ebay has a uk seller that sells infra red led's, have a search on ebay see if they have what you need. -
Camera wiring Diagram Wanted
kensplace replied to gothiclimodriver's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I think those are often used with the vcr controllers, manual here http://www.voltek.co.uk/htms/Inst_CT220/index.htm I have a similar one, red would be +12v yellow is video signal black is 0v green PIR sensor output blue audio light level white (not sure what thats for, maybe to switch to day/.night mode?) Check the link, see if its the right one, the above is how I would test it, and how the similar cams I have had have been wired but remember, it may not be that way, so its at your own risk! -
Caught on video and the cops need help

and to add to that - I dont think the police really care - well the people doing the real jobs in the police may do - but the bosses probably dont.... -
Caught on video and the cops need help
kensplace replied to tesfeld's topic in General Digital Discussion
scary aint it, cops not having the ability to deduce how to play files.... and we expect them to play detective and solve crimes. No wonder there are so many unsolved crimes if they cant even figure out something you can google. -
Either the dwarf inside is thirsty, or you need to google the part number for the bit you need - or search google for the model number, or post it here.

What do you think of Intel Mobos?
kensplace replied to rory's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
yikes, your postal service must be expensive! If I was in power in the bahamas, I would pay you a fortune just to not tell people what its really like -
What username did you visit under before then if its been a while since you have been here? Maybe we remember you?

No warranties???? Whats going on, why is that? as for the mobo its about a year old at least (at least the previous owner had it for a year) It will work as a ide sata, but that does not give you the full features of sata such as hot plug or native command queing (ahci mode), I figured if i am going to use it, I may as well use all its features - even if it means hassle installing it -

kensplace replied to rory's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I wish my mobo had come with the raid floppy I had to spend ages looking for a download on intels site, thats the perils of ebay It did come with a manual that mentioned it, thats why I went looking for it though.. Pretty much depends on the board as far as how they support sata goes, all I know is at the moment the benchmarks are much faster on the sata than the ide - BUT like I say, that could be due to the ide sharing the channel with the dvd burner. If I recall ide drives go at the rate of the slowest controller, but never tested that, so will give it a shot in the next day or so to see if having the ide on its own (nothing else on the cable) gets the speed close to the sata. The seagate drive I have is nice and silent, I went for seagate due to the warranty (5 years) - the shop actually gave me a another make (forget which one now) without telling me, but when I got home I noticed, and checked its warranty, only 3 years, so I went back and complained. They gave me a seagate as I originally ordered, but they didnt have the one I wanted in stock so ended up with a one with 16meg cache instead of 8 Same shop just told me that it probably was not a old ide cable causing errors on the burner I just bought from them - but stuck in a new ide cable and the errors stopped -

Sort of, I wanted to have the drive in ahci mode so it fully supported the sata features like command queing (whatever that is) etc, so had to load the driver for it, which happens to be the same as the raid one by the looks of things from intel. Has the positive side effect that I can switch over to raid without re-installing windows or messing around with hacks should I decide to move to raid in the future. The drive did work normally at first, but I decided to reinstall and get the most out of it by using the ahci bios setting (still dont feel too sure about raid yet so sticking with single drives) -
Weird, but then again electronics can be weird. Real life does not always go by the rulebook

What do you think of Intel Mobos?
kensplace replied to rory's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Not used those boards, but I did finally get around to building a second pc to put my geo card in, its using a intel d945pvs board, 2gig ram (overkill, but I got it with 2 gig, and it was a good price) and ati radeon x300, processor is p4 3.00 Ghz. Main drive is a seagate baracudda 10 sata 250gig, second is my old 160 gig ide drive. Works great, getting about 20 to 24 fps with 10 cameras on motion detect, much better recording quality than before (but thats probably due to the higher frame rate, less changes in between frames mean the codec can work better). Course geo itself still seems a little 'sluggish' in its user interface, but the recording is fine, much faster than on my old ecs amd system. The board itself is nice, no problems with it yet (but then again only had it a couple of weeks or so) despite being second hand, it looks well built, and works great. Plus it came in a nice box. Shame the software that came with it is a big con, as its mainly demo software thats crippled - so a waste of time installing that.... Its my first sata drive, and once I got past installation difficulties (due to it being the first time, and having a bust floppy drive resulting into having to crawl around in the attic looking for a spare) its great. SATA for me from now on (apart from ide only devices, like dvrs etc) where I have the choice. Sata is faster than IDE, well its a sata 2 drive, but its giving me around 80 meg transfers whereas the ides are around 30 or so. Course, that could be because my ide is also on the same channel as a cd burner, will have to take that off and retest... -
Not sure if this is the problem but if you go into video/audio log and click the settings button (looks like a hammer and screwdriver) there are tabs for which cameras are shown/activated in quad view and multiview, check you have cams ticked on those tabs.
-
The avi files probably wont be 25fps (pal) or 30 fps (ntsc) they will be at whatever frame rate your cams are recording at in geo. When you playback via geo it will adjust the speed to the correct speed, windows media has no idea what speed to play them at so assumes normal frame rates and they come out to fast. I have not seen any geo settings that can change this (other than maybe recording at a higher frame rate), but would be interested if there is one as I get the same thing.

