  1. Hello, I have been following these forums and in the past 2 years I have built two Geovision 1480 systems. I have one in each of my stores. Is there a way to tie them together? I use remote view to watch the systems, but wasn't sure if there is something better for me to use. If you can point me in the general direction, I can probably take it from there. Thanks for all of your help.
  2. I am wiring a Preferred Power Products 16 channel power supply to the outlet. Inside the box, there are white and black wires from the transformers that need to be tied to the electrical cord to be plugged up. I am assuming that that the white wire will connect to the wider prong of the cord and the black wire will connect the the small prong. There is also a grounding wire, but I have nothing to ground it to nearby. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    PTZ Control on Multiview App

Hello, I have searched the threads and can't find a solution. I have a Lilin PTZ and Geovision 1480 setup. The PTZ works perfectly on the host computer. I cannot get PTZ control using Multiview and I have setup the privileges correctly with all users. Is there a solution to this? Many thanks for your help!

    DC Power Issue

On my 16 camera system, I have a 16-port power box divided into two 8-port supplies. It supplies a steady 11.95v to the boards that power the cameras when they are cut off. But when I turn on the power to 8 of the cameras, it's output to either one of the boards starts dropping. Again I only have one board (8 cameras) powered up. The output will drop to 8v to 10v and it jumps in that range. The lights that indicate the power to each of the 8 cameras will dim and change in intensity. In other words, the power supply drops its voltage when the cameras are pulling from it. The power supply has worked fine for the past year with no issues. Do I need a new supply? Thanks for your help.

    DC Power Issue

I called Preferred Power Products and they are sending me a new board (completely free). Hopefully I won't have to change power supplies. They have a lifetime warranty on their products. Thanks for all of the help! [/code]

    DC Power Issue

Unfortunately, it just has one supply that connects to both boards. I will start my search for a new board. I bought the power supply from Digital Watchguard and it is manufactured by Preferred Power Products.

    Geovision 16 CH 1480 Setup

Hi All, I am new to the forum and new to building a DVR PC. However, I am a former Dell support technician building this for my business and I know my computers inside out. I am going to build a custom PC with the Geovision GV-1480 16 channel, 480 FPS card. The specs for the PC are as follows: -ASUS A8N-SLI Motherboard -Athlon 64 Dual Core 3800+ -1 GB Ram -3 Western Digital 500GB HD's, 3.0/SATA, RAID 0, total 1.5 TB -GeoForce 6800 PCIe, 256 MB Video Card, Dual DVI -DVD Burner -WinXP Pro -19" Widescreen LCD w/DVI In addition, I am going to purchase a Sony PTZ camera: [edit by mod - link removed due to non retail pricing] Does CCTVSpecialty.com offer genuine Geovision products as they advertise? Does this setup seem reasonable? How many days of storage could I expect with 16 cameras running, with the business open 14 hours/day? Does anyone else use a widescreen for Geovision products and does it help? Thanks! Todd
  8. I am a newbie to installing a PTZ. We have power running to our PTZ through the siamese wire that services it along with the video, which comes from the 16 port, 12 v power supply. Do I need to run an additional power line of 24v to the camera? The camera has a power brick that has 3 leads for power which converts it to 12v. How do I go about connecting it to power? I have a CAT5 cable I am going to use for commands. I seriously need some help this weekend on getting it running, due to a theft situation that may be occuring in the store. I appreciate any help.

    Merit Lilin PIH-7000 Power

I appreciate the reply and the help. However, I am still confused and I don't think that applies to what I have. The camera has a stand alone power supply that doesn't attach to anything other than power coming into it. Those diagrams aren't related to what I have.

    250watt power supply

I have an Antec True Power 500w powering my dual core 3 Ghz Intel. It is also pulling 3 SATA drives, 1 DVD-ROM, Geovision 1480, Floppy, ATI X700 video card, 2 case fans, & 1 CPU fan. Voltage is running at 12.5 on the 12v channel. The power supply is running so cool that the back fan hasn't even run yet. It only runs when needed. It does have an internal fan that pulls air through.

    Geovision Startup 1480

I have completed building my system and everything seems to be smooth thus far. I have a few questions about Geovision's startup procedure though. I don't have cameras installed yet to test some of these questions (the eletrician is installing them and running cable on Tuesday). -I assume that Geovision starts the recording process and starts the Geovision services before the login to Windows. Or should I allow Windows to proceed to the desktop? -Is there a a more in depth description to the Geovision modules available? The manual isn't exactly descriptive. Here's how I think it runs: Main GV App: Monitors and displays live feed Video Log: Allows for the server playback of archived video WebCam: Allows for Remote viewing via a web browser Remote View: Allows for remote version of Video Log application I have no idea what the TCP server does. There isn't a valid description anywhere to be found or settings. Thanks for any help. Todd

    Upgrade from 8.01 to 8.02

I downloaded and tried to install the upgrade, but after I selected the type of system I am installing (1480) and clicked next, it simply shutdown the computer normally and rebooted. Geovision isn't reflecting an upgrade to 8.02, any suggestions?

