I have to ask, why do almost all the Geovision demos end up showing about half the control buttons as the dreaded red "X"? It's annoying.

Is there a demo of that product that doesn't have the compression cranked up? -
I know Geo doesn't make their cards. I just meant you will probably find that they both come from the same manufacturer.

As of last week the Mpeg4 cards were not for sale. They said they weren't ready or something like that. I couldn't even get pricing. I respect that though. The one I'm really having problems with is using a KVM switch. I wonder if that could be the problem. I started a thread about it. I really hope to get to the bottom of this as Vendoma has been a wonderful company to deal with and thier product works great for the configurations we specify. -
From what I can tell you might find a link between Geo and avermedia. Having used both, there's some striking similarities.

The sad thing is I've got a pretty in depth computer background and knew more than the guy I was talking to who was suppossed to be helping me!

I bought the 8-cam card through 123cctv just to check it out. By the way, that company sucks big time. The system had great video quality but the internet portion was very finicky. Couldn't get three of the four cams to show up remotely over the internet. When I hit the "next" button the system would crash. I talked with tech support at 123cctv and they acted like I was an idiot and were totally rude. I may be an idiot, but don't make me feel that way!

i dont have office open, nor on start up. must use a codec that uses alot of memory. Not a good sign, as not every user will have winxp with 512ddr. im 128ddr right now, 16mb video memory. Not impressed with the demo system at all. Looks very lacking. As far as the software not intalling correctly, that's pretty much a nail in the coffin for me. Everything has to be fluid in the installation from start to finish. Something small like that can kill our installation schedule. I need to be able to have my people go in after the cams are installed and aimed and drop in the server, configure it, and train the client in a short ammount of time. I've found that any problems that come up usually turn a short installation into a full day nightmare.

Good call, but we start with Win XP pro and remove everything we can. We really strip it down. Everything we do is a stand alone computer. There are no other programs running on the system and the end user does not have access to the system. One of the things I really like about Vendomas system is we don't have to have a monitor, keyboard, or mouse at the server once we set it up because the user has the same gui at their desktop. Really slick. We try to bury the server as much out of the way as we can in the computer closet. -

Yup, I run the cameras directly into a cctv monitor to focus and aim the cameras. Neverending, on one of the systems the card is installed in a Dell dimension 3 Ghz desktop. Should that have issues? I'm using on board video for the most part. -

I've made sure everything is up to spec. So far, no luck. Any other suggestions? -

It's not a matter of security, it's a matter of the program won't even install!

Considering the deal that real estate is in Arizona right now, you are probably comparing apples to apples in both pricing ranges. tons of people are selling their basic homes in california and moving to arizona and buying huge homes because real estate and building is so cheap here right now. You can get a lot of home for the buck. -
Central Station Video Monitoring
Zyra Tech replied to rory's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I do traditional security systems as well. Usually I am doing both the normal security system monitoring and then add CCTV monitoring on top. I usually charge between $20-$25 for the normal security monitoring and then add another $20 for cctv monitoring. I don't have anybody that just does cctv monitoring so probably not the best example for you. -
If you want to run fiber, the main problem seems to be termination. I use a product made by Corning. it's called cam lock or something like that. It uses premade ends. I do all my own fiber intalls now. It seriously takes less than five minutes to do a termination and it's perfect everytime. I get asked to do fiber installs all the time now.

System Specs/dedicated pc or shared?
Zyra Tech replied to clivem's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The only exception would be if it was his personal system and he understands having a combined system can and will affect system performance somewhat. We always use a dedicated computer that we supply. We don't even allow clients to use an exisiting computer that they have anymore. -

I keep hearing how the local video on Vendoma is second to none. Please show me what I'm doing wrong because I just don't see it.
