Geovision about to release version 6.1
LittleScoobyMaster replied to cctv_down_under's topic in Geovision
This is what one of the Geovision reps gave me as a list for 6.1 but it could be innacurate: "I'm listing the new features for our V6.1 software as below for your reference." E-map for easy practical plan design PTZ auto tracking moving objects Object index of motion detection files Disabled Ctrl-Alt-Del Vital Sign Monitor for immediate system status report Object Monitor ( Suspicious object / Lost object) IR remote controller SMS message notice Touch screen panel useable Does this match what you have listed, or is it way off base? Or, does the current version alreay include the above feature set? -
Anyone know when will the new Chance-I hardware compression cards be out?
-
This reminds me of a question I have. Is the GV600v3-8 and the GV600v3-16 the same exact card except for the 1 chip that reads '8 port' which looks like a socket style chip? Would it be possible to upgrade the GV600v3 just by replacing the 8 port chip with a 16 port chip? If so, can the port chips be purchased separately? Just curious. I don't plan on doing that because a 16 port GV600 will be too slow for my future needs.

Geovision about to release version 6.1
LittleScoobyMaster replied to cctv_down_under's topic in Geovision
Do you have to wait until the beta is out to post the new features in 6.1 that you know of? I'm kinda curious as to what they are. I recently picked up a GV600v3-8 so I can decide if I someday want to upgrade my home surveillance server and then go with a GV900 to put in it. I don't want to fork over all that cash for a new server and a $1000 card until I'm sure I like the software that the thing uses. So far I am pretty impressed with Geovision's software but the 1024x768 limitation for some of the panels is a pain, but regardless, it makes my old Osprey 100 system look like a toy. Normally I don't like software to be so granular but with surveillance software it can be a good thing. -
Holy Elmo! That Elmo looks like a nice little unit. Has anyone here used it? Not a bad price either. Is that the lowest price PTZ of its kind ($799)? That would make a nice fun cam. 22x optical zoom isn't bad at all. I could have alot of fun with that cam.

I was just wondering if anyone has tested this combo yet since the MPx200 is the best smartphone in the world so far. -
Holy Osprey 100 craziness
LittleScoobyMaster posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I am curious as to whether or not any other users on this forum are currently using or have used the Osprey 100 for surveillance systems. I also am wondering what the major benefits (excluding great software) that a GV-250 has over an Osprey 100? http://www.viewcast.com/products/osprey/osprey100.html http://www.geovision.com.tw/002/en/product-gv250.asp The Osprey 100 is priced lower and gets 30 FPS per second instead of only 20 on the GV-250. Is the great software the only reason the GV-250 hardware blows away the Osprey 100, or are there other factors? Both cards look like they have only 1 BT878 chip. With the Osprey 100 you can hook 4 cameras up to the card, but you have to switch between the 4 different cameras and you can't have all 4 cameras displayed at once (unless you use some junky software that I have seen that simulates 4 simutaneus cameras by quickly switching between the 4 cameras). Now, since it looks like the GV-250 has only 1 BT878, does it do the same type of software trick to allow you to monitor 4 cameras simutaneously? Or what am I missing here? I always thought you needed 1 BT878 chip for 1 nice 30 FPS video stream to be seen. This is why I originally setup my system with 4 Osprey 100's. I figured with 4 cards in 1 system I would get close to the 30 FPS on 4 cameras being displayed simutaneously. In real world though, this became only about 12 to 15 fps per cam. In hindsight, I probably should have just went with a GV-600 at the time but I wasn't aware of Geo's software back then. So, which card would my 4 Osprey 100 system most resemble? A single GV-250 or GV600, or GV800 (in terms of hardware speed - if both setups were using the same software)? -
Geovision and Via Chipset and free doughtnuts for all.
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in Geovision
Thanks. I'm familiar with the HINT chip and understand that it is the reason that the GV cards have a problem with the Via chipset but I can't understand why Geo doesn't remove the reference stating that the GV-250 is currently not compatible with the VIA chipset? I'm left to assume this just falls under DVR_Experts Geo bad marketing issues but I wanted to confirm. I wasn't aware that it was just Via on the south bridge that caused the issue though. That's good to know. I thought it was a problem with Via on either bridge. I used to always switch between Abit and ASUS motherboards myself but I find myself coming back to ASUS more often. My current surveillance system is using an Abit KG7 Lite. Not a bad little unit but I think it's time for an upgrade. -

