I'm trying to decide between a standalone NVR and a PC-based system for a 5 camera set-up. Many of the same names are continually recommended. Could anyone tell me how much the Exacq Start and Pro software would be, how much the camera licenses cost, and if the licenses need to be renewed yearly (excluding upgrade fees)?

Another noob here trying to get his home system off the ground. Still in the planning stages. Was looking for a hybrid 8 channel that could be viewed remotely on a Mac. Searching these forums yielded only systems that would destroy a budget (Exacq comes to mind). The Aver EH1008H seemed like a winner until I saw that it was remote viewing via IE only (I'd rather not run bootcamp, etc). Like many others, my thought was to start with 4 analog cameras and then add analog or IP in the future as needs/wants dictate. Apparently Dahua comes recommended by many folks here, but how do I find the rebranded versions in the US? Any advice, recommendations, or gentle criticisms would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
