Seems like if you want a 1080p wifi camera there are three main Sony sensors to choose from. The 322, IMX222, and 1/2.7 - does anyone have input on which may be a better sensor? Rebranding aside what's inside matters most

Umm....yes, thats why you disable the wifi for the price. I am sure you will find something wrong with that too though. Incase you dont know how to spell it is *difference* See you can't see why ...... basic networking netgear switch is cheap ..... Is that a problem for you Define cheap

Because it never works it's junk and does not conform to any standards Look at netgear .... Go to a local store ...$5 more? http://www.ebay.com/itm/D-Link-DIR-815-600Mbps-Wireless-N-Dual-Band-4-Port-Router-N600-w-Firewall-/371320150053?hash=item567467d825:g:1uUAAOSwEeFVR7zw

While we are on this subject, what does everyone think about these cheap switches for use with IP cameras? http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-port-RJ-45-10-100-1000-Gigabit-Ethernet-Network-Switch-Auto-MDI-MDIX-Hub-DC-5V-/291738459332?hash=item43ecf79cc4:g:d8EAAOSwKfVXEMHe I really only need to splice into 2 at the end of a run but a 5-port is a standard size.

I enjoy a good challenge, worth my money for fun at this point.

Sure, if you are in the middle of nowhere with noone else around that uses wifi. Otherwise you might not even have those 48Mbps. Or you might have them today, but not tomorrow. I thought that is what channels are for on a router? This seems like it would be a big issue for personal Wifi networks in the city if this were the case, nobody would ever get steady networks speeds. Everytime I speedtest over Wifi it is the same so I know my Wifi is always a stable speed and I have never had an issue with that. Thanks for your advice.

You, are the only one here arguing. I am asking for an elaborating for understanding.
-
The wifi spectrum is not yours, unless you live in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours. You might have the needed bandwidth today, but not tomorrow. 8 cameras @ 6Mbps each is 48Mbps on a 300Mbps router serving no computers or anything else wireless. I do not understand how my bandwidth is going to fluctuate from day to day, can you elaborate?

Thank You

I am a big eBay shopper, and I am comparing box camera enclosures. I live in the north so it needs to be heated, and I have found 3 versions I wanted opinions on. They are all about the same price. This one includes the mounting arm: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CCTV-Security-Camera-Weatherproof-Housing-Heater-Blower-Fan-Kit-Bracket-/261719155990?hash=item3cefad6516:g:hIAAAOSwMpZUpFLz This one has a rounded sun shield with no mounting arm: http://www.ebay.com/itm/16-Outdoor-Weatherproof-CCTV-Security-Surveillance-Camera-Housing-Enclosure-/291716803292?hash=item43ebad2adc:g:WEQAAOSwZtJW8i18 This one is not painted and may be thinner? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Outdoor-CCTV-CCD-Security-Camera-Housing-Enclosure-with-Heater-Cooling-Fan-/361671919054?hash=item54355385ce:g:unkAAOSwtnpXoKh1

Sure it can be, I have separate NICs for cctv and mobile devices. Separate routers too, no cctv traffic flows over my network that laptops and phones use for Internet.

What is wrong with wifi cameras on a dedicated network??

Best DVR Software You Use?
Mr. Anonymous posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I picked up a cheap 4 channel USB DVR capture device, and it came with some DVRS software that is not that great. This unit only supports D1 not HD however identification is not an issue right now it just monitors traffic. I do not even think the software has any Apple store compatible viewing apps. I know BlueIris is suppose to be a leading universal DVR software but what else is really good? Preferably something that has a motion sensing map, I see some software supports a grid-like motion sensing system. Along with remote viewing from iPhone? Suggestions please -

Yes I would do the same on the opposite side and feed my hardwired PCs into router #1. This makes a lot of sense If I paid for a copy of BlueIris, or something similar, I could skip the entire cost of a DVR...and start investing in wireless IP cameras. -

