POS connection WITHOUT POS Capture Box

What does a capture box do, not familiar with them. What are you recording onto, you mention a video computer, is it a pc with a capture card? Do the cash registers identify themselves when they send the rs232 data (via some sort of unique id/number?)? Have you got something with 7 serial ports to plug the 7 tills into?
  2. Cant really help much on the monitor front, I always prefer crt for tv/cctv as it just seems to look much better imo. Maybe someone else can help there. Just drooling over the thought of a 64 channel dvr, would love a bit of kit like that, 12tb storage, wow.... I take it they are 30fps per camera, not 30fps total?
  3. Three workstations, is that one person monitoring each workstation? If so with 160 cameras thats over 50 cameras per operator, which is way to many cameras for one person to handle with any degree of control/accurate observation.

    Memory error

Never used a geo card yet, but in general if I got a message like that I would try a number of things. Before doing anything, check you are using hardware as recommended by geo, dont know what the problems are with the non intel boards on certain cards, but there are some, make sure its not something like that first.... Next I would thing I would look at first, as it references memory and the problem from what you say seems to repeatable and very specific (although MS error messages are not exactly renowned for being accurate) I would download a copy of memtest and give the pc's memory a thorough test. Second, check the hard disk for errors, defrag it and scandisk it. Third if it still has problems, try reinstalling the software (although often I would do this step first, but it depends on the circumstances, not familiar with how much of a pain geo would be to reinstall so would do it last first time round...) Would also do a good antivirus scan just for good measure and ensure the pc is not overheating.

    Interesting read.

Just stumbled across this http://www.staffordshire.police.uk/pdfs/CCTV_Policy_and_Procedures_March_2006.pdf Staffordshire police cctv guidelines, loads of interesting stuff, from data protection to evidential issues, control rooms etc. Pretty UK specific, but still lots of info..... Its very long though, but covers quite a lot of ground.

    DigiCam 120

Not familiar with the card, but is there any possiblity your pc could be overheating? Check the fans are all working, and the heatsinks are not clogged solid with dust. Maybe download and run a temperature monitor (motherboard monitor or something similar) to keep an eye on system temps.

Publishing "dealer" pricing on a site?

Price fixing is illegal in many places http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_fixing If stopping someone from purchasing products if they dont sell at a certain price is not price fixing then I dont know what is.....

    GV800 & A Multiplexer

Can you describe a bit more what the problem looks like? I dont get any interference when people use the microwave (but then again the microwave is in another room from the tv) , so not sure what you are describing. Are you getting grainy pic, dark pic, light pic, wavy lines, straight lines, diagonal lines etc, are they moving, what direction etc.. Is it on all cameras, or just certain ones? I run a similar setup, a robot mv96p multiplexer and a pc card (standard hauppage job tv capture) along with a little bbv matrix. Can view the cams on both the tv and the pc.

    GV800 & A Multiplexer

Are the 75 ohm termination switches set wrong the mulitplexer? Look on the back for them.
  11. Never heard the term "b-lined" before, what does it mean?
  12. Never tried this company, but they sell 10 to 12 hour tapes (on long play, which should be 5 to 6 hours standard play) http://www.vt.tv/vhs_cctv_tapes/c/57.html Remember the longer the tape the thinner it is and the more likely it is to wear out faster. It may be worth looking into a dvr or pc based system, that way you would no longer need tapes, and would get much longer recording times.

    optically neutral aperture

No problem, polycarbonate is used in quite a lot of cctv housings/dome covers etc. Just be careful when installing it, leave the protective covers on until the last moment, and if cleaning it remember that even a rough sponge or wipe can scratch it, so be careful when cleaning.
  14. If you want to really show of the quality of the camera I would get the sales rep to take a decent portable TV or cctv monitor. Cameras look better on a real CRT screen than on a laptop.

    optically neutral aperture

Quality Clear perspex or polycarbonate is great stuff, easy to cut, nice and clear and very hard to break when in place. Only problem is it scratches insanely easily. Glass is fine, but easier to smash / cut yourself on, picture frame glass would smash if a small stone was thrown at it, whereas polycarbonate would stay intact, if a little scratched...
  17. I used to have a remote controlled tank when I was little, lent it to a friend, never seen it since. Shame as that thing (from Radioshack, which is no longer in the UK) could climb over almost anything considering it's size... Used to have it controllable by my sinclair zx81 (timex 1000 in the usa) as I wired up a homebuilt relay card to the remote control. Great fun it was
  18. Guess its USA only going by the email not asking for country, just zip/state.

