Looking for smallest IP cameras
Brent1971 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hi all, I have a few ELP IP 1080 cams on my house but there are a few issues with those, including cyber security. Looking for alternatives such as a "lipstick" format IP HD+ camera. Dont want my house looking like a shopping center! Based on the small size of the ELP and even smaller high-megapixel cameras in every smartphone, there must be something packaged tiny for general surveillance. Thanks -
Where to get quality 960-1200 TVL analog bullet/lipstick cam
Brent1971 replied to Brent1971's topic in General Digital Discussion
Understood. So it looks like I doubled my true clarity by going to 480 vertical dots. The horizontal is the TVL I think, so 700, 960, 1200 is the number of dots wide (pickets on the fence). No sharper because the 480 stays the same but wider field of view. I think that when I populate this with all 480+ vertical dot cameras of any width (TVL), I'll be about as good as possible for analog. The next upgrade will be digital. This one site shows about $400 min per camera for 5MP and who knows how much for the Digital Recorder. I have a 8 camera system so that would be over $4000. I wouldn't upgrade until that drops to $1000 which is quite some time. Whats ridiculous is that my smartphone has 5MP and I could buy these all day long for $150, camera and everything else. I think the 5MP image sensor, even a good one, and the minimal electronics needed to write the images to IP packets, should be dirt cheap (and very small). But instead we have only the huge clunky and drastically overprices "box cams" etc to deal with. Someone is missing a very large boat! -
Where to get quality 960-1200 TVL analog bullet/lipstick cam

OM I'm a bit confused but I will say the new DVR (which was worth $200 just for the better features) looks sharper. Even my wife said the same thing. The settings as u see form my screen pic avove, all max out at 480 vertical pixels which I THINK is double my old analog DVR. Double is not bad. As to that chart where the lines blur at the TVL point, doesnt that make the case that 1000TVL DOES EXIST (image on the right)? Explain... thanks! -
Where to get quality 960-1200 TVL analog bullet/lipstick cam
Brent1971 replied to Brent1971's topic in General Digital Discussion
I already have a DVR, it was $190 is 8chan 960H which they said can record up to 1200TVL (but the highest cameras he has now are about 1000TVL). I like the features and operation of the unit so far. It blows away my previous cheapie Dowson 16ch crap unit. One thing is that the setup for each camera only goes up to 944x480. That's still twice the vertical lines of my old analog and more than twice horizontal. But I dont know how it would pick up 1200x480, but he says it would. Not a big deal though. What I really need are very small cameras that will put out this many lines (960H) and do so clearly because some high TVL cams put out a crap image, apparently. -

Where to get quality 960-1200 TVL analog bullet/lipstick cam

Hey all, I just purchased a 1200TVL capable full D1 analog 8 channel DVR. Right now my location has a few small "lipstick" type cameras of 350-600 TVL (supposedly). I'd like to max out this new DVR but have NO IDAE where to source small hi-res analog cams that actually meet their specs. In the past, it's been hit or miss on camera quality and price is no guarantee either. Maybe I should have looked at HD Digital, but D1 seems like it should be good enough, IF I can get cameras that really reach the picture quality level. Any sources and advice appreciated... -
hi all, i have for years had a mish-mash system at my residence with a no-name DVR and 4 cameras. one is a 600tvl color/bw lipstick cam, one is a bw lipstick, and two are little board cameras about 1.5" across. Got some from super-c when things were cheap there. recently (and I'll make a separate dvr post) I got interested in a 960H DVR and found a ICatch 8ch that records up to 1200TVL for about $275 and a ZModo 8ch that does D1 at 30fps or 960H at 15fps for like $100. But from reading here, it REALLY seems important to have quality cameras. I dont want to go IP so looks like 960h or at least D1 is the way to go for simplicity and affordability. The amount of cameras (and junk) out there is bewildering. Bullet/lipstick cams that are 3/4" in diameter are easy to install so they cant be spotted as easily. One of mine sticks through the soffit and I painted it in except the center of the lens, you'd never know its there. Thanks for any and all suggestions. I would like a 960H-quality lipstick cam in all locations. Any suggestions?

Cool thanks. Great price point. It is CMOS which the Mpix video says is not as good at might but I can live with that. What I wonder, is this Porgressive scanning and how does it work on moving objects? The Mpix stops them with incredible clarity (But I cannot find an Mpix reseller or price yet, waiting for an email back on that)

OK cool I'll check it out thanks! (eBay hadnt come up in my search). Also, please see this video: And info summery on CCD and Progressive: http://www.avsipcctv.com/content/why-mpix He makes reference to CCD is better for mottion, and ESPECIALLY Progressive scanning! See the examples of stop action. Anyone know where to get these cameras or if they as good as they appear? Any other suggestions for 2-5MP IP cams for my home system? Keep em coming I am learning here...

Looking for home IP/Megapixel camera suggestions
Brent1971 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'd like to get a megapixel camera and more later. This video impressed me except the other video showing night images were not clear. But it is very informative. Too bad I cant find that camera sold anywhere to see the price. Also Vivotek seems to be a liked brand here. One other thing I would like a megapixel ip camera not to be obvious. Right now I have an analog system with small "lipstick" cameras sticking through small holes outside the premises, very discrete. Not sure how well I can hide an IP MP camera but def do NOT need IR illuminators fattening up the front. A more normal lens can be stuck through the wall facing out in many places like what I have now, and that would be great. So any advice is great. THIS is a great video and daytime performance like this especially on mocing objects would be great. (But the same cam doesnt look as well in the dark) And THIS image would be a GREAT night image, not sure which camera this is: images/imported/2012/07/197853_1.jpg Any advice appreciated. -
WOW. What make and model is that camera?

Anyone used the EH1008H-4 Nano DVR?
Brent1971 replied to Brent1971's topic in General Digital Discussion
Very cool have it downloading now. Regarding web access, I got that working. There were a couple issues, one I did need to "run as administrator" Internet Explorer and then I could slecet configuration tab and configure most settings. So thanks for that tip! Also, when I change to a static IP number, OR change the port from 80 to something else, I cant log on from Internet Explorer. I set the first two cameras to "Full D1" and the second two to Half D1. Thats probably overkill due to my cameras but cam2 and 4 at least are 600 and 540 lines TVL. I noticed that Full D1 is 720x480 and half is 720x240. Is the lower number the number of horizontal lines? Also, I turned on deinterlacing level 2, not sure if thats beneficial. The web viewer image is really not better than my trusty old analog DVR. Anyway, can someone recommend analog camera that can take full advantage of "Full D1" recording? Also, this unit can use up to a 2.3megapixel IP camera, can anyone recommend one of those to try? Thanks for all the advice its been a big help! -
Anyone used the EH1008H-4 Nano DVR?
Brent1971 replied to Brent1971's topic in General Digital Discussion
Nothing called "iSetup" exists. When I go to Web Tools folder and run the setup there it says already installed. There is no program group on start menu but the desktop has a "DVR Remote Console" icon and that runds the remote console whoch does not allow any configuration. When I access the nano it through Internet Explorer and click on the configuration tab, I get the following error: Windows cannot find'C:\Program Files\remoteAP\install_Language_20101208.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. I'll call them when I get the chance to. -

OK thanks for the info, yeah the unit is in a remote location so this is an issue. But I'll try to work with it. What is iSetup and where can I get it? Not on CD that I can see... thanks!
