Buellwinkle did a review on this camera with a 12mm lense. A license plate is readable at 90 feet. I have the 4mm. Is it simple math to say 4mm is 1/3 and a license plate should be readable at 1/3 the distance? Where can I find the 12mm version or should buy the varifocal versjon?

Nevermind... Looks like it will support eight but it only has one free license.

Looking to upgrade my NAS. So I might as well kill 2 birds with one stone. I can't seem to find how many cameras this will support at one time. My older QNAP will only do 2 cameras.

It doesn't sound like the nvr will support this on 8 cameras. Without reducing the fps to a painfully slow level I won't be able record at a full 3mp. -

Interesting.. So to simplify this. Would one of you bit rate gurus be so kind to tell me. If I have 8 3mp cameras installed running at max resolution on this nvr. What would be my max bit rate and fps per camera that I could run. Thanks -
Software or Stand alone NVR for Hikvision
pnyxxpress replied to gonzogg's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
It appears that I was incorrect . The client software actually has more camera settings than the camera web interface. One in particular is the day night auto change over. The web interface only provides auto or manual. The client allows you to set the sensitivity of auto feature. -

2 Cameras, no NVR, remote viewing, ddns issues

I figured it out. Geeez what waste of a day. I completely forgot when I got my new internet provider their wireless gateway sucked so I routed to my existing gateway. To make a long story short. I had to forward the port in on both routers. -

The camera won't stream video externally. The camera doesn't respond to a port check. I've even went as far as shutting down my Dahua dvr and used that port. Back tracking a bit. I have a mobile app for my Dahua dvr and it works. But I cannot use a browser to access the Dahua dvr. I know for a fact this was working at one point. Looks like I need to make a call to my ISP and see if they have started blocking http ports. Still doesn't explain why the mobile app works... -

Same error... I must be missing something in the camera config. I have tcp port setup on my Dahua. It seems to be the only port responding externally. I'm not sure what the difference is between a ports tcp and rtsp port. -

I'm trying to get the Hikvision mobile app to see a camera without an NVR. Does the mobile app work without a NVR. All ports are forwarded but no luck viewing. The mobile app keeps getting a connection failed error. I do have an Dahua NVr that is work fine. -

I haven't had time to set my camera up yet. So I'm only providing generitc network information. That said try a lower port number as shockwave mentioned. Its possible the camera doesn't like the higher port numbers. Sounds like you are on the right track. And yes the sub stream port will also need to be unique. Also if the router doesn't have ddns you only need to set it up one camera. It's purpose is to report to the gateway ip address to the no-ip dns every few minutes. You really only need one device doing this. -

Not actually sure how you have everything setup but hopefully this will help. You only need one no-ip.com ddns setup. This should point to your gateway for your home network. On your router/gateway forward the ports to cameras. Each camera should have a unique IP address and port. If you are sharing your camera network with your home network then you will also need to make sure the ports you have chosen are not being used by other devices. ie gaming pc, xbox, or maybe nas. Keep me posted -

I can't seem to find a 12mm in the US. The couple that I found in the US don't sell to the consumers. Buellwinkle where did you buy yours? Thanks, -

Can you name a site that carries them? As I'd prefer the fixed 12mm or 8mm modem than the varifocal. I asked [MOD: Please do not try to defeat the word censor. It's there for a reason.], no luck there. I asked the W r i g h t w o o d, never heard back from them. I also left wrightwood a voice message a few days ago and never heard back. -
Software or Stand alone NVR for Hikvision
pnyxxpress replied to gonzogg's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I got the camera late last night. Not much time to play. The client found the camera on the network and allowed me to change the address. Some settings were not accessible thru the client. I had to use the web interface. Watching a live feed is all I had time for. My laptop is a dual core centreno. It was running about 50% on one core. That's pretty intense for just viewing. NVR will be better choice if you are planning on more than couple of cameras. -

The client software seems to be ok. At least it didn't ask permission to format the HD. I'll have my camera tomorrow evening. I'll try and get my opinion posted in a day or two. -

Software or Stand alone NVR for Hikvision
pnyxxpress replied to gonzogg's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'm jumping on this thread. Just bought this camera. I download the client software. Hoping to play with the features. After installing the software. The first thing attempts to do is format the unused partiton on my windows 7 laptop. I'm not sure I want to attempt this until I know more about what it is doing. I would rather allocate some of the windows partition for recording. Not knowing what the software is doing scares me since the boot sector is on the unformatted partition of the hard drive. At www.networkcameracritic.com you can find a how to article that shows you how to use a nas for the storage. The camera has its own built in nvr client. The article mentions it wants to format the nas but it actually creates metadata base. I still need to know what is doing before proceeding. At some point I will buy a nvr and need to know how much work it will be to recover the hard drive space when move to the nvr. -
Just got my shipment today. I have no video from the cameras. Am I missing something obvious on the DVR setup? Also tried 2 different cables and 2 different cameras. LEDs come on in the dark so it's getting power. Help!
