The QSee DVR is a QT4 series and I am connecting it to a TV that is fairly far away. The TV does not have a VGA input so I used a VGA to HDMI converter/upscaler. Like this one: http://www.pimfg.com/Product-Detail/SB-VGA-HDMI-1
Also due to the distance that the signal is traveling I converted the HDMI to two CAT5 and back to HDMI at the end of the run.
Conecting my laptops VGA out to this whole cable run provides the expected picture on the TV so I feel it is safe to believe that the converter/upscaler and the other cables in the run are working properly.
The DVR is able to output to a localy connected VGA monitor properly so it seems that the VGA port on the DVR is working properly.
When connecting the DVR to the cable run including the converter/upscaler I get a blank screen on the TV. If I restart the DVR the QSee logo will display on the TV (with green lines across the bottom of the screen) and when the logo is done displaying everything goes back to black and stays there.
Tried Connecting the laptop and the DVR through the same cable run to a projector and got the same resluts from both sourses respectivly.
Tried adding an HDMI amplifier but that did not make any difference at all.
Tried changing the VGA output resolutions on the DVR, all resolutions had the same results (However one of the projector seemed to still indicate receiving a resolution of 1280 x 1024, maybe something to do with what the converter/upscaler is doing)
Anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong here? If it is not something to do with settings then it must be something to do with signal. As a secondary solution, anyone know of a inexpensive device that would accept the VGA signal from the DVR and reencode it before it is sent to the converter/upscaler so that it is a signal that the TV/Projector would be able to use?
Thank you for any replies,
