If your cable runs are going to be less than one hundred feet long, I would strongly consider using RG59 instead of CAT5. The cabling and connector costs will be substantially less than CAT5 with baluns. The exception would be if you are using IP cameras in which case you could use POE or just run a separate 18/2 line to each camera.

Do you have a clear line of site from the camera location to the recording location and what is the distance between the two?

I have not used that type of DVR, however most have a recycle setting that will allow new video to write over the old unwanted video. I was unable to find much information online at http://www.eyemaxdvr.com/scripts/dv9120.asp. If the recycle option does not solve the problem you may have to send an e-mail to them. sales@telpix.com

The hindsite suggestion is to research before purchasing anything from a distributor that you do not know and trust. I have received very quick responses from sales@geovision.com.tw when I have checked on the legitimacy of distributors of competatively priced Geo cards. As far as illegitimate suppliers, the Better Business Bureau accepts business transaction complaints. Ultimately, if it sounds too good to be true....aka Ebay, then it probably is. Do your homework, or avoid the risk altogether.

With Geo's remote viewer, you can change the image sizes 640x480 or 320x240. The smaller image sizes greatly reduces network traffic.

You may wish to consider mouting a second or third battery in the trunk and having the wiring draw off of that power source. You would have to find a way to charge the batteries, but your car would still start when you needed it.

I think that all of their cards are switching to blue. It may have to do with the RoHS standard.

Does anyone have a good idea of what a used mux would go for? I have four or five Pelco MX4016CDs being underutilized.

It would really be nice if someone had access to different types of cameras vewing the same object all run to the same DVR, or a number of the same cameras to run to different DVR's. That way you could really compare and contrast image quality and record quality.

When we've been remote viewing some from one DVR and some from another, sometimes we have to hit the play button below the video to get it going. I have not experienced that off a single DVR though.

Depending on the quality you need, the remote viewer may be a less expensive option. (if you have an extra networked PC in that area)

I have stayed away from the 300's, I heard that they had a problem with overheating.

Can you tape off the front section that flashes in the direction the camera looks? The strobe would still be visible flashing out to each side and back, but not to the front.

They could be authentic geovision cards.....or they could be fake. Buyer beware on Ebay. Geovision specifies that they will not support any cards that are bought on Ebay. There are just way too many frauds out there. If you are going to use Geo, use a good supplier. Once you think that you have a decently priced supplier, e-mail sales@geovision.com.tw to see if the distributor is legit.

I don't have a good wireless answer for you, but does the guard shack have a phone line in it? Many times telco cables are run in six pair strands or larger. If there is available pair, a twisted pair solution may work.

Unfortunately, this business is a perfect target for the cheats. Many sites list high TVL without putting any detailed specs online. To a newbie or anyone of the many people who want a couple of cameras for a hobby or personal use, two substantially different cameras will look comparable. Whichever is less expensive will look like a better deal. Most probably never notice that the camera they got isn’t nearly what they thought that they were getting.

That has been one of my greatest fears using Geo for the past years. Now that Geo doesn't post a list of authorized distributors on their website, I e-mailed USA Vision Systems Inc (as listed on the geo site), but they didn't ever get back to me. Nothing worse than guessing.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but AITech makes some VGA to NTSC converters that connect between a computer and monitor then convert the output to a composite RCA or S-video connection.

Are you sure that it is an E531? I searched dell's tech support and found an E521 which is an AMD based system.
