Just my 2 cents, I don't mean to offend any either. Most of thesa boxes you all are talking about aren't enterprize style boxes. Would you not want an enterprise type solution in a casino? Being able to set them up in a single or multiple locations and view live image at 30 fps and pull archives from one location?

Tom, What kind of capture card(s) do your analog severs use and what are the frame rates? What Resolutions? Are frame rates and Resolution controlable per port? Do you use a os drive and a separate storage drive? How many storage drives and what sizes are compatable? Do you threadimages acroos the drives ( meaning stored archives go to the drive with the most space firts or is it a contiouos filing system under one directory per port? What is max days of storage on a fully loaded(flagship) DVR? Are they raid compatable?

Does this line of dvr have any type of remote monitoring / Health Status software? (other than email) Can a Certified GE FACTORY reseller's tech open and repair the box without sending it to GE?

Is the os for the unit on a chip or on the HDs?

None of Low cost wireless include directional antennas. If your going that route you need the anteenas to make it work. The mid to high end wireless stuff has the antenna built right into it.

Take a look at this one. I have used it and they work very well. they run about $250 ea. You'd use one on each and of a single cat 5 cable in your situation. You might also look up Nitek. http://www.nvt.com/products/NV_413A.html -
These are probably overkill, but better safe than sorry. I've been through a ton of these set ups and on the low end this is what we've stuck to. http://www.microcameras.com/video_transmitters/TD_241800_video_transmitter.htm http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/hg2414d.php

If you haven't made you mind up yet this set up below works well. It is currently in use in over 400 C-stores on the east coast. Wireless pendant transmitts to dvr, and dvr alrms NOC. NOC calls store to confirm issue, then dispatches. What is you application, meaning building, for yourself, for a client? Will you need a hybrid system analog and IP both? Or just analog? The reason I ask is because Video insight is a relitivly low cost computer based dvr (probably a little less than the 2 in your post), and is easy to install and use. It's a flexible system. Tom care to chime in?

Ge Doesn't have a very user friendly GIU. 20 people can view live images at one time, but only one user at a time can view achives.

Any opinions of Dedicated Micros, digital sprites?

You hard drive failure rate can be decreased by the way the way the MFG provides their installation space and cooling for the drives. I don't care what drive brand you use you will have failures over time. They are constantly being written over. -

I(we) are a March Networks CSP. You ( and you Techs)are required to be trained in order to handle treir products. They run a tight ship. They're DVRs are ROCK SOLID. They also offer advanced replacement. That's not easy to find in the industry especially with everyone moving to a PC based system and OS. March's OS is embedded. So in the event of a harddrive failure all is not lost. All configurations can be backed up, and it's a modular design so in the even of a failure you don't have to send it back for repairs. If you Select a good CSP they will have you back up in no time at all. We also Sell GE/Kaletel, Video Insight, SAY, Pelco, and Lensec. The march networks DVR's blow them all away! March's DVRs even go to the extent of telling you yhay it has a problem.
