  1. Why would it specifically use IE? That doesn't make any sense what so ever! I guess if it uses an active X control to view video via it's web server but this has no barring what so ever on using it's interface to make settings changes. If the cam's webserver requires ActiveX just to make settings changes or it's UI is an actual ActiveX control then that's just HORRIBLE! It's very highly unlikely though... Just watching the video from the camera's webserver requires ActiveX bro! I'd avoid using that browser and try to use firefox IMHO if using recent versions of IE due to it's security feature sets unless you know how to config it properly to avoid issues. Do you know how to place the unit into TFTP recovery mode? That's what you need to do. If you're using windows you need a TFTP server like TFTP32 to upload the firmware into the client. What about "hard reset" procedure? That should involve holding the reset button for a special period of time and sequence. I'm sure all this info is available at the cam vendors website. Best of luck! It sounds like EEPROM failure to me... RMA time! or if you're really savvy and have a flow/hot air station you can probably replace the EEPROM SOIC8 or what ever it uses easily. Just make sure you use the exact same EEPROM chip. It might even be socketed too ehh! I have a Willem programmer for these types of scenarios with various socket adapters. It's saved my ass many times! BTW if you want one of these EEPROM programmer I'd checkout this dude in Vancouver than runs a site called MCU mall. I have the GQ-4X and it's a fantastic programmer with great drivers and software. It's also great for hacking car MCUs for high performance! A lot of devices are no longer socketed so you'd probably need a SOIC8 SMD Programming/Testing Clip or a reflow workstation to remove the EEPROM for flashing or replacement. PS a JTAG is also invaluable for recovering embedded devices and I'd bet if you open up that cam it has a JTAG port on it's PCB!
  2. whats better is something that actually works and does the job. not something that just looks pretty. you are new to the security industry, you will catch on eventually. Can you please share why you have this opinion about Blue Iris and the UBNT cams? Another user here mentioned that Blue Iris ran for MONTHS without even a reboot. Everyone I've spoken to say it's very stable and mature. He will probably not be using any triggers and he doesn't need remote support and the HTTP server is fine for local intranet access. I know it's hardly pro but for around $800 bucks it as least works. You're suggesting it won't work? In what ways please... I don't want to screw my friend in anyway. What is the problem with that setup? Is this sample not good enough quality in your opinion? Focus is slightly off and my own samples are noticeably better in native codec and this is without the Russian ffmpeg optimizations and I'm sure will be incorporated into future firmwares. OTN_z7XTFa4 Please share why you have this opinion about being "just pretty" and "actually works and does the job".
  3. I would assume they have a bootloader with a TFTP client for recovery. This would involve holding the reset button when power on and doing it in a certain sequence. Don't try it unless you know exactly how to place the unit into TFTP recovery mode. I have some experience with embedded system dev and flashing them remotely. A few good tips is to use a static IP on your flashing machine because the DHCP lease could expire during the flash sequence and transmission right! Also disable any firewall and AV software. Also never do it via a wireless link ever! Personally I'd use the camera's webserver to do this unless I have to rollout massive updates to multiple cams. Then I'd use the batch updating tools or what ever the vendor has to do mass firmware rollout/updates. Also if using the cam's webserver I'd make sure you don't have anything like NoScipt loaded or any kind of proxy BS. Also I'd use Firefox and avoid Apple's Safari as it's just BRUTAL. I'd also do MD5 checksums on all bin files before flashing. Hopefully the vendor has a brain and publishes MD5s on their bins etc! I hope that help ya man! One other tip that IMHO as a dev of embedded systems in the past. When you rollout a firmware update I know it's tempting to not do a master reset and lose all your config but guys... DO IT... a lot of the time the ver differences require this to setup all their conf files etc properly. That first run script needs to recreate "stuff" in a way that could be very different than the old version. Also using a backup config created with an older firmware is a big NO NO as a general rule IMHO.