"this will give you a mainboard model and then check with the manufactorer.. GV250 and GV600 will work with a Via the rest wont, I would say if it is AMD it would be VIA but it may be SIS Chipset" Why doesn't Geovision update their site so users know that these 2 boards will work just fine with the Via Chipset? Or are there still issues with the Via chipset that are just workaroundable or something? If I pop a GV600 into my AMD via chipset motherboard, will I run into ANY issues, or will it run just as smooth as it would on a similar Intel MB? Did Geo just not update their site because of their bad marketing that you mention on occasion? Just curious. I would think they would remove the references to GV250/600 models so they could sell more units but who knows. http://www.geovision.com.tw/002/en/product-gv600.asp Part of me wants to build a whole new system from scratch but I also want to see what Geovision can do compared to my Osprey 100 setup which is very limited on the software side. I sure wish I could just test out the Geovision software on my 4 card Osprey 100 system but it doesn't sound like I will ever be able to. Damn the luck. -

Just curious as to when the new Chance-I cards are going to be released? Do you have a hyperlink? Will the new cards use the same exact software as the old ones or are they going to release new software with the new cards? Also, when is Geovision going to be releasing something new? Or did the GV900/1000 just get released sometime in the past year or so? -

I'm not sure what you mean by control room? Do you mean PTZ capability? I do own a Motorola MPx200 smart phone though and would like a feature similar to this one which currently works on my lame Osprey 100 boards: http://www.fgeng.com/smartphone.htm I would hope all software (Geo, Chance-I, etc.) would have PDA/smartphone capability built in but I haven't checked yet. -

So I'm trying to upgrade my home surveillance system and I keep seeing this Divis/Chance-I card: http://www.cctvheadquarters.com/livvcc.htm Would the card above (DiViS-LIV16) at only $700 compare to the Geovision VCC-GV1000-16 which costs $1,400? http://www.turbocctv.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TC&Category_Code=VCC Or is the Geovsion card that much better that it is really worth the extra $700? Or doesn't the DiViS-LIV16 come with any software, or is the Divis software so inferior to the Geovision software that it makes the prices of the boards irrellevent? The thing I like about the Divis-Live16 is that it has a newer chipset. I've been messing around with the BT848/878 chipset for so long now that it just seems time a new and better chipset should be on the market by now. Hell, my old WinTv boards from almost a decade ago had the BT848/878 chipsets. I even had an old US Robotics camera from 1994 or 1995 that used the same chipset (it even came with the first DVR software I had ever seen called Digital Radar by Connectix). Why won't the BT878 ever die? It's like a ****roach or something. I mean hell, look at the 3d video card industry. A new chip comes out every six months with tons of new features, but the BT878 appears to be exactly the same as a decade ago. I must be missing something because this just can't be the case. I don't even remember the order of which came out first. Maybe it was the 848, then a follow-up by the 878, all I know is that I've been waiting for a newer chipset to arrive but it never does. Oh well. Anyway, back to my original question, is the GV1000 really that much better than the Liv16? The specs look very similar to me. If it comes down to software, since this is for a home system, wouldn't I be better off trying to save the extra $700 by going with the Liv16? -

Are the lack of features ones that could be added in future software releases, or are these hardware features whereas the Chance-I hardware just can not do what the Geovision cards can do? Has Chance-I updated their software since you have done your testing or are they still on the same version as they were when you tested them? -

Why does it cost so much less than the GV1000-16? $700 compared to $1400 is a HUGE jump in price for 2 boards that look very similar to me. Both spec at 30 FPS per 16 video channels but the GV1000 is twice the price. Is the GV1000-16 just way overpriced or something? If you had to choose between the $700 Chance-I/Div16 and the $1400 GV1000-16 for a home system, which would you choose and why? Thanks -
I have some questions about a system I want to build around a GV900-16 and I was hoping I could get some real world FPS numbers. The Motherboard would be an ASUS P4C800 Deluxe with an Intel P4 3.0 Gig Processor/800Mhz FSB, 2 Western Digital 80 Gig 10,000 RPM Sata Raptors. 1 Gig of DDR400 memory. Video Card would be an ATi card, next one down from the 9800XT. This would be on a Gigabit network. I want to start out with 8 cameras with room to expand. Here are a few of the questions I could use real world numbers for (following would be in 320x240): 1. If all 8 cameras are on in view mode only, what is the average FPS I could expect per camera while viewing the server monitor? (For 8 cams this card should be able to do 30 FPS per cam according to the specs) but I know it must be way lower than that for real world speed. 2. Same as question 1 but this time through a remote client hooked up on the gigabit LAN using the Remote Client Viewer software. 3. Same as question 1 but this time through the remote Web client viewer. 4. All questions 1 through 3 but this time with Capturing turned on trying to Capture at the fastest speed this card/system can handle while allowing realtime viewing of all 8 cameras. 5. Would the 18 to 35 Percent decrease in performance apply if the resolution was bumped up to 640x480 for all cams? Thanks for any numbers you might be able to provide.

