GV800 v3 card in system - how to tell if it takes 8 or 16
vf702 replied to ft_cctv's topic in Geovision
There is an indicator on the box it comes with. You can also check the card. If you look at the picture of the capture card, there is a pink "16 port" sticker on the lower right corner of the top card and one almost directly below it on the PCI-E card. This one is a 16 port card. The 8 port cards have a sticker with "8 port". The 8 port cards look similar, in that they also have the blue and black port in front, however adding another dongle will not make an 8 port card turn into a 16 port card. It is probably cheaper to mass manufacture all of their cards the same with a few chips added or removed to make the different models. -
I am not sure if this is what you are referring to, but a few years back I had heard about a box camera with built in PTZ, it was a high res camera with digital zoom that would zoom in on motion. The downside was that when it zoomed, it digitally zoomeed into a small section of the picture and magnified it. The video out would only be the part that was magnified, and the resolution would be reduced based on the percentage of image that was expanded. It was much less practical than zooming in on a DVR image. I have not heard anything about them since...must not have caught on very well.

Does anyone know of a good, portable DVR system? I need a battery powered DVR that is small and light enough to carry for an extended period of time with an RCA input.

If there is already a fiber backbone, then you are very fortunate. Not very many municipalities are willing to make the investment yet.
-
This isn't an answer you are looking for, but what type of connectivity solution will you use? Wireless, commercial broadband, fiber, etc?

I'm surprised that there aren't any other images that have gone public. After all, it is the Pentagon, you would think that they would have everything cam'd up.

Has anyone worked with the GV-MINI DVR System?http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/solution/GV-MiniDVR_Spec.htm I'm looking for any feedback on those units versus self building compact units.

I'm surprised that Esentia does not have them on some of their other sites yet.

The Dell 1100's are pretty stripped down. They have three PCI slots inside and generally run with onboard graphics. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim1100/EN/SM/techov.htm#wp1043338 You could use a PCI video card like the ATI Radeon 9250 (256MB PCI version runs about $80) it should be able to run one of the mid-range geo cards. I have been able to run GV-650-8's off of upgraded Dimension 3000's without a problem. If you have the money you may want to do it right from the start and go to a better computer. You could get one of the hybrid cards. It all depends on your needs. check out this link for a good example of frames per second http://palmvid.com/templates/fpsdemo/frv.html Geo has the ability to "smart record" and record on motion. This prioritizes recording on the active cameras, making the 240 and 480 fps cards overkill for almost any application unless real time recording is regulated. GV-250 - 20 frames per second (spread amongst all cameras) GV-600 - 30 fps GV-650 - 60 fps GV-800 - 120 fps GV-1120 - 1120 fps (combo card that also has an RCA video out for CCTV monitor) GV-900 - 240 fps GV-1240 - 240 fps (combo card) GV-1000 - 480 fps GV-1480 - 480 fps (combo card) As far as where to purchase. I believe that it is against forum rules to post links to anywhere that sells below retail pricing, so I can't link to where I have purchased from. Geo has a listing of sites here http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/7_0.asp. A good google search will locate many other stores. Be careful to check for any complaints filed with the BBB before you send your money anywhere and don't buy anything that is "like geovision, geovision OEM", anything with pricing grossly below other sites, or almost anything you find on ebay. Ebay is filled with fraudulant cards that won't work.

It would be cool to see a screen shot once you have it fired up. I have used two on my personal computer for a while and love it, but haven't tried it yet on a geo system.

Just curious, how are you going to utilize the 3 monitors plus the CCTV monitor?

On that note, around here most gas stations are prepay for all of the outer pumps and only the ones easily seen by the cashier can pump before paying. The cashiers just use scratch paper to log the cars. Not to say that this isn't prone to occassional errors, but what project involving humans insn't. Video cameras work at a redundant system to confirm the identities of the drive-offs.

ADI http://www.adilink.com/ generally has a large selection in stock. They cater to low voltage installers. Sacramento 709 W Del Paso Rd Sacramento CA 95834 United States of America , Region: 01 916-929-8700 916-921-9102 ADI-Sacramento@adi-dist.com -
$230.00 for an unsupported, unreliable, illegal item or $600.00 for the real thing...If you are going to stand by your product/install for more than a month, there's no real debate.

I'm a bit confused looking at the Reg. 9 Output DC Multiple Output Power Supply you linked to. I see that they use the same image for all of their regulated power supplies, with poor descriptions on the pages. It may help if you link the specific cameras you purchased or scan and post the spec sheets that came with the cameras and power supply. Just to clarify, are the red ovals on all of the cameras or just some of them? If just some of them, are they on just one brand of camera?

New Video Surveillance System of Production Facility

If you have the time, your answers lie in the previous postings on this forum. There is a specific string that deals with the possibility of recording license plates without a dedicated entry way camera and reviews of many popular DVR cards as well as common problems of each. Happy Reading! -
Good to know, thanks

I use ATI cards. I'm running seven DVRs and have not had too many problems with any of them now that I have gotten over the learning curve.
-
So far, I have only had it happen on a GV-1120-12. The 8.01 upgrade included a firmware upgrade for that card. I can't imagine that it would fix the viewlog software problem, but so far I have not replicated the problem.

I encountered the same problem with v8.0. I did find that when I played backwards it worked fine, but forward play looped for that half second. I thought at first that I had hit the play from A->B function, but couldn't get it to quit. I upgraded to v8.1 last night and haven't seen the problem yet. I also found that when I upgraded to v8.1 on a GV-650( with a DSP, the DSP output was horrible. It looked fine before the upgrade, but after it was really bad.

I had the same problem with one camera on a GV system. I had camera run via NVT baluns and could see moving video behind the no video icon. I switched the one camera to an active receiver from a passive one. It seems to have fixed the problem. I haven't been able to figure out why the other three identical cameras running over the same UTP have been fine with a passive transceiver.
