voloftn started following GV-NET card needed?, Two Geovision Systems (tie together?), Wiring of Power Supply to Outlet and and 7 others

Hello, I have been following these forums and in the past 2 years I have built two Geovision 1480 systems. I have one in each of my stores. Is there a way to tie them together? I use remote view to watch the systems, but wasn't sure if there is something better for me to use. If you can point me in the general direction, I can probably take it from there. Thanks for all of your help.

I am wiring a Preferred Power Products 16 channel power supply to the outlet. Inside the box, there are white and black wires from the transformers that need to be tied to the electrical cord to be plugged up. I am assuming that that the white wire will connect to the wider prong of the cord and the black wire will connect the the small prong. There is also a grounding wire, but I have nothing to ground it to nearby. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I have searched the threads and can't find a solution. I have a Lilin PTZ and Geovision 1480 setup. The PTZ works perfectly on the host computer. I cannot get PTZ control using Multiview and I have setup the privileges correctly with all users. Is there a solution to this? Many thanks for your help!

I called Preferred Power Products and they are sending me a new board (completely free). Hopefully I won't have to change power supplies. They have a lifetime warranty on their products. Thanks for all of the help! [/code]

Unfortunately, it just has one supply that connects to both boards. I will start my search for a new board. I bought the power supply from Digital Watchguard and it is manufactured by Preferred Power Products.

On my 16 camera system, I have a 16-port power box divided into two 8-port supplies. It supplies a steady 11.95v to the boards that power the cameras when they are cut off. But when I turn on the power to 8 of the cameras, it's output to either one of the boards starts dropping. Again I only have one board (8 cameras) powered up. The output will drop to 8v to 10v and it jumps in that range. The lights that indicate the power to each of the 8 cameras will dim and change in intensity. In other words, the power supply drops its voltage when the cameras are pulling from it. The power supply has worked fine for the past year with no issues. Do I need a new supply? Thanks for your help.

I appreciate the reply and the help. However, I am still confused and I don't think that applies to what I have. The camera has a stand alone power supply that doesn't attach to anything other than power coming into it. Those diagrams aren't related to what I have.

I am a newbie to installing a PTZ. We have power running to our PTZ through the siamese wire that services it along with the video, which comes from the 16 port, 12 v power supply. Do I need to run an additional power line of 24v to the camera? The camera has a power brick that has 3 leads for power which converts it to 12v. How do I go about connecting it to power? I have a CAT5 cable I am going to use for commands. I seriously need some help this weekend on getting it running, due to a theft situation that may be occuring in the store. I appreciate any help.

I have an Antec True Power 500w powering my dual core 3 Ghz Intel. It is also pulling 3 SATA drives, 1 DVD-ROM, Geovision 1480, Floppy, ATI X700 video card, 2 case fans, & 1 CPU fan. Voltage is running at 12.5 on the 12v channel. The power supply is running so cool that the back fan hasn't even run yet. It only runs when needed. It does have an internal fan that pulls air through.

I downloaded and tried to install the upgrade, but after I selected the type of system I am installing (1480) and clicked next, it simply shutdown the computer normally and rebooted. Geovision isn't reflecting an upgrade to 8.02, any suggestions?

I have completed building my system and everything seems to be smooth thus far. I have a few questions about Geovision's startup procedure though. I don't have cameras installed yet to test some of these questions (the eletrician is installing them and running cable on Tuesday). -I assume that Geovision starts the recording process and starts the Geovision services before the login to Windows. Or should I allow Windows to proceed to the desktop? -Is there a a more in depth description to the Geovision modules available? The manual isn't exactly descriptive. Here's how I think it runs: Main GV App: Monitors and displays live feed Video Log: Allows for the server playback of archived video WebCam: Allows for Remote viewing via a web browser Remote View: Allows for remote version of Video Log application I have no idea what the TCP server does. There isn't a valid description anywhere to be found or settings. Thanks for any help. Todd

I just bought an APC 900VA battery backup. Should be good for 20 min, I hope. I'll keep the LCD off of it though. I just want the PC to stay up for the time customers are still in my store and the time we can get them out. What size does everyone typically use for a 16 ch. setup?

I'm still confused. Do I need the converter to operate the Lilin PTZ though?
-
I may have taken some advice I knew better than to take. The salesman at a sponsored surveillance company told me I didn't need the converter to operate the MeritLilin PIH 7000 dome. Is this true? I searched the forums and couldn't verify this answer. Thanks!

I think my gripe about the real time recording requirement is that I perceived that it was available at the 480 resolution in all 16 ch. With today's storage capacities that are easily available (700 GB HDs will come down in price soon), the recording hardware should catch up. How old is the current generation of Geovision hardware? I know that I looked at the 1480 card 3 years ago and it doesn't seem the specs have changed yet or have been enhanced with newer, faster technology. To sum it up, I guess that we're just wanting a system that will provide recorded video as good as live video. We don't have a specific need for it, but then again there are luxuries we all have that we don't need. I will say that it is time that Geovision upgrades their hardware to accomodate it.