That's a bummer. I can't understand why Geovision doesn't license out their software to use on non-Geo hardware? Is it because they wouldn't be able to control all the crazy configurations that might be introduced from various card manufacturers in which case they couldn't guarantee stability of the product, etc.? If the software is that great, they should expand it to run on other DVR cards, which gets back to my other question. If I had a dongle crack, would Geovision work with other BT848 or BT878 chipset cards? Just curious. Or would it be super unstable or not work at all?
-
Just curious. Why is GEO considered to not be legit? (I'm guessing you are joking, but just in case, I had to ask). If you aren't joking, and GEO is truly non-legit, does anyone know where I could d/l a dongle crack for Geovision so I can run the software on my Osprey 100 BT848 chipset setup as the main thing I don't like about my current setup is the lame software I have to use for it. I'm also curious as to what non Geovision users are using for their surveillance systems? I mean, Geovision doesn't make all the cards on the market so there must be some other application that compares to Geovision, I would hope. I have used both Gotcha MultiCam and I-Catcher Console but both are very limited. There has to be something better.

Holy Moly Surveillance Upgrade
LittleScoobyMaster posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I recently watched a Geovision demo (the 2 Japan sites) and I have been thinking about upgrading my home surveillance system ever since and I have a billion questions. My current dedicated DVR system may seem a bit funny to some of you so don’t laugh too hard, but here it is: Motherboard: Abit KG7 with AMD Athlon XP2000 (1.6 GHz processor) 768MB RAM (Via chipset so I probably can’t just upgrade to a GV800 without issues) WD400BB 40 Gig 7200 RPM HD 4 Osprey 100 DVR Cards http://www.viewcast.com/products/osprey/osprey100.html OS: Windows 2000 Server with SP4 installed. Software: Gotcha MultiCam http://www.gotchanow.com/text/multicam.html Note: I put together this system quite a while ago before I realized how much better Geovision cards seem to be. I also started it from 1 Osprey up to 4 (upgraded every month or 2 when I wanted additional cams added). The small HD works for me because I review/delete footage daily. This system could theoretically handle 16 cameras but only 4 simultaneously, so I never grew past 4 cameras which Gotcha Multicam can handle. One of the things I’ve always hated about my current system is that the Gotcha Multicam software is limited in several ways and I have yet to find a decent replacement for it. Here are some of the current limitations of Gotcha Multicam: 1. No good way to view or manage the live camera streams on a remote system connected to my LAN. (Currently the only way to do this is to remotely control the server with tools such as VNC, PCAnywhere, etc.) which is quite a clunky workaround to say the least. 2. No ability to make the camera masks transparent. 3. Software is limited to 4 cameras. 4. Video files often become corrupt due to bugs in the software. 5. FPS seems low (8 to 14 fps per cam) but this could be a hardware limitation especially since I am not using any compression (I’ve always preferred the best looking quality frames – I don’t like compression anomalies). 6. Blown away by Geovision remote software demo. I still can’t get over how slick it seems to be. I like how you can just click on 1 cam and make it instantly become full screen, etc. So, this being my current system, does anyone know if this system would run with the Geovision software instead of Gotcha Multicam? If so, I could maybe just do a software upgrade and be done? I would guess that the Geovision software would require Geovision hardware? Has anyone run Geovision software on any non Geovision hardware with good results? I have recently tried out a newer piece of software that Osprey is now recommending called I-catcher Console. http://www.icode.co.uk/icatcher/products/console.html I like what it can do a lot, especially the remote monitoring of live video streams, etc. The only problem with I-catcher is that the FPS I get per cam is reduced to much lower than the 8 to 14 I get with Gotcha Multicam, plus I-Catcher tags the CPU utilization to 100 Percent whereas Gotcha leaves it at about 35 Percent. See, I want to be able to have a system that can view live streams from a remote system on my LAN while the server also records any movement that it detects at near 25 to 30 FPS. Maybe it's just not possible yet (or does it mean a GV900/1000 is required to achieve?) I guess what I want is a real professional surveillance system. It would grow to 8 cams if I end up putting together a Geovision DVR server but I want to make sure that I don’t just need a software upgrade on my current system because a nice GV800/900 system would be very spendy and I could live with only 4 cams for awhile longer. (I’d have to go with a new P4 3.0 Ghz machine with a WD740 Raptor (10k RPM drive), etc., etc. Anyway, let me know what you think about my upgrade options. Thanks. BTW, I'm glad to have finally found a great surveillance forum. I can hardly wait to start talking about things like ExtremeCCTV's UF100 and UF500 units (I hope to someday own a UF100 - I dream about the UF500 on a nightly basis but will never be able to afford one unless they flood the market and come down in price which could maybe happen in these crazy days of terrorist activity, etc.) Who knows. Live the dream: UF500 http://www.cctvvideo.com/ufserlonlifi.html -
I'm not too sure about embedded DVR's but since they have quite a few PC components installed, maybe that 2 beep upon bootup is a standard motherboard code trying to tell you what's wrong with the system? Can you hook a monitor up to one of those units somehow like you can with a PC motherboard? Just curious. BIOS boot codes for PC motherboards are similar to the following (maybe your unit has a similar beep code): AWARD BIOS Beep Sound Message 1 short(Beep) System booting is normally. 2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error 1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR 1 long - 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error 1 long - 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error 1 long - 9 short(Beep) ROM Error Long(Beep) continuous DRAM hasn't inset correctly. Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has problem. AMI BIOS 1 short(Beep) DRAM Flash Error 2 short(Beep) DRAM ECC Check Error 3 short(Beep) DRAM Detect Fail 5 short(Beep) CPU Error 6 short(Beep) Keyboard Error 8 short(Beep) Display card memory Error 9 short(Beep) ROM Error 1 long - 3 short(Beep) DRAM Damage 1 long - 8 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error

