    Geovision login problem

A corrupted file will occur from power loss, but it's a software problem if a corrupted file does anything other then report being corrupted. Nor should it hang the program. Worse case should just be a corrupted file.

    Most users ever online was...

Script kiddies...not hackers. It's a subtle differance but an important one. A script kiddie gets a tool and uses it. He doesn't understand how it works, couldn't build it and couldn't do anything without it. A hacker understands why the tool does what it does and can probley build it. Among geeks being a hacker isn't always a negitive thing, one can be say a hardware hacker and make an Ipod run linux. Hacker: Someone who makes a system do something it wasn't ment to do, generally in a positive way. Script Kiddie: A punk and an insult.

    XP SP2

They did do alot of clean up but I still won't trust the windows firewall. They fixed the bug in which it started after you connected to the internet. Rory have you tried the extentions like flash-click to play or adblock? No popups and flash at will make the web a happy happy place.

    Light flicker question

Note: I didn't install the cameras, nor did we sell him the cameras. I have a customer that's having a pretty bad light flicker problem with his cameras. The lens is a manual iris, and the cameras are 12 volt DC. He doesn't know the make of the cameras. Our software can block out some areas for recording but the light flicker annoyed him with the time lapse and it's annoying him now.

I found out the type of cameras and they are the ones that EZwatch pro sells.

    PTZ Dome troubleshooting

Camera baud rate set right? Address correct?
  12. The pictures are cut and paste, but they are cut and paste from actual clips. Why they did that is beyond me but I can verifiy that I recoginze all but three of the cameras they are showing. The live demo is an actual live demo of our office. Not sure what you mean by the satelite type map?

    How to do this?

We have a web server as part of our application, and a web client. We also have a network client for viewing video over a LAN. But at the lowest layer we have a server application that is doing the encoding of the analogue system. Most of our cards support 16 cameras but our new 240 fps card can have a daughter card added to support up to 32 cameras.
  14. You are the one party of consent.
  15. As I understand the law for recording (in the jusidiction of Texas) Texas is a one party consent state and as long as you don't record phone converstations then you won't run afoul of wiretap laws.
  16. ktp24C Hey Rory, what is the best way to wire this power supply?
  17. Unless you do some funky RAID your drive size is either 250 or 400 GB. There isn't anything inbetween. Given the cost of a 400 GB drive and you probley won't be seeing it on a dvr anytime soon. (Except maybe some of the PC based ones...)

    Power Supply

It has three wires and it looks like it's ment to be wired to a mains power supply but the user needs it into a 110v plug, can that be spliced safely?

Need help to choose a camera

I'll post the model number for that Sony but it compared nicely to the Pelco I have next to it. The only strange thing is that it doesn't have the screw in terminals on the back but the connection for the wall socket.
  20. One thing to remember is that software firewalls have to be configured like you would a hardware firewall. http://sourceforge.net/projects/sentry/ And that's the best free firewall.
  21. Do you have the camera on a metal mount, on a metal bracket attached to metal?

Need help to choose a camera

I've had one on my desk to play with. It looked pretty comparable to other cameras I've seen in the price range but the one thing I noticed that stood out was a lack of "blueing" (no idea what the techincal term is but it's the blue light effect around bright light sources.).

    Generating an articifical ground loop

The joy of being tech support, sometimes I have I break things to prove the existance of something. In this case I'm testing a ground loop box that's supposed to elimanate the problem.
  24. Hi, I have what may be an odd question...but how would you make a ground loop for the purpose of testing a ground loop elimanator?

    Generating an articifical ground loop

Right now the loose plan is to take the camera plus mounting and mount it to a metal rack, then ground the rack into metal grid above us in the ceiling. Then plug the power into the wall. Do I have to use 24v AC to make a ground loop or will DC work?
