What's the feeling on the quality of the Kalatel Cyber Dome PTZ cameras and the Cyber Scout PT cameras?
-
I've seen Pelco Spectra III cameras used to read license plates well over those distances.
-
I've seen various allusions in the forum to the Kalatel DVRs being "slow." Could someome please explain specifics, and if anyone has first hand knowledge relative to the DVMRe PRO, that would also be appreciated.

Price on Running RG59 Siemese Cable
kdberg replied to rory's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Anyone have a "good" source for RG59U/18-2 siamese cable? Colors would be nice. -
I was under the impression that the pelco dvr's were the most popular choice for enterprise level installations. Certainly brand of choice in the casinos. Believe they are the only US manufacturer of DVRs and Cameras (as opposed to US brands that import electronics). They guarantee 24 hour tech support and 24 hour repair/replace turnaround. I've seen the new DX8000 / 8 camera systems being sold in the retail channel for a bit over $4K.

I played with the DX8000 this week while in Clovis, CA for a class at their HQ. It was hooked up to several different kinds of cameras including the Spectra III. Didn't notice any of the picture tearing that you mention.

I was considering the Kaltel unit for a job and then saw a demo of the Pelco DX8000 this week. Has anyone compared the two systems?

I have installed several Dedicated Micro DS2 installations for customers here in the US in the past. I now have two opportunities that I am not sure how to address: 1. single location requiring 32 cameras and ability for remote viewing over the internet. 2. three locations each requiring 16 cameras and ability for remote viewing over the internet. I know I could just install multiple DS2 units, but requiring the customer to logoff one DS2 on Network Viewer in order to log back on another DS2 would not be acceptable. I purchased a GV800 card to play with, thinking that their SW would be able to provide a GUI which integrated the video from multiple servers. Looking at the GUI packaged with the product, I am severely disappointed. These customers are used to using the DS2 GUI for real time monitoring and searching/displaying through prior days recording. I found using the GV GUI incredibly more cumbersome at best, and the customer would never accept it. Am I missing something? Is there a better GUI for the GV? Is there a better video card product I should be looking at? Or is there a simple DVR or multiple DVR solution I should consider (GUI as good as DS2 and similar price point, i.e. apx $2K USD / 16 cameras).

Customer wants to have a camera that shoots through the glass pane above their strip mall shop front door to watch the parking lot. The door frame is metal and there is a drop ceiling. Was planning on using a day/night camera. Any suggestions on mounting or gotchas I should look out for (like reflection off the glass interior back into the camera lens)?

From what I can see in the online literature for the Kalatel software, it looks like it would definitely solve the problem. Is the DVMRe-PRO being shipped yet?

I was looking at 5.5" and 5.6" TFT monitor kits offered by Super Circuits. Currently I use an HP Media Center Laptop to setup cameras. Getting tired of lugging around and setting up this lugable just for this purpose, hence the interest in the above. Prices are $269 and $329 respectively, with insufficient detail in the catalog to make an intelligent decision. What do other folks use for this purpose, and any specific experience with the Super Circuits units? http://www.supercircuits.com/store/prodinfo.asp?number=MON5TFT3&variation=&aitem=1&mitem=1 http://www.supercircuits.com/store/prodinfo.asp?number=MON5TFT&variation=&aitem=1&mitem=6

Both the SuperCircuits monitors come in kits that include cases. Unfortunately, these are only shown in their printed catalog, not on the web site.

Mounting Camera To View Through Window
kdberg replied to kdberg's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I should have mentioned that the need to mount the camera indoors is a lease restriction issue. -
Which PTZ cameras are fully compatible with the Geovision GV800?

What are the pros and cons of using the various supported operating systems (W2K, XP, Windows Server 2003) for building a geovsion based system (650, 800, etc.)?

Well there are several industrial duty lighting control systems out there that use a low votage i/f if you are willing to pay the cost. For example, see http://www.douglaslightingcontrols.com/Solutions%20&%20Products/Overview%20&%20Design%20Basics/Design%20Information,%20Low-Voltage/basic%20design%20blurb.htm

This unit support an RS-232 connection to the DVR PC for less than 15 meters and RS-485 for greater than 15 meters. Is there any reason not to use a pair of modems on the RS-232 ports instead of dealing with the RS-485 cable? The runs I have to deal with are in the neighborhood of 50 to 100 feet.
-
How about using UTP Cat 5 cable for the EIA-485 connection? It seems to have better specs than required at lower cost than EIA-422 / 485 specific cable.
-
XP Pro is also available in OEM version, so why don't you use that? (I am an authorized MS integrator.)
-
Use an X10 switch as you suggest, but then install an X10 (Leviton) dry contact transmitter on the same branch circuit. e.g. http://www.smarthome.com/4220.html

Will Geovison control the zoom on the Pelco CC1400HZ16 via the MRD1400HZ16 receiver?

Ok, how about the Elmo PTC-200C? Pelco Spectra III?

P4P800, P4P800S, P4p800S-E, P4C800, or P4S800D-E?

Anyone have experience with these? We have a local ADI distributor, so access is convenient.
