PC based DVR vs stand alone upgrade
TechnicalTony replied to therookie's topic in General Digital Discussion
It kind of depends on how much the cards are I'd say. That and whether he system will take them without requiring some kind of reimage or rebuild. Personally I'd be wary of part requirements and how well supported a 5 year old pc system would be -
Local Network Set Up Apollo DVR
TechnicalTony replied to paultinkler's topic in Computers/Networking
Hi. If you're using ie then you may need to ensure you've enabled compatibility view. On IE click the cog icon click on compatibility view list and add the DVDs ip and address. It should then load properly and ask to install the plugins -
The medusa uses ports 80 for web 8000 for TCP and 3000 for cloud. The cloud app is called Medusa and will also work with standard port forwarded setups. Also, nice that someone thinks we're terrific

So the other day I'm sitting at home, pondering the days events and I remember a customer asking me about remote controlling a PTZ via joystick. (It was that or spend time with the wife ) Now obviously you can use a Dahua net keyboard but there's no built in screen on those (discounting the one I saw at IFSEC but that things so much of a nightmare to setup it's unbelievable). What I'm wondering is if theres a way to use a standard PC joystick to control the PTZ function. Not seeing anything in the PSS menu itself but I can't help but hope it's a possibility. Maybe by tweaking the ini files? Anyone else ever encountered this, or even have any hints on a good place to start? Using PSS 4.05 with an ADATA mini PTZ direct into one of their iApollo's for testing. (I'll update if I get any joy)

QVIS Atlantis DVR Mobile Viewing - Help Needed

I know what you mean, Sadly, much like Micros***e back in the early days it'll probably take a slap round the proverbial chops to bring em round to the realities of customer dissatisfaction -
QVIS Atlantis DVR Mobile Viewing - Help Needed

The App for the LX/Discovery series won't work with gDMSS. This is because these units have a completely different OS, and the Apps come from a ompletely different source. They're up on the google play store (Apollo LX and Discovery CLient) They were also put through to Apple but since Apple vets everything they're taking their own sweet time with it At the moment it looks like it's very much with the late Mr Jobs. -
iirc, we never updated the firmware versions beyond 2009 as we dropped the model
-
If it's one of our old collossus then it may be a bit dubious. I've never got a smartphone running with one. And Adata haven't sold them for a loooooong time. I would expect that it is a rebranded unit as well.

The Apollo's do carry a reset code, however it changes on a daily basis. Not so sure for the US, but in the UK you'll only get that code if the installer (account holder) phones us up. However, one sneaky little trick I've noticed is to pop the lid off remove the battery. Can't quite remember how long you need to leave it unpowered and unbatteried (if thats even a word) but essentially you're trying to set the date back to 2000, if you can do this you can access using a 6 0's password

This has to be one of my biggest headaches of late, Chap has a blackberry running DMSS, latest firmware on his unit, RTSP and TCP ports are opened on his router, everything else is connecting fine but still no pictures on connection. Has anyone found a better player to use on these or am I just fighting a lost cause with Blackberries? Oh and now he wants to be able to use it with a Blackberry tablet I swear RIM do it on purpose. Oh yeah he's using a Dahua standalone (Zeus)
-
Yep, I thought that might be the response I got. *shakes a fist at RIM*

I'd imagine the first surveillance happened when the Neanderthals were stalked by Cro-Magnon man about 43,000 to 24,000 years ago. The Neanderthals were compassionate, intelligent hominids who cared for their frail kinfolk unlike the brutal and stupid Cro-Magnon man. The brutal Cro-Magnons exterminated the compassionate Neanderthals. This scenario was all fully explained by Charles Darwin. Survival of the better adapted. What does that say about the future of Homo sapien sapiens? Actually learned something new there, I was always more into physics. Although you are giving me something of an xman films vibe there If the Pelco protocols are simply Pelco's arrangement of commands over the Manchester Code, then perhaps there is still a chance that new protocols will emerge. With the boom in PTZs, I can imagine the possibility of a new, more rational approach to the problem of keyboard commands. Although, granted, it's not likely. Pelco is the dominant player certainly, but we know there are many other manufacturers who refuse to dance to Pelco's tune. (That's why Pelco invented the translator board.) I can certainly see the casino industry being a major contributor considering the needs of a casino plus the revenue they generate. I'm afraid I'm lacking in some of the fundamentals required for the codes themselves however. Think I'll crack out the notepad and pen. -
Portsmouth, down on the south coast. It's cramped but it's home

The Manchester Code seems to shadow the entire PTZ language realm. As an analogy, I understood that the Code functioned like DOS in a PC: as an underlying basic language? If that is true, then the chassis camera communications were established on top of the Manchester Code? If this is true, then did Pelco simply establish a set of awkward commands through the Manchester Code? And then, presumably, because Pelco had some influence on the market, the Pelco protocols assumed a dominant position with the PTZ realm, and this dominance was then picked up and used by other manufacturers as a defacto industry standard? N.B. I am not expecting anyone to answer this. Just thinking aloud. I would imagine their dominance in the casino market forced other equipment control and head end manufacturers to use the Pelco protocols I always thought Pelco was simply trying to enforce a kind of unifying standard code, but the attempt failed. -
WD Blues are good little drives, I've always had a soft spot for Western Digital though. One thing I've noticed about those Zeus's and other Dahua DVR's is that they seem to have a tendency to develop errors and HDD faults over time, quite often quicker if they're ona higher resolution/framerate and are overwriting themselves more often. Formatting usually sorts it out though.

Do you know the model number of the DVR in question? Alot of the Dahua models I've noticed have a network page listing the ports you should use.