All I can say is WOW!!! The forbidden UF500. I've been dreaming of owning one for quite some time now. I am nervous just having a conversation with someone who has actually used/installed one. UF500, the CCTV persons infra red Ferrari! There is no substitute. I currently own 2 measely Lorex VQ-2120's that I hope to set up some day soon. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/hypaudio/vq2120.html I wanted the Derwent UF100 but I skimped on price at the time and ordered the VQ pair instead. Truthfully I haven't even set them up yet and they have been sitting for months. I still haven't thought of a good way to waterproof them yet or wanted to do anything outside until just recently when the weather became nicer. Those UF500 photos are fantastic! Do you have other examples of them in use (besides the Derwent/Extreme CCTV examples)? If so, you should post them, or was that the only job that you have installed them at so far? Just curious. Do those suckers greatly affect the users Energy bill, or are they barely noticable on the monthly bill? I wonder how long it will be until the US adds as many UF500's as the UK? The power supplies on the UF500 scares me for some reason. Maybe it's just the price. I dunno. I still want one though. Some day, it will be mine. Yes, some day... Before you did the pool job, did you get to test it out at your home? Or is that your home? I'm still unclear about that. If I wanted one, would it be possible to get one for alot less than this? http://www.cctvvideo.com/ufserlonlifi.html Or is it pretty close to bottom pricing? $178 just for the power supply. Man that must be one nice power supply. Does the power supply at least humm or sing a song for that price? Just curious. Also, it looks like Videolarm now has a set of IR illuminators in the same price range as the UF500. Do you know if they are any good? http://www.spytown.com/search--by-part-number-videolarm--illuminators.html

What is the reason for not buying from websites that list the prices on their sites? Are they price gouging or something? With every PC component I've ever purchased, I always like to know the lowest prices I can get (I use Pricewatch and Pricegrabber sites quite frequently), but if I have to email each company with a price quote request, that just seems like alot of extra time spent. I am just curious as to why it is different with specialized DVR equipment than with other PC components and what is the downside of ordering from sites that post prices? Thanks.

"this is supposed to prevent people from using Geo software on other boards, silly buggers though, its not hard to get a rom reader and flash the rom so you can change models," By any chance, by "other boards", do you mean any other BT878 boards, such as Hauppauge WinTv cards and other similar single chip cards? http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support_pci_boards.html Or do you mean higher end multi-chipped BT878 cards? I guess what I really need to know is if Geovision can be made to run on BT878 WinTV or Osprey 100 BT848 chipset boards?

Holy Moly Surveillance Upgrade
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
That's kind of what I figured but wasn't sure if it would just not work entirely because of the HINT chip, or if it could work with some side-effects or other issues. http://www.surveillance-spy-cameras.com/geovision-specs.htm How about running Geovision software on non Geovision hardware such as the Osprey 100? Do you know if that is possible or not? The Osprey has the BT848 chipset which is very similar to the GV800 BT878 chipset and according to the Osprey user manual: Compatibility The driver is designed to be compatible with all Video for Windows applications. The Osprey-100 package supports all Video for Windows capture driver capabilities that are available to the Bt878 hardware device. It is compatible with software video compressors, sound boards, video editing applications, and videoconferencingapplications. I haven't read too much about the Geovision software yet, I just really like the demo. Also, is Geovision the best surveillance software one can use, or are there others that compare or surpass it?
