    Dahua cameras now at Costco

I'm in Halifax so I'm quite a ways away from the border sadly.

I'd love to order this 3.6mm lense http://www.m12lenses.com/3-6mm-F1-8-Mega-Pixel-CCTV-Board-Lens-p/pt-03618mp.htm but it would cost $36 to ship to Canada I wonder if I email them if they'll throw it in an envelope with a stamp.

For anyone that cares, these cameras are rated to -10C. Last night the temperature here dipped to -21C and my seven cameras operated fine.

Sorry, I should clarify. I'm replacing the whole camera with a 3.6mm model.

Hey Brutus, Was that the 3.6mm lens you swapped out and is that the "port-holing" you mentioned? Still a pretty good image though. The 6mm can be a bit tight for a lot of situations would be nice to find one as good or better than the OEM lens. That is the lens yep. I am going to replace it with a stock 3.6mm here soon.

That would be VERY irritating if your cameras were outside. Way too many false positives.

Caught someone trying to get into our locked vehicles last night using my system http://www.reality-check.ca/threads/322013-My-home-surveillance-system-paid-off-got-video-of-a-thief-last-night

The black corners are because the lens isn't as tall as the stock lens so it sits back a little bit in the housing. The black corners are the housing blocking the corners.

Do you recall which 3.6? I believe there are two on the site. One was $2.10 and the other $2.70. $2.10 I may order the $2.70 one and see if it's better. I find this one is pretty blurry around the outer perimeter compared to the stock 3.6mm lens and the lens sits back further in the camera housing so you can see a slight black edge in the four corners where the lens is seeing the camera housing.

Tried some lenses from DX today. The 2.8mm wouldn't fit. I couldn't screw it down far enough to focus it. I replaced a 6mm with a 3.6mm and it's ok but not as nice as the stock 3.6mm lens.

You guys should takes your gripes about return policies to another thread and leave this to discuss the cameras.

I find the IR halo to be pretty common on these cameras.

I run Blue Iris too, and as much as I want to buy these Dahua camera's, my fear is that they will stop working when temps in a Canadian winter hit -30 Celsius. So airing on the side of caution as I cannot have my system stop working due to cold temps. I'm in Nova Scotia so I'll let you know how the cameras perform. It doesn't get Alberta cold here but we'll see -25C. My plan if they fail at low temps is to add a heat source if need be. I have access to a top notch Electrical Engineer and he said he can fix me up if it's an issue.

What does your NVR consist of a purchased unit or home baked? I run BlueIris on a Windows Server 2008 machine (core i5 @ 3ghz w/8GB RAM) and a 1TB HD.

I run BlueIris with 7 Dahua cameras and I'm quite happy with the setup. I may be in for a surprise when the temps drop this winter though

So it turns out the IR cut filter is a magnetic driven filter. I was able to reset it by waving a neodymium magnet across the front of the camera. Going to see if it behaves itself after this. I am going to order some of the DX lenses you posted though. I have a few of these cameras and I'd like to convert them to wide angle lenses.

buellwinkle, Do you have any other pictures of the internals of the camera? I have one now and the IR filter is having trouble engaging. Do you think it's something I could easily adjust myself if I opened up the camera?
  20. Does anyone know where I can buy small (< 2" square) warning stickers for my windows/doors. Something to let people know video surveillance is in use. eBay seems to have really obnoxious ones that are ridiculously priced.
  21. Ok, so there have been a few break ins in the neighborhood and for piece of mind I'd like to install some cameras. My house is already fully networked (cat5 - can I do POE?) and I own a copy of BlueIris. My camera experience consists of a Trendnet IP422 that I have mounted in our nursery as a baby-cam. I use IP Cam Viewer on our Android devices to view the camera. It works great. I also have an IP Camera at work to monitor our office remotely with a similar setup. Back to the topic at hand. I want to purchase a few outdoor IP Cameras and set them up in BlueIris as a monitoring system for my home. I live in Canada so these cameras will have to be weather proof as it can get down to -30C occasionally in the dead of winter. I would like to keep around a $1500 budget. I have no idea where to begin so I come here asking for any advice you have to offer. Here's how my home is laid out: Front - I believe if I put a PTZ dome camera of some sort on that corner of my house that I have circled, it would give me full coverage of the driveway and the front door area. Rear - This picture is taken from my shed (which I would like to cover as well) looking up at the back of the house (excuse the mess). Each red dot is a doorway that I would like to have coverage
  22. Looks like the Dahua is only good to -10C which is no good to me.
  23. Who sells the Dahua camera? Their site is pretty sparse.
  24. Any thoughts on this camera? http://www.acti.com/product/detail/Fixed_Dome_Camera/ACM-3701 It says it's rated to -20 C It can get colder than that here. Will the camera just quit working or will it be damaged?
  25. http://www.spytown.com/iqinvision-iqa31nx-b5.html Bit pricier than I had expected but would that be a good camera for the front of the house? Any suggestions similar to that?
