Does anyone know if ffmpeg is compatible with capture cards? Right now, we have a capture card installed on a PC, which has 16 analog connections for cameras. We are currently using Windows Media Encoder to record and broadcast. Because its Windows Media Encoder though, the files are saved as .wmv and we would like to have them be .mp4 or .3gp, without the extra step of converting them. So we were looking into seeing if ffmpeg can use the capture card to make something else other than .wmv. Is this even possible? I can't find anything about this, and I thought I would see if anyone here was familiar with ffmpeg before I spend the next 3 weeks learning new software + server side stuff.

How to record an RTSP stream
justaquestion posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hey guys, what software do you recommend for recording an IP camera RTSP stream? I found one called NetTransport, which works pretty good, but its not free, and I was looking for something a little more open sourced. -
How to record an RTSP stream

How do I record with it? I couldn't find anything online about recording an RTSP stream. -
Okay, I was thinking that instead of having 4 separate streams for 4 separate cameras, it would be cool to have 1 stream for 4 separate cameras... I have kinda sorta achieved this by connecting my video out into one of my inputs. However it isn't quite the way I pictured it in my head. I drew an example of what I meant... So basically I have my 4 cameras there, and by using A5 to record, I can capture all 4 cameras into one stream, instead of 4 of their own. Is this even possible?

Yes

Not quite.. I am using a 8 channel right now, which I have 4 cameras hooked up to, and I just wanted to record those 4 cameras on 1 single stream. So, there's still 4 cameras plugged in, but when I hit record, I want to have 1 picture with 4 cameras on it. They will be smaller though, yep.

Here at work we are using Hikvision Stream Media Server to stream our DVR across our network. When I view the rtsp address in VLC, it works fine. When I view the rtsp address in QuickTime, I get audio, but no video. Can anyone shed some insight on why video will not work in QuickTime?

I am looking for a new camera to play around with in the office lab. My boss wants something specific... Looking for good brands, like Axis, Pelco, or Panasonic.. IP Camera audio + sound HD PTZ Small form factor Software developer kit? 3gp or avi output

Here is a link to the rear of the DVD Player. And here is a link to the rear of the DVR. I have to connect the DVD player to the DVR. Sound and Audio have to go through the DVR. We are streaming this DVR, and using VLC Player to view the stream. I can't get the audio to work though. Aside from the stream, even the monitor hooked up to the DVR is producing no sound. I have the Video going from the DVD to the DVR using a BNC adapter in the yellow Video Out slot on the DVD player to Analog 1 on the DVR. This works. I ASSUMED then that I could use the standard RCA cable, to do Audio Out on the DVD Player, to Audio In on the DVR. No audio though. I tried red to Audio In 1, red to LINE IN, but still no audio. I went into the DVR settings and saw "Enable Audio Output" in the 'Live View' tab, enabled it, but still no sound. Help me get audio!

DVD to DVR Video/Audio

Nothing here has a dedicated function, just trying new things. My boss asked me to try it. We have the DVR on the network. Instead of viewing the cameras over the network, we want to view a video playing through the DVD player with audio and video. Not sure if that answers your question? -
EDIT: New question... I am getting an exception on my DVR from "Video output standard mismatch". Is this just a difference in resolution from my cam and DVR? Hi everyone... I am writing to you because I just started a new R&D job with a company, and I will be playing a lot with DVR's, Networks, Cameras. I am still getting exposed to everything but have learned a lot over the last week playing with this stuff. Using a Hikvision 9100 DVR, network, and IP cam, I am trying to make a switch that will activate the alarm on the DVR to start recording. I have the IP camera set up as analog right now, and the switch I made is activating my alarm system. My problem is that I can not for the life of me get the alarm to activate the recording. I don't know if maybe its the DVR's hardware or what.... The settings seem pretty straight forward but its not working. Video is streaming, both on my DVR monitor, and over the network. Switch is hooked up to G and alarm input 1. When I trip the switch, the alarm goes off, warnings pop up on my screen... So I know that is working, it just won't record... I can only get a recording when I manually hit record, but I want it to record when the alarm activates. Iv been researching this for 2 work days, and can't figure it out!! Help me!!