  4. Why would you use Non routable 192.168 .... IP in your example I am confuse It's just a cut and paste from the Wiki bro! I thought it obvious the IPs would be different in a deployment. I guess it should read rtsp://x.x.x.x:554/live/ch00_0 This is the setting in the server for the camera connection parameters not in the camera it's self. You can read RFC 2326 if you like for details on RTSP. http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2326.txt You basically set the NVR/VMS to: Codec H264 RTP over RTSP (TCP) Keep alive type "Default" The connection URI "live/ch00_0" RTSP port 554. If your interested in these VERY CHEAP cameras then checkout the FAQ and Wiki http://wiki.ubnt.com/AirVision_and_AirCam_FAQ#How_to_stream_AirCam_feeds_directly_using_RTSP From my talking to Blue Iris he has a driver for it on his $70 dollar NVR/VMS software and can control cam settings from within his software. I can't see it taking much for other outfits to create one as well.
  5. These really cheap UBNT cameras I'm testing have those features and it's very robust in it's reporting granularity. I thought this would be a standard feature with ACTi and Axis etc no? I'm very curious how camera triggering works with the NVR/VMS backend. Is there a standard for this sorta like OPOS for point of sale peripherals? It seems a specific driver etc built with the API for the cam is needed for the backend to be able to adjust cam parameters and receive trigger meta right? Curious the industry doesn't have some kinda open standard API for this.
  6. Do YOU? Try reading the forums a bit: even for experienced techs' date=' bandwidth and storage calculations are a black art. There are SO many things that affect it, including, but not limited to: framerate, resolution, codec, VERSION of the codec; constant vs. variable bitrates, scene complexity, scene contrast, movement in the scene, constant vs. motion vs. alarm-triggered recording... Now for you to waltz in here and proceed to criticize and belittle someone who's also new to the industry and may not have had to deal with this aspect before, for not knowing it backward and forward already, is presumptuous and arrogant in the extreme. You'd best take a step back, boy.[/quote'] I'm sorry to criticize the guy for not being able calculate bandwidth budget. It was in response to his insults to me. I didn't start it. I can understand storage calculations is a black art when dealing with VBR and triggered storage. Is this not obvious to anyone that understands the underpinning technology? He wasn't asking about storage calculations anyway. He was asking about streams from remote servers coming to a head office etc. I assume they are live and not triggered either. It should be a simple calculation even if it's VBR to get an average bit rate and bandwidth budget. This is really elementary isn't it! As for his responses insulting my suggestions that were just there to try to help... For that I don't know what to say! other than... LAME PS Tomato on an RT-N16 has FANTASTIC QoS features and could really help with what he's doing!
  7. I was lazy to type whole name as "MAC Address" but as u can see other forum members did understand and next time I will be as slow with you as wireguys if I ever talk to you You have gone from PMing me your personal cell phone number to this! Wow! What the heck did I do to warrant this treatment! I'm very very sorry you feel that way. Usually people say MAC all caps. I was quickly scanning the posts as I'm working on other stuff at the same time and I have three monitors so sorry about the confusion. I just wanted to clarify that exacqVision is multi platform.
  8. I guess I should post some samples. Give me a couple hours and I'll get some samples for anyone interested.
  9. Good points guys! BUT They are a $100 bucks each! and with the firmware being opensource one can only expect a third party one that's really tweaked to come out. What I really want to do is rip one apart to get an idea of what embedded solution they are using. I guess it's easier to just SSH into the thing and take a look ehh! UBNT is also going to come out with "pro" models that should be a lot better in terms of interoperability and optics quality. Also from my understanding they are rewriting the NVR/VMS from the ground up and it should be a lot less CPU intensive. Have you guys seen sample footage and the NVR/VMS software in action? Again I'm sorry if I insulted any of you. Please lets move on to CCTV and IT talk! cck4_YoQ3Ac nJs9HgPJnXc UuqVTkUBszs And here is a sample (conversion to VP6 codec would hurt quality so it's even better in person/native H.264 playback) OTN_z7XTFa4 IMHO that's not bad 720p video quality and frame rate for a $100 dollar outdoor rated camera ehh... And here is an iOS app being developed third party for the system. lwtqqsOnB4c Every major NVR/VMS I checked has a "universal" cam driver with RTSP support and here are the details for the channels it supports. 1280x720: rtsp://192.168.1.1:554/live/ch00_0 640x480: rtsp://192.168.1.1:554/live/ch01_0 (ch02 and ch03 removed until future firmware release) 320x240: rtsp://192.168.1.1:554/live/ch02_0 160x120: rtsp://192.168.1.1:554/live/ch03_0
  10. MAC ADDRESS, not Macintosh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_address hahah Thanks funny! I totally misread what you were saying! I'm not familiar at all with the licensing security/anti piracy features of the software so I wasn't thinking MAC when you used the world "Mac". PS usually people say MAC all caps right... funny misread on my part! doh!
