You have to use wires or a battery to provide power. Wireless transmission of power can happen but it doesn't work very well and is extremely lossy. And it's pure line of sight via microwave. So for your install you need batteries or wiring for the power.

Better HDD = Better Framerate?
Thomas replied to HipsterDoofus's topic in General Digital Discussion
It shouldn't be that big an issue. Most likely what you saw as a drive who's motor is in the soon to fail stage and you got it early. -
And it will infringe on the trademark. Also selling any pirated materials is a federal felony inside the US.

Generally IP camera set ups are going to be more expensive for the same quality. Generally I perfer central storage because you can take advantage of the redunancy of raid based systems.

I belive some of them do.

Otherwise known as why I sit behind a desk and not in the field where I can do harm. I had forgotten about the power supply ground.

Medium-term limitations of a large digital system

The basic building blocks are there. The tech will be cheaper but I wouldn't expect it to be easier. I would drop the audio recording requirement. In many areas it's illegal, and frankly it's creepy. The problem here is that you are working in theory but not setting guidelines. Compression methods will be more important then the native resolution of the cameras. This isn't future tech. Alot of schools do it now with existing DVRs and cameras. The issue here is more a matter of camera placement then technology. It's not even that rare when you look at real DVRs rather then the cheap ones. Or I can compress it at the camera, or I can use a cluster of DVR's with central monitoring software to make it work. My methods will probley be much less bandwith intensive. But I was going to pull raw data across the network, then I would store it in a raw format for later forensics work. -
Converting the file may or may not be hard. You will need a few basic tools. The codec used to create the file and some video editing software. This assumes the video clip isn't an executable. The only hardware you will need is a PC to do the edit on. I would recommend trying to find out who did the install via the accounting department.

Note that he didn't say he used wireless, just that it looked like it. What interferance patterns look like depend more on what is causing it rather then the method of transmission. Second point. Keep it nice. If you can't post without forming a lather then don't post. Note that I have deleted one post from this thread already.

My understanding of the physics of the ground loop is that the camera has a differant earthing potential then the power supply. So a floating camera should in theory never have a differant earthing potential then the power supply because the power supply would be the ground for the camera.

Our company has had video from our products stand up in court but what determines it is the following three factors: 1. The local laws and bar association guidelines. 2. The judge. 3. How expensive is the defense lawyer. If you feel like being evil, ask him to cite the case law forbiding the use of digital video.

And you are indexed by Google. You page rank just seems to be very low. Some reasons your page rank isn't super high: Content: You don't have alot of it. Google loves content. Google loves big blocks of text that have meaning. You have alot of pictures, but you don't use the alt tag to explain the images. By default Google ignores the images because it can't tell the differance between site images (like navagation bars) and actull images like the images you have. The Alt tag makes a differance there. By putting pictures into text, you increase your content, and in your case it would be dramatic. Links: You don't have many outbound links or many incomming links. Google doesn't like dead end pages. People need to link to you. You need to link to people.

Google has a six month backlog or so on spidering.

It's not nosy. Some dealers keep demo systems online for prospective customers to view. But I think there may be some confusion. 1. Are you using wireless cameras? 2. What type of cameras are they?

They do credit a source (Isle of Man Constabulary) but not the orginal. It's fine for research but a little lazy.

What is the Bandwidth of a CCTV Camera's Video Signal?
Thomas replied to Willie's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
The max length according to the specs is 35ft or just a hair over 11m. You can run it further, and use some cables that are rated for 2x that length. But you start running the risk of packet loss. You can always exceed any spec. Specs aren't writen to be the absolute answer. What they are writen to is the most likely place in which you will start seeing trouble. Going by the specs with decent to good gear generally means that everything will work. If you buy crap, well you bought crap. It's why being stupidly cheap costs you money in the long run. -
Um, yes Geovision can do quite a bit of damage to a dealer selling fake cards. 1. It's a trademark violation. That's expensive to defend against, most lawyers don't touch that part of the law, those that do are specialists and specialists cost alot more. Even if you were to win, odds would be pretty good you would be bankrupted. From the last study I saw, the cost of defense of trademark lawsuits was in the 1 to 2 million dollar range. 2. It's against American and most countries law to sell pirated equipment. Jail terms can be in the five to ten year range for it.

Anyone played with one of these? IP Video Server Model 9100A

As a general rule of advice...CCTV gear on E-bay that isn't used is almost always garbage. -
Moving water tends to reflect it. Still water will absorb it.

Because putting the system in the DMZ exposes it to potential viruses. The DMZ is for embeded devices and that's it. Event then I wouldn't trust it. -
New Video Surveillance System of Production Facility
Thomas replied to robertc513's topic in System Design
Wireless is something I would avoid. To do it right is expensive and to do it cheaply is expensive. The right gear reduces risk of problems but it costs alot. To do it cheaply is expensive because you will make motion detection worthless and run a strong chance of the system not working at all.
