Thanks, I'll talk to him tomarrow and see if that helps.

The client wasn't sure, they predate him in the position. I wish I could tell you it would probley make this alot easier. The light is definitly coming from the light blubs (the kind begining with F that I won't attempt to spell.)

I haven't found any but this forum has been growing quite a bit lately.

I have three states negitive states of being: Cranky: You can hear my fustration. There may be hair in my fist. Angry: I'm speaking very softly but the words comming out of my mouth are not soft words. Caffeine withdrawl: I am no longer legally liable for my actions under the temporay insanity defense.

I apologise I wasn't intending to run you off. The easist place to get the Silica gel packets is oddly enough a shoe store. They are the little crystal packets that are in the shoes. Alot of the camera's I've seen come with them but the others here can answer that better then I can.

My wife's blue eyes reflect quite well, thank you.

Sorry, I tend to get cranky doing Tech Support on the weekends.

Generally they make me whimper. Mostly for the CSI "we'll take a digital image and see the name of a boat off of the reflection off of a woman's eye which we're seeing in the reflection of some chrome". God I wish I was kidding about that scene.

Not nesscarily true. If the air inside is at 0% humidity that's not a problem. Or it could be a vacum, or nitrogen based atmosphere.
-
I'm not refering to rain. Rain is not part of this discussion. I am refering to humidity. That would be water that is evaporated into the air. It's pretty easy for humid air to get in, and when it gets in something it tends to have an effect. You can put a camera under what ever you like but that isn't going to make humidity go away.

Alright: Flexible PTZ support. Should be simple to add protocols. Internal Security able to be turned on, any change requires a username/password. Built in UPS. Points of failure should be field replacable by a tech. (Hard drives, power supply, mainboard, ect.) Bluetooth support USB PnP Compliant for use of thumb drives All ports changable. A non ugly UI. (Okay a pet peeve of mine, why is it that just about every interface in this industry is going for the "Worst Interface Ever" award?) A Mux out port for tape backup.

The weatherproof cameras will have things like heaters to help prevent the condensation from forming frost. They will have better water tight seals to prevent moist air from getting in. Rain is not the only way that moisture can get into an area. Humidity during the warmer months will get into the camera unless you have an air tight seal. And my referance wasn't to the interior of a car. It was to the frost that can form on the exterior of a window.

Network Aware Able to use Network Storage

You need an RS-232 to 485/422 converter box. I would assume Geovision supports PTZ movement so it would be a matter of setting it up in the software.

Condensation from the air. I grew up in a cold climate and without a weatherproof dome you'll get the same effect you get on the car windshield.

Most of the hardware in the comsumer grade routers are the same. It's the firmware that makes a bigger differance. Most people find Linksys to be easier to set up and I've found them more helpful with tech support. YMMV.

The most power you put into a transmission, the more likely you are to bleed into other parts of the specturm. The Ham bands aren't too far away from the wi-fi bands. The Ham's are licenced to use thier space, you aren't. They will get vocal, and they may just jam your signal for interfearing with theirs. Also when you put out more power you're more likely to jam portable phones, wireless camera links, and just about any cheap wireless device. At that point you will be in violation of FCC regs.

What happens to trapped mosture when it freezes?
-
Yep, it's a packet with the account name and host it goes to. Then they read the header to see where the packet is from.
-
One last thing to note is that no-ip.com has a pretty open API for using intergrating thier service into software you write.
-
Also be aware that in the US, adding higher gain anntennas may be illegal, depending on the amount you add. If you start interfearing with other signals such as phones or ham radios (and they will complain, vocally) then you're in violation of FCC regs.

There is a gentleman who set up a website to let people target shoot over the web. But for what you want, probley not going to be feasible for the purpose of shooting a target. 1 Mbit would be enough upstream bandwith, but the latancy is going to be what kills you. It will also be out of your control. You can't control thier latancy.
-
DHCP isn't a no-ip.com service. All it means is the system can be assigned an IP address from a server rather then having one hard coded.

Need true 'real-time' video, audio, and PTZ over internet
Thomas replied to eganson's topic in System Design
Bandwith is good. Latancy is better. If your latancy is high then you can have all of the bandwith in the world and it will still be slow. The only way to make sure you get low latancy is a direct fiber connection. The question is this: What is your budget? And what is the application you're doing? -
One of the hardest things to get used to at work, being on camera all of the time.
