Hikvision is owned by the Chinese government
elefantrider replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Where did you see Minolta CHINA took over Mobotix? Like many non-Chinese companies, they might have a factory in China but this person is not Chinese: https://www.mobotix.com/other/Company/News/News-2016/Yuji-Ichimura-New-Chairman-Of-The-MOBOTIX-Supervisory-Board -

Mobotix cameras expensive
elefantrider replied to mastersonblaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Good one. Yes they are expensive but offer free software upgrades. I'm a Mobotix fan but my experience has not been without problems. I've had 2 Mobotix cameras which needed to be sent back to Germany for repair within the first 12 months of use (S15, D15) due to electronic failures or errors. I think the warranty period should be longer if the cameras are supposed to be as robust as the manufacturer claims them to be. Always buy from a reputable distributor who can leverage Mobotix when problems happen. Unfortunately, this means paying the price but discounts off list price are sometimes available. Would like to try another high end brand but since I'm already very familiar with Mobotix, will like likely stick with what I know. Unless I'm missing something……. -
I see Mobotix is rolling out a new "M" camera this week. It looks like it will have a different shape and will be able to accommodate twin 180 degree, day/night cameras! I wonder what else it will offer. Maybe someone here knows more details. http://www.mobotix.com/eng_US/Company/News/News-2012/MOBOTIX-News-09-2012

Question about high-end IP cameras
elefantrider replied to jackleblack's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Nice night image. What lux level or approx time of night was that taken? What resolution and frame rates do you get with that camera? -
Questions regarding front porch camera system
elefantrider replied to camera-newbie's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I would just get a Q25 day or night depending on how much light you have. The D15 is another option if you want both day and night but it screams security camera. If you want to save some money, you can pick up a Q24 used on Ebay for around $400. The S15 lens requires that you drill a monster 1-3/4" in order to mount - and it only has a mic. You would need to add an external speaker to a S15. I am not familiar with the other brands but Mobotix software is really powerful once you get to know it. And if you choose to upgrade later, Mobotix has good resale value. Actually, it is one of the only brands whose value doesn't drop 80% as soon as you mount it. -
MegaPixel Cameras - Images and Demos

The mobotix image looks better to me, although difficult to compare because of different focal lengths. -

If recording is limited to 3MP, isn't their calling the camera 5MP a little disingenuous? -

Last update on the 15 was in April, buried on their website: http://www.mobotix.com/eng_GB/file/6791901/mx_NW_AS-S15-D15_en_130506.pdf I think the M15 is still a while away. Only the D15 dome is supposed to be for this month. Looks like a game changer to me. -

It will be good to see just how the M15 does the new 5mp 180 degree fisheye lens. I don't think a single 5mp 180 degree will look as good as a 3mp 90degree but I am patiently waiting to be proven wrong! -

Good points, much appreciated. In the above picture, I think the M15 looks is rather small compared to the D14 with the optional wall mount. Perhaps if the D14 was mounted directly to the wall, it wouldn't look so large. The D14 screams security camera whereas I am not sure many people outside the industry know the "M" is actually a camera. The Q24 is the most low-profile - and that part I like. But in my head, I have put it more into the interior camera category. For outside use, I find it more a novelty when compared with the M and D which are real high-resolution options with images you can use with longer distances. Maybe if a 5mp Q24 is released, I'd consider one for outdoor use. -

I like how they're making lenses interchangeable on the M15. The D15 (dome) will be out sooner and I'm having a difficult time deciding between both. The dome is good for a corner building or post mount, offering a more view flexibility and a 360 view. While the M will be easier to mount a IR Illuminator to. (I have not seen a good way to use a IR illuminators with dome cameras) Any other D vs. M pros/cons? -

A dual lenses day/night q24 would be great. Meanwhile, i wonder if it would be possible to corner/pole mount a m15 pointed down so you have the day night feature with hemisphere view of the new 5mp lenses. -

Anyone know if the m15 5mp technology will be applied to the q24? -

The thermal is an add-on option from what I understand. The base units won't have it. -

The M15 should be out soon. Anyone hear anything or get their hands on one? -

elefantrider replied to elefantrider's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
That is what I heard also. And that the thermal imager will have a much better range than the current sensor. Should know more this week but the product is still a good 5 months away from coming to market from most reports. -

That is why I am looking forward to the m15, especially if it can accommodate the 180 view lens. The q24 is also interesting, too bad it cannot handle low light- it seems most people are using these indoors. I have considered the d14 but cannot get past the size of the wall mount. -

Is the wall mount as big in person as in photos? It looks twice the size of the M. -
New Mobotix M15
elefantrider replied to elefantrider's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Let's hope they can keep the price down too. The problem I see with the D14 is that they are not as robust as the M series, and they are only fully weatherproof with the optional wall mount which really adds to its price. But the D14 is newer than the M12, and it is always better to buy something closer to the top of the tech curve. Are you using your D14 indoors or out? How are you mounting it? -
New Mobotix M15
elefantrider replied to elefantrider's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
OK, here is what the buzz is about. It will have higher resolution from 3Mega to 4 or 5. It MIGHT be L11 (180 degree) lens capable. Lenses can be removed more easily. Faster processor and a thermal sensor. Coming out sometime in Spring or Summer of next year. Should know more details this week. -

elefantrider replied to elefantrider's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
A little bird told me it will have other changes as well. The dual 90 degree d14 is pretty big once you mount it vertically on a wall mount so this could be a more compact solution for outdoors. -
Please recommend a mobotix camera. Picture of house included
elefantrider replied to USA Ed's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Bringing this one back up. This has been an informative post. Did you go with d14s or m12s on your house? Happy with your choice? I am weighing the same decision, dome vs box. -
Stumbled on this site while doing research on IP cameras, particularly day/night performance from Mobotix. So far, it has been a great resource as I design my new system. Hope y'all don't mind questions, cause I'm sure I'll have a lot of them!
