Could be lots of reasons, insufficient lighting for the cams could cause it...

back focusing/focus should be done with the iris opened, ie when dark, often people use nuetral density filters to help focus. Is it possible is a reflection of the IR bouncing of the dome/glass? Any chance of those sample pictures?

Should I install outdoor camera under 8 feet high?
kensplace replied to MTV's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You could try some decent quality vandal proof domes, or use a camera inside a vandal proof housing. Mind you, a dome is never really vandal proof, they may withstand a heavy blow, but there is bound to be scratch damage, or they could cover the dome with something etc. -
control center? Not sure of cost though. Rory did a viewer for geovision, not sure of its current status, there is a thread here

If its the style Im thinking of, the big heavy duty monsters that usually sit on top of buildings etc then one socket s is wired direct to the motors, and the other socket is for positioning feedback (via potentiometers). No joy with that number you gave, nothing else on the unit at all? The old style ones used in the UK, sold by molynx/dennard etc didnt use any protocol at the pan/tilt itself, the units were controlled by a 'telemetry' control box, which was itself controlled via rs485 or similiar. The head itself was a dumb unit that required the controller to supply power down the right pair of wires for movement to occur, and the control unit had to read the potientiometers to see when it had moved enough (some didnt even provide feedback on position, just relying on the operator controlling it). Some are 12v, some 24v some 240v... If you have already got it 'moving' then thats the hard part done, just measure different pairs on the other socket to figure out the feedback side of it (if you want, or need to) If you want a proper controller for it, check out http://www.bbvcctv.com/ Their not cheap though, and you would need a controller/receiver (unless you use a pc to control the receiver).

do you have a model number for it?

Ready to Pull My Hair Out...Can't Get Good Day and Night Res
kensplace replied to boatboy63's topic in Security Cameras
You can get IR illuminators that you can place away from the camera. The bugs will get attracted to the illuminator, but its no longer part of the camera, so not a problem. You can get them visisble and invisible, but as they dont have to be placed next to the camera, the fact they are visible is not so important. Only problem is they tend to be pricey. -
Nope. They have been previously warned re advertising on the forum.

Why do you need a power supply for CCTV cameras?
kensplace replied to wax's topic in General Digital Discussion
Cameras wont work without power? Or do you mean specialist power supplies with multiple outputs? Those can save money, make a tidier install, can be safer etc. -
Hi there, Im from uk to (north east).

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Does your playback go funny when the icon is on? Mine did, geo told me - This is because of de-noise function which tries to reduce the noise and video quality in order to make the file size smaller. The icon at the bottom of the corner indicates that you have activated De-noise function. To find it - go to System Configure and select the Camera Record Setting tab. Under Monitor Control section uncheck the Apply Advanced Codec Setting option.

Cant see anyone having any luck with that footage, resolution is low, and the area covered is very large. There just isnt anything to work with....
-
If you want to buy second hand, always ask the seller what the serial on the back of the 1480 card is, and then you can ask geovision if it is a genuine card. Almost all of the time, the seller will refuse to tell you, or make up some excuse why they cant (no number, unreadable, missing, its packed so I cant etc etc) - dont buy in that instance, chances are high its a fake.

Doing the math. Which is more sensitive to visible light?
kensplace replied to DoorMan's topic in Security Cameras
I guess it depends on if the specs are actually accurate in the first place.... -
Strange question of the day: Why coax cable?
kensplace replied to Jeroen1000's topic in Security Cameras
composite video over coax can go quite a fair distance, certainly longer lengths than say s-video is capable of. Lots of installations of CCTV cams have the cams located a long way from the DVR, s-video is not suitable for transmission over long distances, whereas composite over coax is. -
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/7785318.stm Cameras have been installed at a level crossing, to catch drivers putting the trains in danger. LPR cameras. I have not seen them, but may take a look sometime, but I would imagine by cameras they mean two (one for each direction) possibly three so their is a overview. Can you guess the cost? Six Hundred Thousand Pounds. For a few cameras at a level crossing - even buying top end lpr cams, excellent DVR's, wireless transmission or hard wiring the cabling I fail to see how they can justify that price.... The article is not that clear either, it could be that price in total, or it could be PER camera.....

Can you explain what you mean by ds2? Do you mean digital sprite 2 (by dedicated micros) or something else? Plus for what, how many cameras etc, colour, black white, amount of movement on average, quality / recording size etc etc...

Cameras not working at night on 30m+ Cables
kensplace replied to The RAM's topic in General Digital Discussion
Certainly worth a try, if it is voltage drop which it sounds like it is, then locating the power supply closer to the camera will mean a shorter power lead, and less voltage drop. -
Cameras not working at night on 30m+ Cables
kensplace replied to The RAM's topic in General Digital Discussion
Sounds like it could be suffering from voltage drop, do the cams have in built IR led's? If they do, and they try to turn on at night then the cams will try to draw extra current, the extra current will cause the voltage to drop. If the volts drop to much the cams wont work. If it is voltage drop (which it most likely is, as shorter cables work fine) then using a higher amperage power supply wont acheive anything, you would need to use thicker cables to reduce the voltage drop or find some other way to deal with it... -

Are Dedicated Micros right or wrong?
kensplace replied to benhutuk's topic in General Digital Discussion
I remember VCS, didnt they make the VICO product, for transmitting cctv over isdn/phone lines etc. Still got one of those knocking around somewhere, but no idea where the software is for it and bosch does not seem to have it available for download any more. Not that it would be of use to me now in the age of broadband, no need for isdn now... just for nostalgia -
Clearest night vision camera clip from China
kensplace replied to thunderbiz's topic in Security Cameras
Looks like a standard IR cam to me also. 1000nm is infra-red, so Im not sure what you are going on about with all this talk of new technology etc. Does it, or does it not contain a infra red emmiting light source? Its a simple question that is not giving away anything secret... -
I have seen a bad signal on one channel knock out some others on my 1480 system, I have so far only noticed on cams connected via baluns (where one of the wires has a bad connection, or its wired back to front etc) - I think it also happened with a wireless cam once... There is definately some issue though on the 1480 card with channels being able to affect other channels. Not had any problem with reboots though...
