GV 1480 and camera video lines (resolution)

Ok, then what compression or file format would give me the best quality image?

Did you mean to say the H264 is the highest Quality compression? Or that it can compress the most? I have the 8.0 software, fyi. Thanks!

    Coax, Cat5 or wire....

Thanks for your interest. Right now I am using some no-name IR bullet cameras, which are just ok. I would like to switch to a higher quality camera and enclosure to monitor my driveway. Though we live in a good area, we've had some weird incidents. Like 10 pumpkins stolen from right in front of our windows. Or fish being thrown onto our walk. I don't want to make our house feel like a gas station but I don't really know enough or trust a bullet camera to be of great quality, so may switch to the camera/enclosure. I want to make out faces, license plates hopefully, at least car style and make. My camera can barely make out a plate in broad daylight. I saw some cameras and dealer I like. The camera is Ganz YCH-03A or ZC-NH258N. Both day night and 540 lines. Or possibly a Pelco CC3751H2, but more money. So hard to know what you're getting into by just looking at a name or spec. though. I have a Geovision 1480 capture card so I can place more cameras around the outside and parts of the inside eventuually.

Yes, they are anaolog. Thank you for repsonding!
  6. Running some cameras that go from 50 feet to 100 feet tops inside a house. What's the best choice in order for quality and also economy? Are there significant differences between balun manufacturers?
  7. I have a 1480 and I am planning on upgrading some cameras in my home outside surveillance system. Cameras have different lines of resoultion like 520, 480, etc as you know. (and I know resolution is the improper term here) What I need to know is if I get a 520 line camera will there be any difference in recording quality when using the highest quality compression codec (I believe somebody said MPEG4 was) versus a 480 line camera?

    Remote viewing problems

Got the Remote Viewer program to work. Windows firewall wasn't disabled on server. Still having problems logging through the IE web method though.

    Remote viewing problems

ok, ports 80, 4550, and 5550 all connect. However, port 3550 doesn't. Firewalls are off as far as I can tell. Any other ideas? Also, I can go to the IP of the server PC using IE, and it asks for user and password. I enter Supervisor and my password, hit eneter and then it just sits there at the login doing nothing as if locked up. Windows reports after a while that the program is not responding. Any ideas?

    Remote viewing problems

I cannot seem to get the remote view program to log onto the server PC. The two PCs are inside my house, and share the same router. Both are XP Pro. The server is running the Remote Viewer server program. Is there a standard guide to setting up the parameters, logins, passwords, etc. Also, I tried connecting to the PC running the Geovision software (vesrion 8 btw) and it prompts me for connection speed and compression type and it hangs up IE browser when i enter the user/password info. Help would be very appreciated as the manual is light on info. Rob

    Anyone use this card?

Looking at the Avermedia cards now. Thanks for the headsup. They seem to have potential.
  12. http://www.dvr.com/economy_dvr_cards.htm They're called Safeguard. I'm looking to buy a 16 camera input DVR card, and seeing the positive reviews of Geovision I will probably go that route, but happened to see this Safeguard one and can't find any info on it. Thanks.