  11. uhh... just trying to help you get more upstream bandwidth brother! It will not improve bandwidth but it does offer advanced QoS and many many other features that makes life easier. Plus it's a lot more stable and can handle a lot more concurrency than your average off the shelf router. IF you've never heard of DD-WRT of Tomato then it's fantastic info and advice IMHO. Yes it is an exact science and can be calculated to exact values if using CBR. VBR is a whole other ball of wax. This is a very valid point IMHO and a subject covered in computer class for grade 10 in high school. huh so the same can be said for thewireguys because he's trying to sell off some Arecont cameras? Anyway I'm sorry for upsetting anyone ok! Lets be couth and talk about this stuff in a polite manor. Lets end this right now! I know this is my last post responding to this kind of thing. I'm here to learn and share what I can with others in an attempt to help each other out in this community.
  12. Did you ever think that maybe he hasn't learned this stuff is simply because it hasn't been an issue for him until now? You've been making a LOT of assumptions in ALL your posts in here, and insulting a lot of people based on those assumptions... and yet you're still asking for those same people to help you? Anyone else note the glaring irony in these two sentences? OK lets stop this RIGHT NOW. My snerky response with this dude was due to him saying I'm ripping off whomever I sell the UBNT stuff to. With that being said lets forget about it and I'll try not to respond to this kind of thing in the future. I'm sorry if I've insulted anyone and it was not my intention at all. Lets move on to IP CCTV stuff! This is why we are all here right!
  13. Thank you so much for this informative post. I've learned something. Thanks! PS it's hard for me to believe a suitable IP camera for this purpose doesn't exist
  14. Can you share what these issues are? You don't have to go into details but a basic rundown of some of the issues that crop up would be of great help and be much appreciated by the thread readers and me.
  15. Yep but Exacq is using only Mac that why its easy to hack What do you mean by this? Exacq is multiple platform.
  16. This coming from a guy who thinks he can sell Genetec and Axis to home owners and small business users ROFL pull putting Axis M10 cameras in elevators with UBNT wireless links....WOW " title="Applause" /> What's wrong with using Axis M11s or M10s for home and small business use? I'm not sold on Genetec for this purpose but am leaning towards exacqVision and Avigilon. As for the elevators, what is the best way to go about doing this? I take it there is a flexible conduit that goes up and down with the elevator that you'd use riser rated cat6 with I guess right? An elevator is rather obscure and I'm sorry I don't know how to deploy that stuff YET... But dude... to be doing large scale corp and not even be competent enough to calculate bandwidth is rather pathetic don't you think! BTW please try to be constructive with your posts. Even when I'm insulted by this guy in my thread I came here to actually HELP the guy with advice as best I can. Some of you just say **** to incite and it has nothing to do with helping or educating or informing about product/solutions.
  17. I'm starting to now understand why so many integrators are using Avigilon!
  18. Really. Hmmmm, pawning your mistake on someone else - a friend no less. You're not going to sell him the proper equipment for his environment? You're going to sell him your mistake so you can recover your $800? You're not so high and mighty afterall, are ya.....ehh. Just saying..... rich people and their toys. its not about what the customer wants, or really needs What is wrong with UBNT cameras and Blue Iris! It's a hell of a lot better than those analog cams with embedded DVR solution frame grabbers like that Aver crap or the stuff they sell at Costco etc. $700 bucks for SIX MEGAPIXEL cameras with PoE and injectors is a decent deal for "what it is".
