D-Link DCS-3220G Questions
Thomas replied to Mordimer's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Um right now the main version we're distrubuting has support for Axis cameras, both revisions of their firmware. We're adding two more cameras right now, one of which is D-Link's line of cameras and the company that OEM's the cameras for them. We can view and control the camera right now and the OEM company's camera we can record from. The D-Link is spitting out it's more raw data in an odd way. Right now the IP camera server can be intergrated into our web client and network client. -
Good that starts pointing me to the right direction.

Houston can go from a high of 110 to freezing (although not for long, last time it snowed the natives thought the world was ending).
-
It's going to be very slow for a while. There are a whole bunch of hyped networks for cells in the future but outside of japan it's gonna be a while before you start seeing broadband bandwith on a cell phone.
-
It's gonna vary by cell phone. The Treo's will be able handle most of it. The flip phones probley won't work with most of them.

Has anyone gotten an Everfocus EQ500 to work with 12 volt DC? It claims to be 12/24 and all I can get it to work with is 24 volt AC.

Rory, you may want to try this: Start -> Run -> cmd -> tracert google.com and look at the first few IP addresses. If you're seeing two 192.168.*.* or 172.*.*.* or 10.*.*.* addresses the modem may be acting as a router.

Anybody ever mount a pan/tilt/zoom camera on a house's roof?

You're expecting clear and logical thought out of a pot smoker. -
If my memory serves me you can.

I'm dealing with a client who has a problem with employees smoking pot in the back room of a convenace store. He wants to put in a PTZ just for the sheer terror factor of moving it around when they are back there. That's a use for PTZ's. -
In the course of my studies I had read about installing fiber optic, but I don't seem to hear of many installers using it. Is it as much a pain as it looks?

A 1.2 Ghz at 5 watts, is that going to be enough to cover about a quarter of a mile? They state 3000 to 4000 ft but I'm wondering how true that would be.
-
Yep, helped set it up for a customer. Use an RS-232 to 485/422 converter.

I'll see if I can get consent to load it onto the main server. But I can give you the real world benchmarks. XP Pro based systems: 40 user limit. It's a limitation within IIS rather then us. 2000/2003: Limit is based on the resources of the machine. But in a 2.8 P4, 512 mb of ram we can host 100+ people at a time.

The MSDE isn't an issue when it comes to scaling. We're only writing to it in bursts, and even if more then ten systems hit the MSDE at the same time, you're only looking at a half second delay in accessing the data. When the ten connection limit is hit then you get a random delay in the read/write. The random delay is between .01 to .5 seconds. It's not enough to cause us to hickup. We have two clients with 20+ systems networked together without an issue. And any truely massive install (100+) is going to have an IT infratructure. At that point you just load us into a real SQL server. There is a trade off in fluidity with the way we do it, but the plus side is that we work well in alot more browswers.

I'm sorry you didn't care for our demo. It's not that representive of what our DVR can do, nor is it ment to be. It's ment to show our web client off. As Rory pointed out, we handle everything on the server end, rather then making the client install something. If you want something more full featured then our network client can be used as well. BTW: That demo is our office, and the preset Tom on the ptz is me.

Three sets of wires. Some of the higher end cameras support coaxatrion (or what ever the company wants to call it) in which you send the control up the coax. It's a bit more then just the increase in voltage. AC acts differantly then DC. -

The one's I've seen have been 24v AC. And you need some sort of control wire to them. -

PTZ's are alot of fun. When we have people come into the office they all love to play with the PTZ's. -
Has the firewall been turned off since SP2 was installed?
-
What OS are you using? Is it XP SP2?

You'll pay much, much more then that. In the low four figures at least. -

PTZ's are great if you will be monitoring 24/7. If not then four cameras may be the better option.
