im installing my new cameras in a few weeks and 3 of them have manual zooms which need to be focused. there are only 3 ways i can think of to do this, 1. get a friend to watch monitor while you adjust knob and shout to each other. 2. plug a portable DVD player into the camera leads. 3. use your phone on the local network but there is a 5 second lag making it tricky. what do other people do?

Ive been pissing about with my Dahua DVR and still cannot get it to work properly, my frustration level is at 100% firstly when i am viewing recorgings over the network cable i can press the snapshot button but i dont know where the images go, and have no idea where to specify the path and i still cannot set up port forwarding for remote viewing, i put in all the details for my modem router from portforward.com and ran their port checker program and it keeps saying that the ports are not open what more can i do? i just want it simple and to work first time and can anyone tell me why i have spent a fortune on a **** quality analogue system when you can buy a mini HD recorder with much better quality for $50

thanks for the advice, i can say that i have just got my remote viewing on my phone to work, i had to put the DVR in the DMZ as well as port forwarding, now i just have to turn off the DCHP and assign the DVR permamently and then work out how to view it using a dynamic address as i dont want to type in a new address everyday , i believe there is a way to do this? on the web sevice clicking the camera does nothing but there is no tab for the pop up blocker if that is the cause on pss, i have added my dvr using the search function but still no live pic and when i go to playback and select device it says not logged in? -

well, either im being a spaz or something but i get no live view on the pss software, i have no idea where to select the channels, and when i click on playback all the boxes are empty and i cant find any files like i can on the web service client im perfectly happy to use the web service (as its much simpler and seems to work) but can someone tell me where the pics get saved? -

im confused, are we talking about the web services program or the pss program, because the pss program is just another extra program that i cant be bothered to use i just want it simple and easy, (it tried to ask me for a password to shut it down - so i had to ctrl, alt, delete - i hate stupid stuff like that why cant they make just 1 program that does everything and is easy to navigate yes i have absolutely no patience today as my zone alarm corrupted, wouldnt let me connect to the net and no way to uninstall it easily and it took me 4 hours to finally scrub it. i guess no one can tell me why my ports will not open? -
I brought my Dahua 8 channel DVR a few months ago and have been playing around with it occasionally before I install it in my new place in a few weeks i have 2 cameras connected but they seem to record video continously i have both cameras pointing in my room and im watching the live view on my computer screen and if i sit still the red motion trigger icon dissappears after a few seconds(not triggered) on both views but it still records the vision. when i go into the ENCODE menu and change the type box from REGULAR to MD and save for that channel, when i go back to the menu it is reset back to REGULAR As in future i dont want to watch all days worth of footage to find out if someone has been around, only the motion triggered footage it is also very motion sensitive as when set on '1' the lowest sens it triggers with the slightest movement , - im guessing im going to have to screen out any trees etc. any suggestions, Also I followed a youtube posting on how to view footage on my phone but couldnt get it to work, so if anyone has any other guides that might help?

im not sure what you mean, put in the default 37777 is that what you mean?
-
can anyone tell me, if i buy a DVR with a network connection so i can view over my phone when i am not there, is there any way of saving the footage (not on my DVR) and if i buy a external HDD can it record to that instead of or as well as the internal drive?

can anyone give me advice as to why i cannot get this to work on my phone? every time i try i get a connect to server fail! i put in my current WAN ip address and the 666666 account and password but it will not connect getting very frustrated! i dont know if its cause i get a **** phone signal?
-
is it the IP address that my ISP assigns me as thats dynamic, and i would have to log into modem to find it and change it on my phone everyday. i found this helpful but i still cannot get it to work so when i get my new address i will have to get a static IP, and im guessing a 3G modem/router wont work either
-
i have recieved my new dvr and have got 1 camera and am just playing around with it at the moment, before i install it elsewhere in a couple of months but im still a bit stuck on some of the settings, which mobile phone viewer do people recommend? and which IP address and port number do i use? I guessed it would be my ISP one that my modem/router reports but it cant be as its dynamic and i would have to enter a new ip everytime my modem powers down /reboots? hope im not being to dumb but i dont have time to wade though all the crap on the disk manual also added problem, where i am now the phone signal goes up and down drastically (so it might be a phone network problem if it doesnt connect)

i have just googled cameras and looked at the Aus websites that have came up, all the stuff is the same as on ebay but at double the price or more!

I decided to get one of these Dahua DH-DVR0804LE-A - direct from china in PAL cause people on the forum seem to like them, and hopefully i can run 4 cameras at D1 12Fps? i paid about $50 extra for the HDMI because i thought it might be more future proof (i thought about buying a bluray player but the decent makes dont come with a component output anymore and i have a hi def CRT) so im guessing all newer monitors wont have VGA soon? the dome camera Soundy recommended: CNB VCM-24VF Outdoor Dome anyone know where the PAL versions can be found? and dont they need any IR Leds?
-
lucky you pointed that out, I'm in TAS by the way i thought electronics automatically switched based in the mains frequency? i was interested in one of these but they dont seem to come in PAL versions? Qvis Zeus 8 Channel Security DVR

do you think any of the stuff from here might be any good? http://stores.ebay.com.au/ESS-CCTV/Outdoor-Dome-IR-Camera-/_i.html?_fsub=1908971014&_sid=990469294&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