Start your own security business from EBAY your thoughts?

Yup, the ebook must be good, after all the seller is resorting to making 3.99 selling ebooks on ebay, instead of all those riches promised in the auction.... If it worked the seller would not be selling ebooks telling people the secrets.
  20. The main danger (apart from heat, if its way too close to a halogen lamp) occurs when a camera is pointed so its looking at a bright light (like the sun, or high powered lighting) is the ccd sensor getting image burn from the light source. I have played around with a old camera in the past and managed to permenantly damage a ccd in seconds with one very specific light source. If the ccd is exposed to extremely overbright lighting, two things can occur, the first is the ccd area will be exposed to greater than normal heat levels, remember focusing the sun with a magnifying glass when you were little to burn holes in wood or paper? Similar thing with a camera, the lens is a little magnifying glass focused on the ccd. Second is the ccd is overloaded and cant cope. Apart from the sensor itself the ccds often have very thin filters on them, these *may* be liable to damage via overheating. If you see the camera overloading (lines appearing, smearing, totally white washed out pic etc) then the light source is too bright for the ccd and its overloading it. Some light sources may not be bright enough to cause damage straight away, but may burn it out over time, some can cause damage in seconds. Just dont point the camera at anything like the sun, or directly at that lamp to avoid trouble.

    Distorted Video Problems

It sounds like its the lens on the camera, either not focused or not backfocused correctly. What sort of lens is it? If its not a fixed focus lens, or motorized zoom (like on some dome cameras or pan/tilt setups) then it should be adjustable by hand quite easily. Look for adjustment rings on the lens itself, and try turning them till its in focus. If its a motorised lens, then you can adjust its focus via its controller. If its a fixed lens, then the camera will need backfocus adjustments (probably will need them anyways, never harms to do it), this is where you adjust the distance from the cameras ccd sensor to the back of the lens. Search the forum and or google for instructions on backfocusing, its fairly straight forward. The lens could also be the wrong mount, there are two main ones C mount and CS mount. Getting the wrong one for the camera can make pics out of focus. You can get adapters for c to cs mount (or is it the other way, cant remember of hand) but on many cameras you can just adjust the back focus far enough so you dont need to use the adapter. Got a picture of the lens?
  22. A multiplexer is used to allow multiple cameras to be recorded onto one recording device. It itself does not do the recording, it just outputs the multiple cameras in a fast sequence (which may be fixed, or prioritised so cams with motion get more fields). Multiplexers output in full screen to the vcr/dvr/whatever (well to be honest, many actually crop the image slightly, but they wont tell you that in the marketing blurb) and the more cameras connected to a multipexer the slower each cameras frame rate will be (unless you use one with motion detection or alarm input so it gives the one with motion / alarm more priority). A DVR is a digital video recorder, it will do the actual recording of whatever input it gets, many dvrs include there own multiplexer, some single channel dvrs can accept the input from a multiplexer so you can record more than the 1 cam its capable of usually. As all manufacturers offer different functions its impossible to say exactly what the differences are, as many functions are available on some dvr's and some multiplexer (such as quad views, picture in picture, motion detection, alarm inputs/outputs). DVRs often have additional facilities such as remote viewing over the internet, backup facilities. But basically a dvr records, a multiplexer is a building block to allow you to record more on a recording device (it has other uses to, but thats the main one)

    Sprite 2 Network Issues

Unless its critical that you keep recording, I would just unplug the sprite and take it to the tv, sort it out, then take it back and plug back in.

    Problem with Clover C1714DVR

Check in the dvr setup, there should be a option for what to do when motion occurs, probably in the same place you set the motion masks up. It may be set to off. Try the other settings. You may need to do it for each camera.
