Not real crazy about how the pictures flip back and forth between name of manf. and picture of product. Very distracting.

Does anybody have recommendations for a portable DVR? Not a mobile dvr like one would put into a cab or cop car. One that could be carried by hand and and then set up quickly in an office or other place where there is a power supply?

Wow, thanks! You all are awesome. I'll dig throught this stuff and see what will work best. Thanks again!

Questions to ask when quoting a CCTV system
Zyra Tech replied to rory's topic in General Digital Discussion
Rory, Don't know if it is what you are looking for or not but I have a spreadsheet with a LOT of live cameras that are out there and what type of system/cameras they are using. Let me know if it will help you out. -
Do these have an affect on video quality? If so, which ones do you recommend for the least impact?

Why does everyone seem to like GeoVision?
Zyra Tech replied to avpe's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
In my opinion you can have the best product in the world but if you ** it out to anybody and their dog there's not much value in it at that point. Just type in DVR demo into google and see the tons and tons of Geovision demos out there. For a company that wants to make money, I believe you need a great product that distinguishes you from the "masses". Geovision is planted firmly in the "masses" category. I know all the debates about vendor/distributor relations and all that, but the marketing practices and distribution of Geo is lame and makes the product basically worthless to me. Not sure if I am getting my point across. -
What the crap? I put this card into a non-dedicated computer that I had at my office to play with v6.0 I'm getting "can't find key pro" and "card setup fail" I removed anything and everything that is geo related and I'm still getting those errors. What gives?

Version 6.0.4 - PC restarts randomly.

When you get a version of Geo software that works, never, ever, ever, use a newer version! -
What's your impression?
-
I actually found that on a google search. Actually it was about the only reference to the problem I could find. Followed it to the letter and it still doesn't work. The crazy thing is the card was working fine under that version and then all of a sudden I went to open the sofware up and got the error. I've already wasted too much time trying to get it up and running. It's a painful reminder of why I gave up on Geovision.

Alright, money isn't the deciding factor. What is the best computer based system out there that fits the following criteria? 1. Picture quality both local and remote 2. stability 3. remote functionality (ie. being able to easily view log files, etc. from a remote local. I need a system that has a good remote interface (can be downloadable client software, ie not web based) so I don't need a monitor, mouse or keyboard for the dedicated dvr server once set up and running. I want the client to have full accessibility from a computer on the LAN. Probably the thing that is most important is video quality. Both in live view, recorded images, and remote view. I am getting frustrated with the products I have been using in this regard. Picture quality sucks. I have clients that have the money to spend on the systems. I just can't find one that I feel good selling them. I really appreciate any feedback on this. -

How can an Mpeg2 card stack up against an Mpeg4 card local? -
I'm interested. Could you PM me a price on one of those? That may be just the ticket.

12 I'm looking at a Phillips unit right now. PB-NETSVR6 I'll have to use two. What's a decent "el cheapo" DVR and about what do they cost?

That would be great. You can PM me with any details. Even if it's only for ten minutes or so.
