Exaq Tech does not give you full control over the Sony-RZ30N. I use thier systems but i had to use a Milstone system to record some existing cameras a custom had.

For this guy working on a budget keep your legacy wire, replace cameras as needed, use a DVR that offers a 3 year warranty and use IR mini domes for any new camera install. the 2.4 camera should work fine. You will get some distortion in the picture but if all you need to do is check in on a loved one than this should work fine.

i have used some Arm Electronics for one of my customers. They seem to be pretty happy with the system but i did have a DVR fail at about 2 years. Since i am a dealer Arm sent me a replacement at not cost. i would search for Bosch Advantage Line products. They also will give you desing help if you contact them. They should be able to give you a certified installer in your area. There are to many variables that need to be addressed to design this system without seeing the site.

Milestone does have an entry level option but it is limited to 16 cameras the last time I purchased it they call it Essentials. For a 300 camera system you need to be certified with them. Getting certified requires their approval and you need to send people to a week long training class that cost a couple thousand dollars each person when you include room and meals. They will only approve you if you can provide proof that you have the technical background in IT to complete an Enterprise class systems. The good news is if you get certified they will design a system of this size at no cost for you. One common mistake for people new to this size system is that you need a camera license per camera with this class VMS. Depending on your level with your vendor you will pay around $100.00 per license. 300 camera license at $100.00 each is $30,000 and this is how a lot of new guys lose money on IP systems. You do not need storage for live view but you would need a window open for each camera and you would web brose into them. If you want multiple cameras to be viewed at the same time on one screen you need some type of control system. All new Axis cameras will hold up to a 32MB SD card. If you are under 16 cameras Axis has a free software that will allow you to control the cameras and store video locally. This is a color camera not an IR system so you need white light to capture plates at night. This is usually a long term goal for campuses. If you followed the distance and angle and it looks like you did then you have another issue. Check voltage to camera. I recomend 24 Volt power supply you can go 28 volt on longer runs. If the camera has been running at low voltage it might be damaged beyond repair. Check connection on coax it should be 1 volt peak to peak If your live image looks good and your recorded image is poor then you most likley have an issue with the recorder. upgrade to this if your recorder is bad. Soundy The great thing about our industry is that it changes all the time and there are always new methods and new equipment to try out. In my experience a PC with a video capture card is usually a lower end PC built with cheaper parts. I am not talking about an IP system that is a VMS running on a server. We just finished up a 64 camera install for a federal building that had a combination of analog cameras on encoders and IP cameras. The whole system is running on Dell servers with a full VMS recording solution. The servers and storage system was close to 100K by itself. This system will do its job. When i go into a 16 camera system that is all analog cameras running back to a PC with a video capture card it is not the technology that has failed it is the fact that someone used a cheap PC. Same thing for a cheap stand alone DVR they are just made from crappy components. An off the shelf PC is not built to run 24/7 and that is why i replace alot of self installed and amature installed systems like this. The first thing I look for in a manufacture is how long they warranty their equipment. If it is not 3 years I do not use it. Arecount is a good example they make a great camera but due to quality control issues in their manufacturing process they have a very high failure rate. I talked to the rep for them two weeks ago. Arecount has made changes to their manufacturing so they will start offering a 3 year warranty in the next couple of months but only on new equipment. A DVR built by a reputable manufacture that has been in CCTV for a long time connected to an analog camera and using RG59/18-2 and a 24 volt power supply does not require any real experience. If you can make BNC connectors you are good. Setting up the recorders settings and selecting the correct cameras is why people like you and me will always have a job because a properly installed system will always require a experienced person. IP system do have a lot of issue that analog does not. If you build a closed network you cut down on the issues but IP system have a lot more parts thus a lot more room for error and failures. We install analog systems for most systems under 32 cameras once you get above 32 cameras IP really is the correct choice.

I started my career in 2000 as an installer for ADT security since then I have sold systems, designed systems, worked as a distributor, and currently I am an account manager for a company that specializes in CCTV, Access Control and Intrusions systems for commercial customers. I am happy to give my advice but no one knows it all so my info is based on my experiances and the systems i have worked on.

IP camera standard for distance is the same as network 330' if you add a switch you can go another 330' MP lenses are much more costly than traditional lenses. The GE products have gone down hill over the past couple of years so I would not use new GE-Interlogic equipment. Analog systems are much easier to install and tend to last much longer. i have some clients with Bosch systems that are 10-15 years old and are still working. I just upgraded a 64 camera install that was still using Bosch VCR's. I see a lot of what I call off brands on this site. If you want a good system that will last for many years go Bosch. I know some people like PC based system but i have been in this industry for 12 years and i replace PC based systems that are less than 2 years old every month. An NVR with video grade hard drives is a different stroy but then you are talking IP. Take a look at the link below use the tools on the website and and use RG59/18-2 wire and keep your 24 volt system. i replace 12v cameras almost as often as i replace PC based systems. You do need to know if your ceilings are plenum. The quick way to figure it out is look at your A/C vents and returns. If there is duct work in the ceiling then you dont need plenum if your ceiling serves as the duct work then you need plenum. Trail cameras work pretty well. you need to get one that has an IR flash. If you buy one with a white light flash Mr. Bad guy is going to see the flash and just take it with him. I would put one on each side of the road and as far apart from each other as you can so if they find one they might not look for a second.

The only way i have ever been able to get into a DVR when i did not know the password was to call the manufacture and give them the serial number off the recorder. Some manufacture have a program that runs on the back of the software that has a rolling code that changes everyday. They can give you the code of the day. I am a dealer and have direct tech support from the manufacture so you might not get any help as a consumer. it does not make for a very safe system if there is a easy back door into programming.

For an installed quality system from a quality company you should spend around $1,000.00 per camera. That estimate includes camera, recorder, monitor, UPS for the DVR, power supply and a lock box for DVR. 16 cameras = $16,000.00 I have done a lot of systems for less but it usually involves a customer who is willing to take the time to understand what they are getting for the money. Find a company that will put together a custom system and not a package. Tell them a budget and see what you can come up with. You should see a demo of any system that you are willing to drop this kind of money into. If the company can not provide an onsite demo dont waste your money with them. This will keep you from buying a system that will die in two years Dont waste time and money putting a ebay system together. You have to put a value on your time as an owner.

In my area the county also requires a permit for any job of this size so you will need to check with your building inspector and see what permits will cost. The installer will also charge additional time for someone to be onsite for the inspection. If you are going through a firewall there will be additional cost for keeping the system up to fire code as well. My advice is to call a couple local companies and request a RFQ for install and set up of customer owned equipment. Take the quotes to you purchasing department and see what they will let you do.

The company has been a Bosch dealer for 25 years. So really we have been a Burle- Phillips- Bosch dealer for 25 years so we use a lot of Bosch. Bosch has been slow to the HD market so I use Axis Comm cameras when I need HD or MP cameras. We do a lot of Federal and high security locations so if it is new to the market a lot of our customers will not approve it. I am not 100% sure what you are referring to as HD-SDI products. A lot of manufactures have different names for the same thing.

We provide a one year parts and labor warranty. We dont do a lot of service or maintenance contracts until the installs get into the 100K range. We just provide per call service for our customers. It is a good idea to offer service and maintenance because for a integrator this is a good source of RMR. We dont do it and it works for us but this is an area for growth and more RMR.
