  1. hmm I would not clip it off unless you get the go-ahead from your vendor, many sellers consider it as physical damage and voids the warranty (even if you put a pig tail back on it and it works fine).

    bunkerhill h264 password problem

PM'ed you a password that seemed to work with a similar unit. hope it works. If worse comes to worst, just replace the DVR with a new one. 4 channel will run you about $69-99 and you can use the old hard drive/old cameras. Or take out the LAN cable so she can't see you on her phone anymore.
  3. I think its better off getting a dahua NVR....do you have hik cameras already?

x/ and no one has a virtual box on their Mac that runs Windows? I haven't worked with .video files before so I can't help you...i have software for .264 and other codecs for other brands of DVR but that software you posted is not familiar to me.

Have you tried VLC ? usually they will play most types of video files. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
  6. Hey man, there's never a dumb post! I actually never seen the Hikvision weatherproof connector in action...got any pictures after you installed it?

    Step above "Costco systems"

To choose a NVR, you should ask yourself or your business's owner some questions like: Do you want NVR with built-in POE switch? or External POE switch? (Built-in POE switch means less things to plug in and manage allowing easier installation, plug and play capability, but also means you will have to home-run the cables) If you will use the built-in POE solution, I would recommend same company for the Cameras too for best results. Will you be only using 1.3mp or 3mp cameras? (some entry level NVR won't handle 3mp cameras) Will the NVR handle x amount of cameras at x amount of resolution at x amount of FPS? (you need to find out the max bitrate the NVR can process, for example usually its a number like 20mbps for 4 channel NVR /40mbps for 8 ch/80mbps for 16 ch/160mbps for 32-64 channel ) Some people will use a 32 ch with 160Mbps to record only 10 x 3 mp cameras at highest quality and 30 FPS. How much storage and number of hard drive do you need? Some machine can only handle 1 hard drive, while others can do more. Q-SEE IP cameras are made by Dahua, while I have never called their tech support line, I heard not so good things about q-see support (they do have an extensive online library though). And they seem to only have good prices on bundles, you can't customize that much. Good luck!
  8. Here's a list of ISP I have worked with that allows port forwarding, it should be 90% of the market: Verizon Comcast xfinity comcast business class AT&T Optimum online (sometimes) Bellsouth Doesn't work or needs to be from their side: most satellite ISP Optimum online
  9. If its built-in POE, try to put the NVR in a different segment than the built-in POE. For example, a NVR would have 192.168.1.100 as ip and 192.168.1.1 as gateway, but the POE NIC would have 192.168.188.1 and the cameras would have 192.168.188.2 and so on. The very first firmware the built-in NIC for the POE was in the same segment as the LAN, but it lead to network issues so they separated it in the next firmware. Well I hope i'm understanding it correctly since you said they were in the same segment...give it a try and see if it helps.

    DVR WiFi Access with iPod?

I used a similar machine that also uses meye but the DVR has a 'Mobile Port' which I put in meye. Default mobile port was 100. Check under 'Network' and see if there's any other ports listed, and try out different ones in the app. Wish they would label which port to use and which port to not use in the app.

    Extracting data off Hikvision DVR?

Very glad it worked! If you like to donate you can send to your local animal shelter Let me know if you ever switch trade or do it for your friends/family, with your background in IT, IP cameras integration should be a breeze.

    Extracting data off Hikvision DVR?

Hmm you can try using the toolset to download remotely, not sure if it will have that 4000 shot error. http://www.ltsecurityinc.com/en_us/page/Platinum_download.html Go to the download called "Platinum Toolset" all the way on the bottom and download that. Once you install it, there is an tool called Remote backup. After you click on that, click on setting then devices to add the DVR. After you added the devices, Click on Manual then select the camera you want to download the data. Hikvision has this toolset too but I can't find it on their site for some reason. This platinum one will work just find though. Click on Help then click on User manual for more details, its fairly new and we only know the overview of it. I'll try it out today and see how it works exactly.

Is sound really important for surveillance system

Not sure how important they are for catching criminals, but alot of audio recording requests come from store owners who wants to listen in on their employees. Another one was a neighbor needed to record audio because his neighbor was always blasting loud music late at night and having parties It would be nice to have built-in Mic, then the cameras also functions as an intercom.
  14. That will work, I just imagine the two ports as one port and connect it as I would connect a NVR with one lan port. Another way is to connect both LAN ports on the NVR to the switch and then the upload from the switch would go to the router (would save you a extra port on the router). But like its still just theory as not much people have tested this out.
  15. Hmm is SADP seeing your other good cameras? More than a few times I installed SADP on a computer but it just can't detect the camera (could be due to computer or winpcap...) but luckily they had a NVR which could detect it. Another idea would be to use shielded Cat5e if the camera tests out OK at the bench but not at the installed location.

    freezing weather

Hmm the official operating temperature of the mini bullet cameras is -13 F ~ 140 F. If the cable that provides the power is protected from the elements it should be OK, i had one guy put the camera in a walk-in freezer and haven't had any complaints.
  17. Hmm one Hikvision model also have two Lan ports (64 ch one), and this is how the manual explained them. Basically its two NIC and you can choose how the bandwidth gets managed based on the mode you select. Most people select 1 for the router and 2 for the switch, just like in your picture.

System with Most Powerful Mobile App

While Dahua is a good brand to go with, but I really don't like the web interface (they jammed too much things into it and no explanation of what some of the options does like anti-dither) and how difficult it is to find firmware updates (or even know if there's new firmware)
  19. That user manual is a generic user manual that applies to almost all the models, and that part you quoted just explains what the ptz button does under live view. Rs 485 could be for a joystick so you can zoom and focus 0-355 pan means you can manually turn it around that much by hand. I might be wrong can you post some picture of that ptz camera?
  20. That model is not a PTZ camera, its a varifocal dome camera with motorized lens that can zoom in and out remotely from 2.7mm-9.0mm. A 30 x PTZ camera has a 4.3 ~ 129.0mm lens according to hikvision. http://www.hikvision.com/en/us/Products_show.asp?id=7661 It has E-PTZ, which is just another word for digital zoom, you need OPTICAL ZOOM You want something like this for PTZ. http://www.hikvision.com/en/us/Products_show.asp?id=9174 Basically you got the wrong camera if you wanted PTZ (if the model number you gave is correct) return it when you can~

Help with my DVR H.264 Password

Hi Lolo, the app that will work with that DVR is called mEye https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/meye/id329501794?mt=8 You can use our free DDNS if you like ns1.dvrlists.com Here is a video on how to register: Most people just use the IP though if you don't feel like setting up DDNS. Make sure you open the Mobile Port (default is 100 i think) and put that in the port number.
  22. Here are the measurement of the plate, you will use hole 4 to mount to the 3 holes on the camera. The 4 big holes without numbers will be to mount to the wall mount. from hole 4 to hole 4 they are around 9.75cm apart from each other. So measure the 3 holes on your camera then if they are like 9.75cm from each other our mount should fit.
  23. I think I see the problem with Heuer's mount, sounds like they didn't give him the mounting plate with more hole options . Here is our mount unboxing: came with two mounting plates, 5 metal anchors, wall mount, and no instructions. The plates are labeled 'A' and 'B' , plate B matched the 3 holes on the camera and also 4 out of the 6 holes on the mount. So first, mount plate b to wall mount, then mount camera to plate B and you are done. all 3 holes of that turret camera align with the plate B. But the camera DID NOT fit into the mount without the mounting Plate, so I can see why Heuer had to drill into the casting.
  24. Yeah Hikvision puts even the old apps as part of the download, you have to be careful of the launch date of the software and make sure you don't dl the old one.
