CCTV Setup with Uninterruptible Power Supply

If you had SD cards in the cameras (or just the cameras that you care about) all you'd really need to plug into the UPS is the switch. It probably uses less juice than the NVR.

    Public view monitor

Viewz has an IP model. It produces a great image and streams well.

    hello from canada

Hey Fellow Herring Choker! I'm a Saint Johner originally - now in Hamilton.
  4. I'm doing a lot of commercial work now but when I did residential phones and alarms I had a few tricks: -It depends on the house but I've run it though a closet and just stapled it into the front corner (not the back or you can see it). -You can drill a tiny hole at the edge of a wall and poke a thin wire through so that you can find it on the other floor then move over an inch or so and drill up/down through the sill plate. This works best with a noodle and flexible magnet but you can poke around with a fibreglass rod til it goes. (I call it the drunken sex problem - poke, poke, poke, ahhhh!) -Sometimes you can use the holes from the plumbing stack (if they've left lots of room around it). -Had to add this tip from a customer - take a few 2' strands of wire (22 gauge at the time) and poke them through the pulling hole of the glass rod so that you have feelers and poke that end through. Feel around with your fingers in the hole or watch while someone turns the other end and grab a wire with pliers. I've used this a hundred times. I can't recommend it enough to have 18' of fibreglass rods (I prefer the cheaper thin ones from ADI)
  5. I don't know if you've tried out those new Axis cams with 'lightfinder' (e.g. 1604E). That's some amazing shtuff - no IRs and it does night shots in colour. I've installed dozens of these and the images are great. Does anyone know of another manufacturer that has this tech?
  6. can u post a pic of what you're working on and what you want to accomplish?

I´m getting confused in finding a system

i'd run Cat5 or 6 with a PoE switch at the main house and PoE injectors or hardwire the power on 18/2 wire for the remote cameras. Are the buildings networked to each other?

    Hosted video

Will he settle for remote access to the system? Why send all the video out when he can just choose to view what he wants?

    IP cameras & DVR

If you set up an NVR you could get an 4+ channel encoder and convert your analogue to digital.
  10. You could give these guys a try if you want something out of the box: Brian Donnelly Axis was recommending them at the last partner summit I attended.
  11. Wow, that seems weird. I've got all kinds of clients running Aimetis on the NVR (there are cheaper products but I haven't used them) and they have the Aimetis mobile bridge. The licenses are $99 per cam and $150 for the bridge but there's no monthly. There are several free camera viewers out there too but the Aimetis solution works well and it's not crazy expensive.

    video decoders

Why convert it to analogue? Just install a cheap PC as the NVR and connect to it via the network.

    Axis poe ?

Most security installs include multipple cameras and run off of a multi-port PoE switch so Axis doesn't include the low-power PoE injectors and charge less for these cameras. If it's just one camera you don't need to buy an Axis PoE you could buy a cheapo from someone else for $10-15.

[HELP] How to Hire Commission Based Workers

Man you are making this harder than it needs to be. I've had all kinds of sales gigs and typically you get some kind of written agreement where you say I will pay X% for all business generated by Kim (for a names sake) who is an independent contractor and to whom you owe no compensation for her time. Then let her rip it up. If she sells the hell out of it then worry about lawyers and structures. She has some more liability as a private contractor with insurance and taxes but that isn't your problem.

    Please Help--Spectra Mounting Issue

It's prolly too late but you could have just used a patio block or two (they actually make a mount for this). Use a lil PL premium and a piece of wood glued to the block and then mount to the wood.

    Network of installers

You could try contacting your suppliers. e.g. If you're using Axis cameras get a list of their highest rated installation companies (like ours).
  17. You don't need to wire over the gate, instead just get a flush mount plunger that goes into the post (like the one on your car or fridge).
