It's okay. The reason we have that rule in place is to protect dealers. When non-retailer pricing is posted it tends to harm dealers because end users expect that they should pay that price. Having owned my own bussiness I can tell you that 0% margin doesn't pay the bills.

Honestly why is it an issue at all? I don't know Geovision but as long as 20 mb/s is left free how would the local view ever affect the remote?
-
I would go with what the local television standard is.
-
Why not just switch over to gigabit gear instead? If your local users can jam up that pipe I'd be impressed.

Yep, an F-Connector is the screw on type. I can tell you that the odds of that software having motion detection is somewere between .00001 and 0.0. -
For this hypothetical GUI, what can the software do? Are we talking basic recording or more advanced features? Who is going to use the software? Basic rules: Video should always be on display. Selecting features may obscure video but I should be able to drag and drop my settings. If I'm not showing live then I'm showing recording. Under ideal circumstances you shouldn't be looking at more then 9 cameras on one display. For more then that ponder multidisplay set ups. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0750678003/qid=1130956745/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-7213212-4186467?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 If you can find that book via interlibary loan or other source, he has alot of referances to how humans interact with CCTV. (How much can a user handle, etc.)

You can go back even further when looking at terrorism. Afganistan was exactly what the current admisitation wants to see in the middle east. A good enconomy, progressive society, voting, etc. This is of course prior to the Soviet invasion. What if Regan had gone in and spent massive amounts of aid? What if he had leaned on Pakastan to not get involved? (They helped create the chaos that let the Taliban fill the void.)

The F-Connector is probley going to look for an RF based signal (The card you have is a TV-Tuner card.) and the RCA isn't. CCTV signals aren't modulated (because you're only sending one down the line.) but TV is. -
I can do you one better then a link. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0750678003/qid=1130884284/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-7213212-4186467?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 The previous verison had a testing chart on the back and the instructions.

He's forgotten more then I will ever know.

To test a cameras resolution (and remember I'm doing this from memory so my numbers may be a little off) you need a testing chart, tripod, and fixed focus lens as well as a monitor (can't do this on a DVR). Aim camera at the line test. Move camera till testing chart fills the screen. Look at the lines and see where they blur together. That is your resolution. AGC should be off. Use a good lens (10 to 13 mm I think).

Not sure what card I got!

Yep, and when you get knock offs, expect to get what you pay for. -
True worst case plan: Thief cuts power. Waits two hours for APC to run down. Liberate anything without worries. The trick is to find a reasonable balance.
-
Or you could just buy a junk VCR/TV and feed the systems video out to it. Add a blank tape for spice. KISS.
-
I'll be honest, my home network's cabling is bad. If there was real voltage in those lines they would make the fire marshal cry bad.
-
Your other option is to grab it via directX if possible. But what exactly are you trying to do, we may be able to recommend something to do what you want.

Motherboard for Video Insight

If you go AMD we recomend NForce based boards. With Intel it's not as big a deal as long as you aren't looking at something extremely exotic. -
Thier cameras are very good. The DVR's the make I don't think are worth the price.
-
Run the signal through a splitter. Feed the Geovision machine and your app on seperate machines. Someone can suggest a low end card from which you can get an SDK and altar your app to get the input from the card.
-
I know we have some people who know those companies products really well and I was hoping they could post some tips on how to spot fake ones. We're getting a number of people who are buying cards off of E-Bay and it might be nice if we had a sticky that could help.
-
The problem from the ISP's end is that end users generally don't need it. And thier fear is P2P which is alot more common then DVR's. But there are some ISP's that might be helpful. Speakeasy is one I've heard good things about. They tend to be geek friendly.

Does the app require real time access to the video, or would viewing it after the fact work as well? Does the security system fall under the heading of "mission critical"?
-
How processor intensive is your background app?
-
We perfer a standard Windows interface and have found it to be easier to use. Support from us is much easier to get since we're based in the US. Are there features in particular you are looking for?
-
What kind of processing are you going to do?
