Why is it that clients always think they want covert cameras

The short answer is that many clients are focused on catching the bad guys; they have been wronged and want to get even. -
A mouse ate thru the pigtail from one of my Lorex cameras (twin type lead; video and 12V power). Inside the cable there are 2 red wires, 2 black wires, 1 gray wire and 1 white wire. How can I know which black wire to connect to the other black wire and the same for the red wires? Thank you.
