR and compression. question
bass1176 replied to gencom's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just wondering when does this play a role and which types of these cameras are mass produced currently in the market. There are two kinds of IP cameras: Centralized IP cameras, which require a central Network Video Recorder (NVR) to handle the recording, video and alarm management. Decentralized IP cameras, which do not require a central Network Video Recorder (NVR), as the cameras have recording functionality built-in and can thus record directly to digital storage media, such as flash drives, hard disk drives or network attached storage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_camera -
Is IP camera technology slowly progressing?
bass1176 replied to bass1176's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
In terms of low light, you're waiting around for something that will never happen. No camera, be it megapixel or analog, produces really useable images in low light. Those that do either fake it or depend on IR in the camera- neither option being preferable. Want a good, useable image from a camera in low light? Provide light so it isn't low light. Help a camera help you. You wanna debate brand quality, fine. But using 'low light' capability as any sort of measuring stick isn't realistic in the real dark world. If it could be done, we'd be pointing every camera we own and taking shots with limited light and not caring. It just doesn't work that way. Hey understandable, wasnt easy to accomplish with analogs and probably wont change with IPs but I wont be paying the $800 for such camera. -

That Dahau is a great example and proof it can be done at an affordable price, and my beef is with companies like Panasonic or others selling the same kind of cam from 300 to 1000. Even worse cams for more money, taking advantage of the average consumer. Iam all for that Dahua at that $130 price range and similar Costco cameras. And I seen much worse going for 3x the cost which I dont agree with and wont support. -

Dont be confused partner, Look its gonna get into a heated debate and this wasnt supposed to be me against you, Costco is selling Dahuas and other descent quality cams, so no need to bash why I chose them. I mention them because your getting the most out of your buck, when comparing to other high priced 1mp cams. Your satisfied paying BMW prices for garbage be my guest, Iam willing to pay premium prices for a quality product which is not what some of these cams are. Ip cams are over priced and they havent reduced and feel/hope its time for a change. You can go buy whatever you like as its a free market. -

By all means these cheap IP cameras are not in the same league to be compared with German engineering, those are cheap IP cameras with Cheap chinese lenses are not BMW and is my point exactly, had they produced something worth the cash they are charging, it would be well worth it and you would have a point. Your buying junk at BMW prices and is exactly the point. And Korean made (where Hyundai is manufactured) cameras are considered a much better product then the Chinese, were not even getting Korean made. Never mind to be compared with what the Germans are making. -

bass1176 replied to bass1176's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The prices cant be justified in my eyes, especially with bugs as mentioned above, using cheap sensors, cheap lenses and cheap routing. Much more sophisticated lens with much lower F Stops have been established for much cheaper then what these guys are offering for the cheaply made lenses theyre selling. Were paying high premiums for garbage, I can see paying $1000 for a camera that has sophisticated lens architecture but thats not whats being offered. These arent Japanese lenses theyre selling, they are cheap Chinese lenses that even when combining the technology shouldnt cost this much. I have no problems paying $400 for a camera but give me a clean Japanese lens with god F stops for low light and at the least 3mp, by all means we dont need 24mp. This lens is much more complex in design then anything we've seen in an MP camera. Nothing about this technology should be costing what theyre charging and theyre taking advantage of the situation. The technology is already 10 years old and maybe when new it should be at these prices, but not now. Not when you can get a router for 10 bucks and a Japanese lens for $100, which is far from what theyre using. And no one should be satisfied with an .8mp cheap camera for $400 bucks only to produce a horrific noisy picture. Indeed I will go with Swann and other commercial brands till the price settles. I hope its a matter of time before a price drop. Would like to see 2-3mp with descent lens's for a fair price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-Telephoto-EF-85mm-f-1-8-USM-AF-Lens-Brand-New-USA-/190824401983?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item2c6e054c3f -
Is IP camera technology slowly progressing?
bass1176 replied to bass1176's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I really think for now either we buy used goods or go with Costco, until a company decides to come out and start making these cams more affordable forcing the price gougers to lower their prices. -
Ive been hit by new terms such as Effio e and p and superhad ii, 700tvl. One would normaly think this would be the best cam to buy at 700tvl, but from researching here its not always the case. The environment they will be used in is a well lit hallways, so they dont have to have super Ir illumination. Can someone here recommend good dome cams with up to date technology. Ebay has been good to me so I dont mind going to ebay. I found some private sites are selling the same thing as ebays for a much higher cost. With the ebay members having 100% feed and selling thousands. So whether ebay or private sites, if the price is fair and I get support then its worth it. But kindly share some models I can look into. Much appreciated.

Couldnt have done it without your recommendation.Thank you for coming to the rescue. If you come across them please give them a try, I cant get over how crisp the images are. Much appreciated. I have to give back and try to post some pics once they go online. Cheers.

Guys the Bosch cams are producing crisp images, I have never seen such clear images before. They beat any of these Sony cams I have purchased from the dot coms. I cant thank you enough and once everything is online I will show pics of the 3 types of cams I have installed. Vitek, Bosch and a sony no name from a .com, Bosch was beyond my expectations. They are also adjusting to different light settings fast, and wondering if they are indeed WDR. One thing I have not tested them in low light as of yet and hope they dont let me down, but the lighting is not that bad in these halls. Highly recommend the Bosh Dome.

Swann Tech on the forum? Costco? That is awesome and definitely makes one more comfortable buying this brand. Hope you hang around here more and learn a few tricks from the awesome crew we got I believe many here are willing to risk bricking it, in chance of getting to 3mp. -
Technology has improved, Costco higher end models.
bass1176 replied to bass1176's topic in System Design
Agree! one must wait before concluding quality and reliability, I figured theyre selling by such high volumes and to reputable stores such as costco who are concerned for their reputation. That they must have perfected and ironed out all the wrinkles in these new 2013 models. Ensuring that they use quality chips sets. What really triggered this post was I noticed that Some of their DVRs (Costco, walmart) are the same Dahuas were buying from .coms just branded with different companies, like swan, Lorex or Mace. No difference. I also noticed more 30fps 8ch and 16ch DVRS are readily available in these stores. Thats D1 30FPS on all channels. These machines usually cost too much on the .coms. I guess time will tell but noticing these are the same machines floating around and just rebranded, might be worth trying unless they are cheaper at a .com, as Costco doesnt necessarily always mean cheaper. Will test one of their swans out soon and report back in due time. Cheers. Cheers.