simplex, duplex, triplex, pentaplex....
kensplace replied to ironstick's topic in General Digital Discussion
Basically refers to how well the dvr can multitask, ie perform different jobs at once. Simplex only allows one at a time, ie you can record, but cant play back until you stop recording. Duplex allows both recording and playing back at the same time. Triplex is three things, often record, playback and something else (be it remote view or enhancement or something else), pentaplex is top end, with record, playback, and numerous remote options usually (depends on the actuall dvr what is implemeneted) -
been using motherboard monitor for years, download here http://www.3degs.net/index.php?page=webfile&dsn1=nav_webfiles&file=9 it allows emailing and ftping of alarms/alerts, logs temps, fan speeds and even psu voltages over time. Never had any problems with it yet.

It should not make any difference if the bnc's on a geo octopus cable touch, if you measure the resistance between the outer earths on two spare bncs when plugged in you will see they are all directly shorted together anyways.....

Dont know your setup, but I find it hard to imagine any home setup that would not drive you insane with constant emails/notifications of movement that were not real alarms - especially perimeter cameras. A locked room, that no one should enter, or a locked house, where any movement is always a alarm (apart from falling objects due to vibration or whatever) is one thing, but outside cams will give you a headache..... As for cams, many cctv cams, even ones costing hundreds of dollars are useless. Honest, many cams are rubbish. Only way to know for sure is either to experiment and buy many different ones + different lenses, lighting etc, or spend a lot and get a really really good one (even then, price is no guarentee of quality), which even then may give a bad a pic as a cheap one if you dont know how to set it up. If you enjoy learning, get a few on ebay, see what you need, and upgrade as required, but if you need a good result now then consider finding a good pro and paying them to save you the money as they have already made the mistakes... Another thing to remember, regarding price, often the cheaper stuff may work great for one person, but not the next, as quality control may not always be the same quality for a cheap cam as a more expensive one. But - that does not mean cheap cams cant be good - my two best cams are a cheepo black and white outdoor cam, and a very expensive colour cam. The price difference is in the thousands, but I love both of em...

suggestions for long length cables
kensplace replied to sodagar's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Its not so much the cable (but you do need to listen to the advice given and get cable suitable for burial, or its you business rep that will end up being buried in the long run) its the transmission down that cable that you need to worry about. If you get suitable cable, a 12vdc power supply will never go that distance, no matter what cable you get - you would need to either power locally, or transmit a LOT more than 12v so after the voltage loss 12v finally gets to the camera. Signal wise, you would need a heck of a good amp on your camera end, and ptz wise, either go up the coax route or rs485 but not sure on max distances for standard kit. With distances like that, look into microwave but whatever route you go, it wont be cheap, unless your lucky on ebay -
Any Standard color for cctv metal trunking
kensplace replied to kelvin's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
Never heard of anything like that, but who knows, each country has their own rules and regs, check with your local officials, or buy a copy of the rules/regs to find out to be on the safe side (ie, if you dont know that, then you obviously dont know the other rules that may exist or not....) If someone tells you something like that, always ask them at the time they tell you, where they got that info from. usually they are talking crap, but sometimes, you never know... CCTV in the uk for example is very unregulated (apart from the privacy aspects which are over regulated) - its harder to wire up wiring in your house legally than it is to professionally install cctv in the uk. -
what about rewritable dvds? Get a months worth, or however long you need the backups for and recycle them. Course, its no good if you need them permanantly, or have not got time to spend burning them as they take longer to burn than a standard dvd.

Motion detection with lots of cams may not always drive a cpu to its limits, it depends on the dvr or dvr card. With a geo 1480 for example the chips they use have in-built motion detection, which is why I think geo has now got two seperate motion detection bits (ie standard and advanced). If I recall (its been a while since I read the chip specs) the onboard chip is capable of fully handling the standard geo motion detection. It also explains why the two are seperate, and not one and the same. One they added because it was easy to do, the other they added due to the first not being up to scratch.... As for motion detection, I use it, but I also have a permanently recording backup dvr, as motion detection always seems to be fine, apart from now and again when its not... Hard to figure out why, or to reproduce, but its never perfect for me.

Need info. on used camera, all I have is model number
kensplace replied to VooDooCC's topic in Security Cameras
Got a pic of the camera? Is it a bullet cam, or box cam? If its a bullet, is it this model avc597 ? Google that see if its the same camera and you should get specs for it. If its not, then can you not just open the camera and take a quick look at the inside, should be easy for anyone with a background in electronics to figure out if its mains, 12v dc or 24vac by looking at the board.