    UPS query / recommendation?

I just bought an APC 900VA battery backup. Should be good for 20 min, I hope. I'll keep the LCD off of it though. I just want the PC to stay up for the time customers are still in my store and the time we can get them out. What size does everyone typically use for a 16 ch. setup?

    GV-NET card needed?

I may have taken some advice I knew better than to take. The salesman at a sponsored surveillance company told me I didn't need the converter to operate the MeritLilin PIH 7000 dome. Is this true? I searched the forums and couldn't verify this answer. Thanks!

    Viewing Cameras Via LAN

I am going to install a 16 CH Geovision system in my grocery store. I am going to allow my supervisors access to the cameras via LAN in our service office. What kind of issues should I expect? What will the frame rate appear over the LAN? Thanks for all of your help. Todd

I'm still confused. Do I need the converter to operate the Lilin PTZ though?

    HT or dual core?

I think my gripe about the real time recording requirement is that I perceived that it was available at the 480 resolution in all 16 ch. With today's storage capacities that are easily available (700 GB HDs will come down in price soon), the recording hardware should catch up. How old is the current generation of Geovision hardware? I know that I looked at the 1480 card 3 years ago and it doesn't seem the specs have changed yet or have been enhanced with newer, faster technology. To sum it up, I guess that we're just wanting a system that will provide recorded video as good as live video. We don't have a specific need for it, but then again there are luxuries we all have that we don't need. I will say that it is time that Geovision upgrades their hardware to accomodate it.

component spec for ideal GV1480 system

Here's what I am putting my Geovision system in: http://www.iscdfw.com/onlinecatalog/dvr/dvr.htm Seems like a great lockbox, its ordered.. haven't seen it yet.

    HT or dual core?

I went back on the Geovision web site and it does specify that it records 480 fps at a 320x240 resolution. I totally missed it though. But, I think you'll be hard pressed to find any other solution that will match its capabilities. Here's where it is specified: http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/product/GV-Combo.htm

    HT or dual core?

Freeflyer, I'm in the same boat with you. I thought it would be 30 FPS at 640x480 on each camera up to 16. Now knowing it will only handle 8 cameras running at that resolution kinda stinks. It doesn't really effect the needs I have for it, but still.. it would be nice to know that I had all cameras running wide open. If this is really what you're wanting, you're going to have to build 2 PCs to accomodate your needs. I think Geovision has a control center that will tie the two systems together. Then again, this will substantially increase the cost of the total system.

    HT or dual core?

Rory, Are you saying that the machines we're building are overkill? A few questions I have: -Does playback effect the performance of Geovision 1480 when it is recording? -How does Geovision handle the recording when you're ripping a video, etc? -Can you slow down the 30 FPS recording rate by performing other takes on the computer? Maybe I'm over analyzing, but I am excited about getting this thing up and going as you can tell from my other posts.

    Viewing Permissions

I am installing the 16 channel Geovision 1480 card in my grocery store. This isn't too big of a deal, but can I specify which cameras certain users can see? For example, I do not want anyone to know where my PTZ is aimed on the front end of the store. It will be used for auditing cashiers and recording specific ones. I want my supervisors to have access to the system in the service office so they can track employees and customers in the store. They don't need to know where the PTZ is aimed. Thanks.

component spec for ideal GV1480 system

My system specs I just ordered: -Geovision 1480 card -ASUS Socket 775 motherboard with 945 chipset -Intel 3.0 Ghz dual core processor -2 GB Ram -3 500 GB Western Digital Drives, Raid 0 for 1.5 TB. -Diamond ATI X700 256 MB PCIe Video Card -DVD-RW Drive I am in the process of finding a good lockbox to set it in. Preferably one that has exhaust to help keep the PC cool. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I should probably look for a lock box that has enough space for a UPS. Don't need to overlook that!

    Geovision Demo Site

Here's a demo of the system, I suggest trying the Tokyo, Japan site. Use the MPEG4 viewer, select the DSL/CABLE connection and choose the multiview to see all of its ability to view remotely. http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/index.asp

G-view Remote viewing on Motorola Q

I read your article today and I had to double check that I could use the application on my mobile phone, the Verizon XV6700 Pocket PC phone with Windows Mobile 5. While I do not have broadband support through Verizon other than local WIFI, I was able to install the application on my phone and view their demo cameras through the WIFI. I am about to purchase the Geovision system (1480 card) and I had installed the app successfully in the past. Since then, I got a new phone and had to double check my work. The name of the file I downloaded and installed was PDAviewen7050.zip. This file may or may not be on Geovision's site anymore. If you need anything else, let me know.