Yes i am in Aus and thats one reason why i was looking at ebay, i know alot of stuff from there is dodgy (i got a great Trustfire X8 torch from there) i have looked at some aus security sites but they just list the same models on ebay but with a much greater markup (at least in ebay with paypal you can get your money back) (you dont get much choice in Aus) I will keep in mind the low light camera specs ( i was thinking of buying 3 different cameras with same-ish specs so i could compare them) if anyone in Aus knows some good stuff or sites

thanks for that, so 50 fps on D1 should be adequate then? in terms of my phone data i have 1g a month and most of that i dont use but the problem with the email alarm is that my phone doesnt seem to check them automatically very often (even when set on 10 mins) I was thinking of atleast 1 dome cam as people from a few meteres away cant tell which way it it facing the apollo Dvr you recommended is probably a bit too hardcore for me? (as certainly wont need 16 channels) with so many models and specs it seems it really is buy and see what you get then I will definately get a system as i have already fallen out with the neighbours and i dont even live there yet! (and i know they go on my property) here are a few i'm concidering DVRs http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4CH-D1-H-264-HD-CIF-Standalone-DVR-Recorder-CCTV-Camera-Surveillance-8104-/250906513626?pt=AU_Security_Equipment&hash=item3a6b3190da http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/8-CH-CHANNEL-H-264-CCTV-REAL-TIME-DVR-IPHONE-w-1TB-HD-/120711886586?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1afd36fa and cameras, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Waterproof-Sony-600TVL-CCD-4-9mm-Varifocal-Lens-72-LED-IR-CCTV-Security-Camera-/400238372716?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d3010e76c http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sony-600TVL-CCD-2-8-12mm-lens-72-IR-Outdoor-CCTV-Camera-/180715297488?pt=UK_CCTV&hash=item2a13789ad0 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sony-600TVL-4-9MM-CCD-Outdoor-CCTV-Dome-Vandal-Proof-Camera-/110771706552?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19ca821ab8 What ever i get in a couple of months i will try to post on my experience, good, bad etc, perhaps some pics
-
Well to be more specific, Im looking to spend around $500 probably with 3 cameras, and i figure that instead of buying a 4 channel i can get an 8 channel for not much more but greater bandwidth split between the D1 channels, obviously i want the best pic quality for the price so cameras probably 600 line sony ccd? and 1 with a variable zoom so i can frame the driveway correctly, and store the footage on a hidden HDD aswell, but the viewing on my phone is the biggest mystery, is there an app so you can save the footage on your phone, or an online storage bank? I was also thinking of purchasing a cheaper version of the GSM alarm i previously brought so that when someone walks infront of the PIR it sends me an instant SMS so i know when to view the camera footage over the net? hope this helps
-
I dont mean to be rude but I get the feeling i'm wasting my time on this forum as im looking for information on what equipment is good or bad and things it is capable of, not just generic answers where respondents either cant be bothered or dont actually know. obviously i would buy a DVR with a network connection
-
Hello, does anyone have any experience with one of these? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/120865873306?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648 you can also buy them with a HHD fitted but im also wondering if i use a USB external HDD it would be more secure as you can locate it somewhere hidden (most thiefs would probably just pull all the cables out and not realise that a USB cable is going to another HHD and not your computer etc?)
-
Hello, Im new to this home security thing and as I am moving to the semi-country in a few months I think I will need some sort of home protection I tried that SMS/MMS thing that i posted about, but it was a failure, so now im wondering about a cheap DVR system like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4CH-D1-H-264-HD-CIF-Standalone-DVR-Recorder-CCTV-Camera-Surveillance-8104-/250906513626?pt=AU_Security_Equipment&hash=item3a6b3190da Ideally i want 2 cameras with decent resolution so the one above says D1 @ 50fps, so does that mean i can run 2 cameras at D1/ 25 fps? also would some 540/600 line cameras be suitable? thanks,
-
the same unit is for sale by lots of different vendors, and mostly including HDD, some sellers in the states too, for a camera, do i really need a adjustable zoom to frame the area more precisely? and will 500 or 600 lines be ok?
-
driveway is about 80m and power will run from the road to the house underground, but i want to see who comes to the house, do basically 5m infront of house I have managed to send my alarm system back and they are going to refund money (good thing about paypal and negative feedback) I dont think the problem is a license thing more of a technology thing, as people i am in contact with and have same unit think its a CSD packet data problem. there seems to be a huge gap in the market between SMS alarms and network connection DVRs as i want a picture of who triggers the camera remotely, not only stored on a hard drive ready to be stolen.
-
Hello everyone, I just found this forum yesterday and thought someone might be able to help me out with some info I have a house with a long driveway and i wanted to be alerted when someone drives down to the house so i purchased one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/220897145387?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 the unit is surposed to take a pic from the camera when motion is detected and send an MMS pic to your phone, only I and other people from various countries cannot get the MMS to work but it does send an SMS when the camera or any door sensor is triggered and it does store a pic on the SD card. One thing that is different though is the unit i was sent is not the unit shown in the advertisement (mine and other peoples) only say on the unit "GSM" alarm system, not mention of MMS or even DVR where as the unit from here : http://www.dinodirect.com/security-wireless-alarm-system-dvr-home-gsm-sms-mms-function-m9.html?cur=AUD&AFFID=97&utm_source=myshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Security+Systems+and+Surveillance&utm_term=DVR+Home+Security+Wireless+Alarm+System+with+GSM+SMS+MMS+Functio the reviews say that it records 90 seconds of video, where as mine makes no mention of this - perhaps the one i was sent was a imitation of a cheap chinese product? so if anyone has one of these and can help me out it would be appreciated, I also i was looking at a DVR alarm and perhaps a decent 600 line camera that connects to the net but I am at a loss to know when you are alerted via your mobile phone as emails dont seem to reach my phone in any timely manner where as an SMS is almost instant. so i can watch footage from the camera on the net but how do i know when to do so and i cant save it on my phone? I.e. DVRs might be great but any burgular with a brain is going to steal that too hope i havent deluged you with too much information
