  1. I'm not sure if I'm reading it right, but what is powering your cameras? If the NVR provides the poe power for the cameras, the power will not go through the powerline adapter, only the data will go through. You will need a poe power source between the camera and the powerline adapter.
  2. Blueiris is good for many different cameras. It is about 60 bucks but has a free trial version.

    Dahua firmware

You can try here for USA models. http://www.dahuawiki.com/USA/IPCamera/ If you don't see yours, it may be a Chinese model with the firmware hacked to English.

    Wireless cameras & Ispy

Milestone xprotect essential is free for up to 8 cameras.
  5. None of the above. They are all low quality and you will not be happy. And don't go wireless either, they will let you down when it counts the most. You would be better off with something like this, if you live in the US. https://www.costco.com/Q-See-8-Channel-HD-IP-NVR-with-2TB-HDD%2c-6-3MP-Camera-with-100'-Night-Vision.product.100283276.html Go ip and not analog if you can.
  6. With wifi cameras, one may be ok, but the more you add, the more they become unreliable. They may/will have interference with other wireless devices and networks, not to mention things like microwave ovens. Go ip/network cameras with power over ethernet (POE). Wireless cameras are uncool.

    IP camera viewer

Try Blue Iris, it has a trial version.
  8. Old but valid link for about smoked domes. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=41582 With those cheap, no name ptz's, the software is often glitchy and will aggravate the heck out of you. Much the same for the hardware too. Auto tracking seems wonderful, but it too will aggravate you. Following trees swaying in the wind, or following the wrong target. Right now Dahua is the latest rage for affordable PTZ's. Remember too that buying from aliexp, amazon etc will probably give you no warranty.
  9. In my opinion Dahua is the best for the money.
  10. johnny, after configuring the camera wired, did you reboot/restart the camera? Wireless won't work until you do. Also check to make sure the camera supports your router encryption. I have a different model Panasonic that only supports wep.
  11. I believe a member named PeteCress had an ocean view camera set up Not sure what camera was used though. A member search should find him.
  12. I can help a little with some quick answers. 1. do a google search for ip camera lens calculator 2. You will need to look at the temperature specs when picking a camera. 3. Many cameras have built in IR lighting for night vision. Again, look at specs. 4. With poe you will need to put a poe switch/power supply between the powerline adapter and the camera to power the camera. There are a few powerline adapters with poe but probably expensive. You will still need to run a wirefor poe to the camera. 5. Some cameras come with a built in microphone for listening, but usually you will need to add a separate speaker to speak. 6&7. Blue iris is great and highly configurable and works with many cameras. It also has a smartphone app sold separately. 8. Most cameras and BI have motion detection and email alerts. Email alerts may drive you crazy though. 9. Bullet cameras with IR lighting seem to attract lots of bugs. Dome cameras often have ir bleed problems causing a foggy look at night. Your best bet would be a turret/eyeball type camera for outside. New Amcrest cameras are rebranded Dahua cameras, very good cameras for the price. You can find good prices on Dahua cameras at sites like ebay/ali express but may not get much of a warranty. There are good prices on Hikvision cameras too with the same warning. Chinese market marked as USA cameras usually have hacked firmware by the seller. Do not do firmware updates. I hope that helps, not complete and you will need to do some homework.
  13. Setting up a sign outside would probably deter them (hopefully). If they were determined to get in, and it was a maintenance person with keys, the could/would steal camera or computer. You can get cameras that record to computer or sd card or both. If it were me, and I thought it was maintenance people, I would not use a sign and go with hidden/pinhole ip cameras. A google search for pinhole ip camera will bring results. Axis, Acti, Dahua, Hikvision are some of the good names I saw on a quick search. You can try a cheaper off brand, but remember, you get what you pay for.

    alternatives for external viewing

When configuring your phone app make sure you are viewing the sub stream, not the main stream. That may speed things up. Also take a look at tinyCam pro for your phone. The developer will actually give you personal support if needed.
  15. Link works for me. But here is part of the article... All combined, the burglars got away with about $9,000 worth of cell phones, iPads, watches and other valuables, reports said. Each of the homes had electronic keypad lock systems on the front doors. None of the homes had signs of forced entry. "It appears the first male used some type of tool, possibly electronic, to bypass the keypad on the front door," Officer John McKinney wrote in his report.
  16. Probably not... but it should work. Some construction adhesives are very thick and won't run. I'm just tossing out an idea is all. Some of the posters here might tell you for a pro install, hire one. Good luck.
  17. How about glue/construction adhesive on back of 2x4?
  18. Interesting article on electronic door locks and possible weakness. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/coconut-creek/fl-coconut-creek-burglar-trio-20161116-story.html
  19. The best place for firmware is from where you bought the camera. Mine is a DH-SD22204T-GN and was giving me some minor problems. After doing the resets from the web browser and smart PSS without any luck, taking the dome off and holding the reset button fixed things.

    Home system

If you live in the US or Canada check out Costco, excellent return policy. Try a forum search here for "costco".

    DAHUA SD59430U-HNI

I have a different model Dahua ptz, but if the encode method isn't h264, it loses some ivs features.
  22. If you live in the US, I would recommend buying an ip system from costco. They are good systems with a good return policy. Do a forum search for "costco" to start your homework.
  23. It would help to list the brand and model number.
  24. Will these cameras all be of the same brand? Or will you use several different brands of cameras? Or do you mean you are searching for a complete system?

    One camera Installation Choice

+1 on the ptz idea, but I don't believe that the DS-2CD2F52F-IS is a ptz camera. Also, the claimed ir distance is 10 m, and in reality is probably a lot less. The add is somewhat deceiving/confusing. I would look for something like the Dahua SD22204T-GN, a 4x ptz but with no ir. It is quality and affordable. When you buy from China/e bay etc you may not have much of a warranty, and may cost a lot to send back for any problems. Another thing, make sure your mounting pole is sturdy with no flexing/swaying. Even a little sway will set off motion detect or drive you crazy while viewing.