I saw a really good video and between CVI and TVI I kind of liked the TVI: There is a recorder on eBay that claims 5mp: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1080P-2MP-HD-TVI-DVR-8Ch-Tribrid-support-Analog-1080P-TVI-IP-Camera-Up-to-5MP-/151900370093?hash=item235df7b4ad:g:4fEAAOSwH71XPe~6 TVI3!? I will start that research now, great advice. HD TVI --(RG6)---> DVR ---> Second NIC I do not really need a secondary NIC in this case in the server, only if I was pulling 8 individual IP cameras raw was my thought. Once I am streaming all the channels compressed from the DVR I see no need for the second NIC. My thought on the second NIC was this, with 8 IP cams all wireless: LAPTOPS/PHONES --(802.11N/AC)---> ROUTER #1 --(CAT6)---> SERVER NIC #1 - Load from streaming files ALL WIFI CAMS --(802.11N/AC)---> ROUTER #2 --(CAT6)---> SERVER NIC #2 - Load from cameras only -
I do not need IR I use motion lights right now. My cameras are 24vAC but when I upgrade they will likely move to 12vDC. I am more curious on structure strength and longevity (oxidation, chipping, etc). I am also concerned about maybe the design of the heater/ventilation from product to product. Anyone who owns them would be of great help

Luckily I already have RG6 to all locations so sending multiple streams down a single cable will not be a needed requirement. From some comparisons I think I will definitely stay with TVI for image clarity. I will order an HD-TVI DVR and use that for a while, I can add IP cameras to that if need be as well. Why is wireless a bad idea?? -

I am REALLY liking the idea of using a secondary NIC and wireless router to isolate my CCTV! This way I can go wireless and use the existing coax as power lines. My long 1000ft run is the total of several channels, I may be able to get away without any extenders because I will be able to locate the CCTV router closer to the cameras. 4 cameras down a single coax? How does this work? CVI has in-cam encoding? I thought it stands for composite video interface? Therefor outputting an analog composite stream to a BNC DVI? -

You missed the part about my heavy local usage, that is the problem with this. I run a file server within my home I stream files from to other computers in my home. 2-4Mbps helps for an estimate....or is it mbps? This was also a thought if I did not want to run new cables to use IP cameras they have wireless IP cameras. However I already use 100% of my 802.11 N/AC when streaming files from my NAS to laptop (intermittently) so I was wondering if I could dedicate a router for cameras then feed it into my hardwired lan. This would avoid any camera traffic going through the router I use for my phone and laptop. -

So what? you will be pulling may be total between 5-10 Mbps that nothing for your network What if I add IP cameras to the network? What kind of bandwidth do they draw? -

I am streaming live video from the DVR over the network and onto my desktop environment. -

So this comes down to an AHD or TVI version of a DVR? I went to SWANNs website for an entry price range and for an 8ch DVR capable of 1080p recording including a 2TB drive is $300 so assuming they can produce a drive for $50 their unit is still $100 more expensive than eBays. I wish I understood the stream choke, maybe he means on a slower speed network? This is actually something that scares me a bit about moving to an IP system, all my household PCs fetch all their personal files including the desktop environment from the file server in the office which runs 10,000rpm drives for quick seeking. This means I use my Gigalan to its full benefit, seeing how my drives are still capable of a higher transfer rate than my network can handle. I do not want to bog down my network's bandwidth with cameras between the PCs. -

What is an entry level 8 channel cost? How do I tell if this is going to be an issue when shopping? Price can not be the only thing to go by? My lan is 1.0Gbps done with Cat6 -
I currently use analog box cameras with an analog to digital capture device via USB. I have been looking into IP cameras that go on my network and I have a question. Do network cameras have their capture device built in? This seems like a better solution to bottlenecking these box cams: digital cmos > analog output and cable > analog USB capture device > back to digital. With network cams I assume it is: digital cmos > digital capture > digital network output?
