Help a noob build a system

Hey everyone, I've been looking around for a surveillance system for a project I'm working on and I thought that I might ask the pros what would work best for me. First of all, I don't actually need any surveillance, I'm building a poker table which is going to have built in cameras to see people's cards. I need 10 cameras to see players cards, 2 cameras to record the players (probably mounted in the middle of the table) and probably a DVR to record all of the video for editting afterwards. I've found a lot of 8 circuit cameras systems including the DVR and software for around $699, but since I actually need 12 cameras, 2 of which are not the same as the other 10, I need to go with a 16 circuit system which costs roughly double. Do I have any options to build my own system to accommodate the 10+2 cameras? Or am I stuck with buying a 16 camera system for the sake of simplicity? The 10 cameras used to see players' cards also need to be able to focus on close objects, as well as probably low light situations. Would standard cameras in the prebuilt systems work alright for my application? Thanks for any help in advance.
