Camera suggestion for tough lighting situation at front door
matjaz replied to ronp's topic in Security Cameras
http://www.pixim.com/images/side-by-side-images "Because each pixel has its own analog-to-digital converter and the information generated is captured and processed independently, each pixel in effect acts as its own camera. The exposure time for each pixel is adjusted to handle the unique lighting conditions at that pixel location in the image sensor array. A product built with the Digital Pixel System platform essentially has hundreds of thousands of individual cameras, each of which produces the best image possible. These images are then combined to create a high quality video frame or picture. In contrast, other technologies typically set one exposure time for the frame and sample each pixel at that time – resulting in images with some pixels that are underexposed (too dark) and some that are overexposed (too bright)." -

sorry .... i was reading to fast ... -
you can use WDS, which stands for Wireless Distribution System, is a feature that enables single-radio APs to be wirelessly inconnected instead of using a wired Ethernet connection. Many ruters support this, and for cheaper ones there is WRT firmware. But i am not sure if this will work for that scale of install (bandwidht)

agree with GrouchoBoucho .... if we forget signal strenght ( in EU is limited) and weather facts ....think about bandwidth - 30 x 800 kb its really hard to set up .. i didnt see any reliable wireless setup at that magnitude ... i dont say its not possibille but it will be tricy ... i am interested on other member inputs on this ...

And another thing : there is one more settings in IE9 than can affect video : somewhere in Tools section you have choice of using bitmap rendering VS GPU acclerated rendering. But right now i cant remember exact location, will look when i come home

Yes i test this procedure and its worked on this series of generic chinese DVR http://www.ebax.si/app/trg/index.php/cameras-cctv-recorders-c-21_79 ( i think its manufacturer is BXS). But you must still set up active x access controls like usually. I must follow this procedure to enable active x ; http://www.ebax.si/privat-kamere/videonadzorne-kamere-E-ActiveX%20Controls.pdf Bt since active x access has so many limitatons , i alwasy try to instal clinent DVR program and a nice icon od desktop

mainstream/substream question
matjaz replied to serbokl's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Not true. Primary strem is usualy MPEG based with all his problems.MPEG based compresions - like AVC - are great for stream-transport , because they record only diffirence betwen pictures. MPEG is using IBP frames and that basicly mean, than only every n-th frame is full, all other are constructed or compued from previus and next I frams. ( they areMPEG compressions with only editable I frames - mainly in video production - , but that means that they are then basicly sequences of JPG pictures - same as MJPEG). MPEG compression is extremly usefull in CCTV (talking heads sceenes) , but can be problematic on court if requested snapshot dosent exist and is "reconstructed". MJPEG on other side can always produce unreconstructed freame, but at cost of bandwidth and storagespace. So many misson critical casses ask for MJPEG compression. MJPEG is series of full frames with regular JPEG compression, but compresed per frame. i found some times ago a nice presentation of this from OnSSI : http://ebax.si/privat-kamere/videonadzor-kamere-kompresija.pdf -

NVR and DVR,which one I shoule choose?
matjaz replied to maggie0608's topic in General Digital Discussion
If you wanna high definition video then NVR , for standard PAL/NTSC go for DVR. Look also at Hybride recorders : they can use lets say 5 cheap NTSC cameras and 2 High deginition Megapixel at same time. -

problem with Green disks is their energy save funcion with internal fast head spindown , variable spin rate and similiar settings . As such they are good for computer use ( computer can control advanced settings in firmware) but not for DVR or any other UNIX or LINUX based contnius recording of large chunks of data. In other words : if you record room with 1 passing person per 10 minuts using motion detection fuction and your green disk inside DVR park heads (with plate spinup and spindown) on every 5 minutes your disk will be dead in one year. Also manufacturers dont recomand use of green disk in any RAID . Why ? If raid detect spindown of HD he will declare failed drive. Its not so simple, but you got the point.