  19. That's exactly one of my concerns. One of my corporate clients has many retail stores and we created a wall of monitors in their office that display real time video from each store, typically 2-4 channels from each location. At any given time they can be pulling in 72+ camera feeds via the Internet. The issue is upload bandwidth at the retail locations. As mentioned before, many have DSL with 350K-500K upload. I was thinking that remote viewing a MP camera would consume all of the bandwidth, or with bandwidth management the framerate from that camera will not be acceptable. Then if someone else connects with their phone, ipad or another computer the impact will be too great and hinder the stores ability to use the Internet. It was a little challenge to manage the bandwidth and get everything working properly with analog. I would see if it's possible for them to switch to a cable internet connection. Generally you get at least DOUBLE the upload speed than you do with DSL. I'd also get them a decent router if they don't have one. An Asus RT-N16 with Tomato or DD-WRT is a MUST IMHO or you would purchase an Enterprise class router for what... five times the price! I can't believe you're installing corporate stuff and appear to not even be able to calculate bps and calculate per minute in your OP. UGG No offense but two months of research and you don't even have a handle on bit rates and bandwidth yet! My tone with you groovyman is somewhat motivated with your suggestions I'm ripping off my friend by dumping those UBNT cameras. PS framerate is a good way to control bandwidth usage and the Avigilon HDSM also look great for this type of problem
  20. Just my 2 cents... Why would he need to open ports for OUT BOUND TRAFFIC (SMTP) ! duh! I'd get a decent router like the Asus RT-N16 and load Tomato USB on it BTW. Use the ISPs SMTP server and you'll have no problems!
  21. Really. Hmmmm, pawning your mistake on someone else - a friend no less. You're not going to sell him the proper equipment for his environment? You're going to sell him your mistake so you can recover your $800? You're not so high and mighty afterall, are ya.....ehh. Just saying..... The reason I'm getting rid of them is the low light performance. Currently he has these Dlink cams from years ago and these would be a step up. He has one Axis at the front counter. There is really nothing wrong with those cameras less the FFmpeg encoder settings and the quality of the optics and considering it's open source I expect them to only improve. They are megapixel and built well for $100 bucks each.
  22. Well I've been looking at cameras and it seems ACTi simply can't be beat on a price/performace ratio. Am I wrong here? They also seem to have sound mechanical design and great feature sets. You get a lot more for your $$$ than Axis that's for sure. Dam I wish I knew about those before ordering that UBNT stuff. I do though have a possible sale for it. A friend that runs a small store. That would be a great cheap solution with Blue Iris and I bet he jumps on it. So I can recover the $800 bucks spent on that stuff. I'm into the customer about $1500 bones on the server box. I'm thinking server seat with channels is gunna be just under a grand for this guy Exacq or Genetek. Now I just need a front entrance cam and two others to cover the yard. What do you guys think of the HDR features some new gen cameras have? Worth it? What do you guys think of the ACTi TCM-1231 ?
  23. *I* don't. I don't work for Camacc/3xLogic. I work with a separate integrator; we just use and sell their systems... among others, of course, but Vigil is the platform of choice for our major customers. He was part of the crowd that hung out at the Underground Onramp Internet Cafe under the Douglas Hotel. Did you ever play Quake there back in the day? That's where the famous MikeJ and worldcraft (tools that made HL for Valve) Ben something developed... I always forget his last name LOL and a bunch of others that went into the game dev business owhh yeah and the PMS female clan featured in Wired. MikeJ lost to thresh for John's Ferrari in Mesquite. Man that was YEARS ago now! Gotta be around 98-99 ish. OMG that's almost FIFTEEN YEARS AGO!
  24. Hey thanks Soundy for the offer and information! I very much appreciate it! Vigil uses what software? The Vigil software is developed in-house by Camacc Systems. No whitebox? Interesting... you guys worked on that in Vic? I have some old friends in dev in vic at ACD from a million years ago. Also Media Magic and some other game dev friends that are now at Rockstar and Valve with whom I haven't touched base with in a million years. Another old friend that did POS... not sure what he's doing now... could be NVR/VMS dev even LOL! It's a bloody small world ehh! Do you guys have a "Beyonder" in the house? Sorry for the other comment I was only needling ya guys ehh Also I should be more formal and colloquial in my language use. Sorry about that...
