Hi Chris, and welcome to the forum. Your right about the specs, its a minefield with some products, with a lot of care being needed to ensure you dont pick a dud product that does not meet your needs. Resolution and Lux level claims especially are often misleading! It would be nice to have a standard test for products to benchmark things against, but I cant imagine all the manufacturers agreeing on a standard somehow. I would love to try out a real broadcast quality camera (pal) to see just how much quality a capture card and drv is capable of recording - broadcast TV quality is so much higher than any cctv cam I have seen yet, but I would imagine so is the price tag....

zoomin in on video that has been exported w/ player
kensplace replied to libertysurveillance's topic in General Digital Discussion
You can use the backup facility in geovision, it backs up the video you choose, and also includes the player you need to view it. The player (same as the viewlog player) allows you to zoom in on the video as you play it back... -
The unit is not subject to bumps/vibration of any kind is it (wobbly table, heavy machinary, in a vehicle, or anything like that)?

Would love to watch it, but dont think its possible in the UK.. Unless its on youtube later if someone records and posts it

One thing to remember with compression, be it h.264 or mpeg whatever, is it can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, product to product how good the final image quality is. There are many settings they can tweak when they set up the compression, just having h.264 is not going to be a definitive guarantee of dvd quality. H.264 can vary greatly in quality depending on just how much compression is used.

Sunlight, Image Sensor Damage

I take it the cams for aligning lasers etc are looking at the beam indirectly, ie the beam is not pointed direct into the camera head on? -
Small Install Advise
kensplace replied to elproducto's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
It looks legit, with a proper box, and cd etc, and it runs version 8.11 so probably is legit. Although, as it is bought on a auction site, you may not be able to get support for it from geo. -
Avermedia Versus Geovision, my personal review.....
kensplace replied to 501's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The latest geo supports the zoom function you describe, both pip and pap mode. Pip mode allows one box, that you move around on a small picture in picture copy of the image, and it zooms in on that box area in the main screen. (keep in mind the examples are just examples made up quickly, with a standard camera, it would I assume be much better with a megapixel cam....) Example (both examples from control center) pap mode allows multiple boxes to be set, so you can have zoomed in areas for multiple areas on a image, ideal for megapixel cams... Example.. Its nice, just wish I had a megapixel cam to play with... Do you need a dongle for support of IP cams? It would be nice if you could try say one IP cam without a dongle, so you can get the feel of what is possible, then splash out if you decide to go further down that route... -

Was it bought online at a auction site? If it was, chances are very high its not the real pico software, as virtually all pico 2000 cards sold at auction are fake using pirated software.

Putting in a brand name of a manufacturer of a product, when they *are* not the manufacturer of that product is in breach of ebay rules. You are only allowed to use a brandname/trademark name of a product if the product is/or is made by that name. Therefore, putting pelco in the title, for a item not made by pelco, is against ebay rules, and misleading.

Im confused, if the area has plenty of lighting, why is there a problem at night? I cant imagine any megapixel camera doing well at night to be honest, without lots of lighting, but not used any megapixel cctv yet, just from experience with normal megapixel cams, they need plenty of light to operate well.

Worked fine on my laptop, 1024x768 resolution tested. Download is reasonable size if you have broadband, did not take to long, and its a good idea for people who are unsure about what sort of features geo offers. Its one thing to look at a spec sheet, but much better to be able to navigate around and see what is actually available, so a good idea...

Driver for SUC110 Ip camera?
kensplace replied to kensplace's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Never mind (unless someone does come across one) I have managed to get it working great. Spent a while downloading some different IP camera software packages, till I found one that worked. Netcamera works, it can view the camera, record the camera, and change settings on the camera, so looks like it could be the actual software that I needed.. Sent a email to the manu asking for a driver, but not heard anything back yet.... Wonder if I can get it to work on geo somehow.... -
There are also a lot of sellers selling 'offical' geovision systems, but geovision themselves state they do not authorise ANY of their resellers to sell their products via ebay... So the warranty and support from geovision will not be honoured...

What is this called?
kensplace replied to Securitymaster's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
There is another I have seen around called SNT DUO (google for that term) they do various ones, two cams + power down one coax, or one cam + power + rs485 down one coax etc. Not used any so not sure what they are like though... -
New Rack / Wall Mountable Solution for Flying Leads
kensplace replied to ezCCTV's topic in Geovision
They look very nice, and quite useful.. I agree the large amount of wires at the back of a geo system can be a pain to manage, and a solution like that is ideal. -

Digital multimeters are cheap now, for the basic ones, or you could go upmarket and get a fluke digital multimeter if you want something really good, to last a long time..