When i reset my DVR to factury default , he always got factory default username/password . With other words, if you reset DVR than does not mean that there will be NO password, it only mean that he will replace existing password with DEFAULT password. So you will need to find a manual or ask tech support, or you can post picture of front panel if anyone on board have any clue.

this and many older cameras uses active-x for video stream and this will always pop up a warning display, so it will scare youre user. Another big problem is, that Active X works by default only in Internet Explorer . Beter option is RTSP video stream from IP camera (without any servers) or image upload to ftp + meta atorefresh tag in html How to Configure ActiveX in Internet Explorer Step 1 – Launch Internet Explorer by double clicking the program icon on your computer’s desktop. Step 2 – Select the “Tools” menu followed by clicking the “Internet Options” sub-menu. Step 3 – Choose the “Security” menu tab and use the computer’s mouse to select the Internet Zone corresponding to the overall desired security level on the computer. Step 4 – Choose the zone on the “Security Tab” for which you desire to manage the ActiveX controls followed by clicking the “Custom Level” menu option. Step 5 – Scroll down the screen to the “Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins” menu option and select the “Administrator Approved” menu option. Step 6 – Repeat step 5 for all Internet zones that you want to enable ActiveX controls. Step 7 – Depending on the version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer, you may need to either exit and restart the browser or restart your computer for the changes to take effect. How to Configure ActiveX Installation Policy for the Trusted Sites Zone Websites that you or your organization trusts can be added to the “Trusted sites zone” to allow installation of ActiveX controls without network administrator approval. If a site uses one or more sub-domains, the wildcard character can be used in combination with a subdomain to permit multiple URLs to install controls. For example, if https://*.tech-faq.com is added to the Trusted sites zone policy setting, then all web sites at tech-faq.com will be allowed to install ActiveX controls onto a single or group of computers. Before enabling this feature, all servers in the sub-domains should be verified to be trusted. Step 1 – Select the “Start” button and enter “gpedit.msc” in the “Search Text Field” followed by pressing the “Enter” key to launch the “Local Group Policy Editor.” Step 2 – Select the “ActiveX Installer Service” located under the “Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components” menu tree. Then, right-click the “ActiveX installation policy for sites in Trusted Zone” menu option located in the details pane. Step 3 – Click the “Edit” menu button to open the policy setting and select the “Enabled” menu option located in the “ActiveX installation policy for sites in Trusted zones” dialog box. Step 4 – Choose the policy settings to apply to sites in the “Trusted sites zone” under the options menu. Step 5 – Configure desired installation options such as “silent installs,” “prompt the user,” or “Don’t install” for controls that you do not want to be installed on the computer on the current menu. Policy statements can be entered for signed, unsigned, and signed by a trusted publisher controls in this configuration menu. Controls using secure server validation (HTTPS) can also be configured to be permitted in this menu in the absence of a valid security certificate. Step 6 – Click the “Ok” menu button to apply changes and exit the Group Policy Editor application. -
Making a wireless CCTV system out of a wired cctv camera

GV800(S) + DELL OptiPlex 755 = Blue Screen every 4-5 days
matjaz replied to bashful's topic in Geovision
pfrom youre log problem is driver of this CCTV card or his driver. Look for other (newer or older) driver for youre CCTV card. Do you have bios settings on default ? Is some kind of S1-S4 energy saving enabled in bios? This can cause problems of this kind too, if driver is poorly writen. Try to disable all energy saving functions in bios AND in windows. -

HDMI will transfer HD to TV without problems, DVI can be a tricky one. But be carefull to use HDMI cable certificated for lenght that you need ... you cant join 2 5-meters HDMI and expect good quality ... HDMI for 10 meters must be build from better cable than 3 meters HDMI. Cheaper option is HDMI over CAT-5 cable with cheap HDMI extender like this http://www.ebax.si/app/trg/product_info.php/hdmi-extender-over-utp-p-3154 (just for ilustration, they dont sell to USA)

ideal for CCTV are AV ( audio video) hard drives with 5400 RPM and special firmware made for long sequential chunks of video files with a good termal characteristic. Any temperature over 60 celz. can harm magnetic plates inside hard drive so usual hard drives optimized for daily PC use are not optimal choice . Keeep away from any "green" drives with energy comsuption optimization - they will park write heads way too fast ant that feature in combination with motion detection drived recording will kill them fast. By all means swap rack for HD is better option - in case of police and court action, you can take out HD and always present original recording on HD and not some "backup" on usb key that can be "altered" . Even recorded backup footage on CD can be dismissed on court by good advocate if recording and backup proces was not made by athorized techican (at least this is court practice here)

try with fixed ip ( ask youre inet provider) and check if there are no blocked ports on his side - sometimes they block popular ports for "security" reasons
